Matthew 28:19
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

I still tend toward:
John's baptism of repentance (and believe in the one who comes after me who will baptize you in Holy Spirit and fire).

Jesus's baptism of eternal life (believe in the shed blood of Jesus).

Holy Spirit baptism (power to be a witness)

At the physical creation us made the body and Spirit The Holy breathed life into it.

At the creation of word in heart and mind the Father and Son created the born again man and the Holy Spirit gave the power.

Father repentance
Son eternal life
Holy Spirit power

Each member of the Godhead agrees with the work each one does, and yet each one has an area of expertise. Jesus sought to do the will of the Father. The Holy Spirit was sent to us / them. So much seperate, and so much in agreement. Much like this forum expressing individual viewpoints, but still in unity of faith.

Hi eddif, I just want to clarify...I do not see any difference or conflict between Matthew 28:19 and Acts 2:38....it is not an either or as if this is a magical formula so use the correct one, it is the same...also the reference to "name" is not referring to a glutteral utterance a personal name (like Joe or Bob)....it is speaking of authority and that one's presence....by the authority of the Father, Son, AND Holy Spirit we who are born of His Spirit are Baptized (immersed and identified with) His authority, His presence....by the authority of, by the presence of, and by the faith of the Lord Jesus Christ WE baptize and it is into this authority. presence, and person that via the Holy Spirit these recipients are placed...did I make sense?

If the heart of the seeker is right God,then by the authority OF the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit we bring them INTO the Lord Jesus Christ (as a member of the Body)...into His presence (they in Him by the Holy Spirit) and His presence in them (He in them through the Holy Spirit) ..

By this we become echad like with the Lord Jesus shared with the Father before the foundation of the world (in John 17 He prays for this Unity)

Matthew 18:18 "Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."

Now, the question is, Does God Bind and loose, and then carries out His will to the believers on earth? Or do the believers bind and loose, and God puts His stamp of approval on their decision? As the Scripture dictates, it is the believers, the Church, that binds and looses. We are looking at that first Century Church here. All one has to do is study that Church in the Book of Acts to realize that God thru the Holy Spirit was one with the Apostles and those early Believers.

The Church of Jesus Christ is the Right Hand of God (Elohim, plural name) Since Israel was supposed to bring glory to God thru introducing Salvation thru Jesus the Son of God, they rebelled against God and Jesus (Messiah) died, rose again, and set up His Church to do what Israel was supposed to do.

Once Constantine got saved, he messed up the whole thing by declaring, or forcing, all connected with him Christians. The Catholic Church emerged from there and the rest is history.

If I did not hit on an important question of yours, please ask again and I'll try and help....I love You. :hug

LOL I Am for both.

I Corinthians 3:6 KJV
I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.

All corporate and yet individual. Us in Christ and Christ in us.

I Corinthians -2:27 KJV
Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.
(Other translations use individually members)

I wonder at times. LOL
IN 18:15 we had two people dealing with sin

In 18:16 we had perhaps four people dealing with sin

In 18:17 we had the church dealing with sin.

Two verses later we are deciding if verse 15 can be true? If two people deal with forgiveness is the sin not forgiven?

We are headed to verse 21-22

Ah... Yes... Matthew....

You'd think there's not much to say about a genealogy, but there are a few interesting things in this one. Usually, whenever a story begins with a genealogy, it is to show the nobility of the main character of the story. While this genealogy does show that Jesus is descended from the line of David, it doesn't bypass the "less desirable" elements in his family tree, as many genealogies do. It includes foreigners (Ruth was a Mobaitess), murderers (King David murdered Uriah to get Bathsheba), idolaters (Manasseh "did what was evil in the sight of the LORD" (II Kings 21) and re-introduced idol worship), and many others. I don't know whether it's what Matthew had in mind, but to me, that shows that Jesus is everybody's "kinsman redeemer", not just the Jews, but also Gentiles and even the worst of sinners.

Does anyone here have any idea why the number 14 was so important to Matthew?

The TOG
It was not so much the number 14 was important, what was important was the continuity and order of the prophecy fulfillment. It was not a random event, It was planned for a precise time. and in a certain order of the affairs of man. (Gal. 4: 1-5) Esp. vs 4&5.

I have been teaching the Old Testament of the Christian Bible to be a misnomer for a couple of decades now and that the only God authored Life Application Commentary on the Bible is misnamed the New testament. So I wish you well getting people to understand the obvious, I've not had much success on that.
Hi Taylor, What would you call it . Just the Bible, or the Book. The Scriptures is what I usually use. But is also the Old Covenant and the New Covenant. with man. The Book of Grace? or as John calls it "The Word"

Yeah, I have to side with Chopper on this one....Old Covenant (based on the Law) and or plus the New Covenant (based on grace)...the first dependent on what man would have to do (with no promise of eternal life), and the second on what God sent Messiah to do FOR US beginning at Genesis 3:15 (which grants eternal life for those who faithe)....I believe even in the time of the Old Covenant, "salvation" was still BY grace THROUGH faith...but I have heard other arguments also using scripture...

Yes, The Old Covenant Saints were saved by the grace of God by their faith in His Promises (looking forward) (Rom. 15: 8)

I Peter 3:19
By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;

The OT / OC Saints were / are saved by the gospel preached by Jesus. Their bodies were in the grave, but their spirits were in Abraham's bosom. I will concede that not everyone goes to that theology. There is but one name that brings eternal life.

I Corinthians 13:13
And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.

The agape love of God is the greatest abiding love. The work of God the Fsther combined with the work of God the Son empowered by the work of God the Holy Spirit.

I am a jerk from Mississippi, and I know full well there is a more perfect way to explain all this.

John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

The actions of God (agape) are the enduring thing that saves. Faith has a focus, and it is focused on the work of God. Hope has a focal point, and it is the work of God. The belief in the work of Jesus saves. Faith may get you in Abrahams bosom, but a visit from Jesus was needed to finish / complete the work. The gospel after physical death? Then, but now the NC / NT operates.

Took me years in John's repentance to learn. Learn what? Repentance does not save (it is a move in the right direction). Jesus saved / saves. Holy Spirit empowers the gospel preaching.

Brother Paul, Douglas, and Edif, you guys are right on!!! O my goodness, when I look at the old Patriarchs and see from their writings their faith in the promises of God, WOW, that gives me so much peace that I'm on a good path, the path that they walked. That Old Covenant has so very much life saving theology in it that just makes my heart dance within me. Just this morning, I was studying Isaiah...Isaiah 62:1 "For Zion's sake will I not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest, until the righteousness thereof go forth as brightness, and the salvation thereof as a lamp that burneth. 62:2 And the Gentiles shall see thy righteousness, and all kings thy glory: and thou shalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of the LORD shall name. 62:3 Thou shalt also be a crown of glory in the hand of the LORD, and a royal diadem in the hand of thy God."

Hey, the Gentiles shall see? Wow, that me!! By faith, some of precious Israel believed that and lived in the joy of knowing that someday they would behold the Salvation of Almighty God with no respecter of persons, only those who by faith believed Jehovah their Elohim.

Hi eddif, I myself do not believe that 1 Pet. 3: 19 means that Christ went to the prison of condemned souls, waiting for judgment, but that at the time of His Spirit, preaching through Noah (for 100 years), warning them of Gods judgment by water. That those who believed would be saved in the Ark (a type of Christ saving man from God's wrath for those who believed) as He did by His sacrifice on the cross. And the water in type is the baptism of those who came out of the flood because of their faith in God.. The result, being saved with a good conscience, coming out of the flood as God promised. Nowhere in Scripture does it teach that God gives the condemned a second chance. For it is appointed for man once to die, and then the JUDGMENT. If a man is to be saved by faith, he is to do it on this side.

Yes Chopper, That was the second part of the promise (The Gentile) (Rom. 15: 8; 9-12) (Acts 15: 14-17)

The folks in Abraham's bosom are in a temporal home of the good guys of faith.

The passage is Luke 16:19-31

I will make one or two comments and let you read the passage.

In verse 23 the rich man was in hell (bad guy in bad place).

Between the good guys and bad guys is a gulf / mote (?). I have no ideas on the details (verse 26). Prison of sorts.

They both exist. In Luke as you posted and in (2 Peter 2: 4-6) (1 Peter 3: 19) (Rev. 20: 1-3) They are the same thing. The final place after the Great White Throne Judgment will be the Lake of Fire where the False Prophet and Satan will be cast alive for ever and ever. Satan does not rule there, He suffers just like all the condemned of God. (Rev. 20:10).

Chopper,

Printed out both pages. Read it a couple of times. I've always wondered about this.
What about the Our Father. Jesus praying at Getsemane.
You brought out great ideas I never thought of.
Will post again tomorrow.

Wondering

I do not know about the theology BUT, My 10 year old said, "Jesus had taken ALL THE SIN OF THE WORLD ON HIS SHOULDERS, He had to go the where the sin belonged and bury it there before He could enter the presence of a Holy GOD. I think He did fairly good.
