In no particular order:

The Long War (series) - Christian Cameron

The Secret Garden - Frances Hodgson Burnett
Morgans Run - Colleen McCullough

Mormor og de åtte ungene (Grandma and the eight kids. Series) - Anne Cath Vestly
Mio my Son , the Lionheart Brothers, Ronja the Robbers Daughter - Astrid Lindgren

I guess I should include The Language of God by Francis Collins, the man who directed the Human Genome Project. His rational and devout presentation of the case for Christianity as revealed in His creation, is an inspiring and informative read.

Have you read Tuchman's The March of Folly? Or even better, A Distant Mirror? Both are extraordinarily good. I've never read The Guns of August. I need to do that.

Yeah, I have. I think I've read most of her books. I love her writing style, it's so readable.

Outside the Bible, the works of Flavius Josephus, specifically the war of the Jews, books 5,6, & 7 since they cover Jesus's gospel prophecies fulfilled. The works of first century stoic philosopher Seneca are great since they mostly focus on morality which closely mirrors the letters of Paul.
