So of course today people will say the eye is illuminati or free masonry but to my understanding it used to be known as the eye of God and was a good symbol.

I'm Getting a tattoo (which i feel no moral convictions about and have prayed about it and feel that in my freedom in Christ, my conscience is saying that this is permissible) and am combining different Christian symbols including alpha, omega, cross, and other symbols interwoven into a single design.

I was thinking of having the eye of Providence there too and I'm obviously using it for its Christian usage. What are your thoughts? I was even going to place a crown of thorns on top the tip of the triangle (which represents the holy spirit)

You said "I'm obviously using it for it's Christian usage". I guess I would say if the tattoo is for your own enjoyment and the eye has special meaning to you, I can't see a problem. But it's Christian meaning isn't so obvious to others. If you are looking at it as a testimony to others, I would ask if you think the majority of people would understand it's Christian meaning or if that might be more of a hinderance. I think you yourself know it could send the wrong message and that is why you feel compelled to ask about it.

Maybe, i think you're right. I mean, yeah it's for my own enjoyment and also a testimony at the same time. It would be surrounded by other obvious symbols of Christianity and if i felt i needed to i could even explain.

Even before i knew what the eye of providence was, i saw that symbol online and always thought it was really cool looking. I feel again no convictions about it in my heart which is what i think Jesus cares about, but you raise a good point, in fact it's the point why i think i made this thread. It is something to think about.

I try to never rush into decisions, God rewards those with patience!

Something to pray about for a bit more perhaps. Sounds like you're on the right track, seeking God's guidance.

Yeah I've found even if i (believe) i have my answers i try asking others, perhaps then i get new opinions and perspectives. It doesn't hurt either lol

But yes this is something i will think over more, maybe take some time away from it and come back with a fresher mind so to speak.

the eye of providence originates from Egyptian mythology and its the eye of Horus, but Horus was the son of Osiris and Arch-enemy of Seth the god of chaos.

If you use just the eye without putting anything symbolic around it then it can be the eye of God as being His eye is on the sparrow and I know He watches me. Just be prepared for any negative comments, but does open a door of witness to teach Christ to others.

Truthfully? To 90% of the population, you'll just be another kid with a tattoo, and most people will give no thought to what it might mean.

I would strongly encourage you not to get tattoo's and not to look upon the eye or horus as being a symbol of God..

You don't need me to tell you what I think, you are a mature person and I'm sure you know what to decide.

Oh, no, tattoos!!!
Lol man that's a big one for most, tons of verses out there to support not to.
This is strictly my opinion because I am debating tattoos myself. I have scars on my forearms and I was thinking of getting scripture based art over the ugly. Scriptures close to my heart of course.
I like the idea of tattoos. If our body is a temple why can't we put the truth of his word on us. Its not the mark of the beast but, most see it that way.

Seems a bit radical to some... Thats the point. If I am going to make a presence in churches I want to make people look past the flesh. To see the God fearing brother in Christ that we truly need to recognize in most.

Anyways... Starting a rant. I don't see a problem if its a window to ministry. Just make sure it's what you really want.

Sadly it looks like the member that had this question hasn't returned to visit us since the day after her posted it last year. So your advice may fall on deaf ears as far as he is concerned, but at least the rest of us get to see it! :yes

If you do a search of the threads here you will find that a while ago there were a number of discussions about tattoos with a lot of comments from various viewpoints. Maybe you already saw that, but if not, it will probably be good reading for you in helping you make your decision. (Or it might must confuse you more, hard to say!)

Personally I think it's not true that there are "tons of verses out there so support not to" (not to get a tattoo). Most people that opposed them in past discussions seemed to base their opposition on one or two Old Testament verses which may or may not be referring to tattoos as we know them today, and one or two NT verses taken out of context with a lot read into them that I don't believe was meant to be there. In my own opinion there really doesn't seem to be much at all in the word of God that prohibits tattoos in general and certainly nothing that prohibits the kind you are talking about.

I don't have any personally, but I really don't see any condemnation of them. There is condemnation of the concepts that some people's tattoos represent, but not of the art itself. To condemn all tattoos because of this is no more logical or practical than, for example, to condemn all books just because some books are written about "evil" subjects.
