There seems to be optimism in Ranger country:

The big "IF" is if Hamels and Darvish can stay healthy.

The one person who has really surprised me this spring is DD. I figured he would always just be a part time player/pinch runner but it looks like he might actually become a fulltime OFer, whether it's with the Rangers or someone else is left to be determined...

Well, not off to a good start. Starting pitching and relievers giving up too many walks (except Hamels, but he gave up some big hits).

It was a tough team, but we should have beat them with our pen twice and did not.

Considering Leland used Dyson like a rented mule during WBC and the same classic helped put Beltre on the DL. Not to mention Lucroy who did most of the catching for WBC looks whooped right now and it shows as his bat is terrible.

And Bush just went to get his shoulder looked at, they recalled Martinez but not Kela wonder what he did that was so bad???
I think the BP got a Hawaiian hex. :)

Hey but Leclerc did superb. What? Now 5 scoreless innings of work. I'm sure it has to do with teams not seeing him that much or at all, but that can hold us for a few weeks until the rest of the fellas get their head out of their duff.

Looks like Joey is finally starting to figure things out without him they'd only have 1 win, wonder what will happen when Beltre gets back probably a trip to AAA...
We can't do any worse with Joey playing LF day to day or platooning with Rua or DD. Profar needs to go back down and get some at bats. He's horrible right now and it is because he is not getting day to day at bats.

Hauschild has pitched in only one game so far, Banny seems to be riding some and ignoring others and it's not working that well. If it wasn't for 3 players they would have no wins the others aren't contributing but are still playing...

Joey needs at least 5 days of ABs per week if not then send him to AAA to continue progressing...

Well big Haus got in two full innings today with Darvish going 7 full shut out innings. They got to Haus in the bottom 9th a bit but he finished it out. 8-3 Rangers.

Could have swept the Angels if not for the blown save by Dyson in game 1. They should be 6-3 at least, but such is baseball. Mazara and CarGo went deep again.

I agree. The more MLB at bats for him the better he gets. He keeps seeing 7-8 pitch at bats running the count up. Significant improvement.

Astros had to hold their nose for almost 6 weeks with Bregman last year and the kid turned it around in the last 3 weeks of the season.

He may up staying by default cause all of the other guys he would be competing against in LF/1B are really stinking it up, all are waaayyyy below the Mendoza line. All of the supposed table setters and better base runners can't find their way out of a wet paper bag right now and sooner or later the other guys are going to cool off. It's time to start taking them out of the lineup for a day or two to let them work with Iapoce and Mashore on their swings/approach. (Especially Gomez .139 as leadoff isn't going to get it)...

Wow we stink this year.

And you can see the frustration:

Excerpt:

The starters are giving up way too many walks: During a painful 39-pitch first inning, Martin Perez only allowed one walk and, technically, it was intentional after Banister passed on having the starter throw a 3-0 pitch to power-hitting Khris Davis. It was the 38th by a Rangers starter this season, the most in the AL.

Both Khris Davis and leadoff hitter Rajai Davis, who doubled, ended up scoring after Perez gave up three consecutive two-out hits.

The Rangers want their pitchers to throw inside more often this year in order to make their stuff away later in counts more effective. Yu Darvish wouldn't do it Tuesday and lost a sixth-inning lead. Perez couldn't do it Wednesday, though he tried. Of the 39 pitches in the inning, 24 were on the inner third or farther in, but the majority of the strikes were on the edge of the middle of the plate. Hence, the two-out hits and the inability to put batters away.

They DFAd Hauschild and called up Bass, they put Griffin on DL for ankle and called up Martinez, they released Josh cause he screwed up another knee (this is probably the end for him) 3/4s of the lineup are hitting below the Mendoza line (so much for the "Quality At Bat" theory) bullpen ERA stinks. With all that being said it's surprising they are only 3 games under .500 should probably be 10 under...

Kinda makes you wonder which shoe will be the first to drop, demotions of players to AAA or assistant coach changes??? (Me personally I wouldn't be telling the whole baseball world my theories on hitting and pitching which allows the opposition to figure out a way to negate them, but I digress)......

Well it seems KC stinks worse than we are. :)

Good pitching ? Jury out. Let's see what they do against the next team. Good having a 3 game winning streak. Yu on the bump tomorrow for the sweep.

Although I think Nicks good performance has something to do with listening to the pitching coach staff (and Lucroy) and he now has a cutter he has control of. So maybe Nick found that strike out pitch and will take the long reliever role when all settles down.

Good for him as a fellow Fordham Ram I'm happy for him.
