Kiwidan,

I do agree with Jim Parker that baptism CAN also be a sign of an inner change BUT IT IS MUCH MORE.
If Jesus said to do it, He must have felt it was important. He never said to do something that was not important. And we should pay heed to what He told us to do, even if we don't fully understand why.

I do however, believe in "spiritual baptism". The thief on the cross would be one example.
Another would be if someone became born again, accepted Jesus, salvation, or however you want to say it, and then died on their way to somewhere. Certainly they would receive spiritual baptism.

However, if one has the possibility, water baptism should be desired and understood as much as possible, precisely because Jesus commanded it.

Thats good what you said that Jesus is important and what he says is authority. There's a positive and a negative in everything, like people more followed the Apostles and doctrine not Christ, as in they are the leadership like Paul said this or Paul said that. Paul gets more acknowledgement than Christ.

I bet if we looked at all scriptures posted about 90% would be Paul.

Does anyone know the reason why Paul thanked God he didn't baptise anymore people.
The scriptures explain it.
1Co 1:11-15 For it has been declared to me concerning you, my brethren, by those of Chloe’s household, that there are contentions Now I say this, that each of you says, “I am of Paul,” or “I am of Apollos,” or “I am of Cephas,” or “I am of Christ.” Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul? I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispus and Gaius, lest anyone should say that I had baptized in my own name.

Jesus personally wrote nothing to be passed on to us.
Everything we know about Jesus we know because of what the apostles wrote.
Of the apostles, Paul wrote the most.
Almost all of what Paul wrote is expository and commentary on what Jesus had done.
Because Paul has provided the most of the explanation of the "Jesus event", most of the references will be to Paul's writing. His letters comprise the most exhaustive source for understanding the Gospel and, therefore, are the logical "go to" first choice.

Paul wasn't even with Jesus the whole event like the diciples, and he also argued with them. How would Paul know everything if he never eye witness everything.

yea - good question - not understood or answerable because is not understood nor acknowledged that knowledge is an inner psychical process like telepathy, clairvoyance etc often known as infused knowledge like Adam and the other animals, birds, plants etc had at creation - twinc

Its all to confusing the whole baptism thing. And Jesus said one must be born of Water and the Spirit. Other verses say John baptised in water but one greater will baptise in fire and the spirit, and other verses about different baptisms, water and spirit.

It could be one just needs to repent and believe in Jesus, and that's water baptism.

"It happened that while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul passed through the upper country and came to Ephesus, and found some disciples. He said to them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" And they said to him, "No, we have not even heard whether there is a Holy Spirit." And he said, "Into what then were you baptized?" And they said, "Into John's baptism." Paul said, "John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in Him who was coming after him, that is, in Jesus." When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they began speaking with tongues and prophesying."

Ephesians 4:5
one Lord, one faith, one baptism

"This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he was speaking and teaching accurately the things concerning Jesus, being acquainted only with the baptism of John; and he began to speak out boldly in the synagogue."

I have no idea.

Ok. I done some study. The truth.

We must believe the Apostles words. Peter said be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ. Not in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. There just titles. The name is Jesus Christ.

All those baptisms in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit is a false baptism.

The truth is to be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ, thats for all mankind to recieve the gift of the Holy Spirit, not my words but the authority and words of the Apostles.

Just believing doesn't sanctify. One must not only believe but be baptised only in the name of Jesus Christ to be fully sanctified.

Faith without works is dead.

There is no other way.

Everyone must be baptised fully submerged in the name of Jesus only.

Anyone who was baptised with the sprinkle of water or baptised in the name of the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit must be re-baptised corrected.

Fully submerged in the name of Jesus. There is no other way.

Can't write too much on the tablet.
Could you read my post no. 150 on page 8 and tell me why you don't agree?

I believe you've reached some incorrect conclusions and I'm not sure why.

JESUS said to baptize in the name of all 3 in the trinity.

Then did Jesus get it wrong?
He said: “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
" (Mat 28:19)
Should I do what Jesus said or not?

The early church followed the rule recorded in the Didache. (Late 1st to early 2nd century catechetical instruction)
Didache, Chapter 7, verses 1-4
(1) Concerning baptism, baptize in this way. After you have spoken all these things, “baptize in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,” in running water.
(2) If you do not have running water, baptize in other water. If you are not able in cold, then in warm.
(3) If you do not have either, pour out water three times on the head “in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.”
(4) Before the baptism the one baptizing and the one being baptized are to fast, and any others who are able. Command the one being baptized to fast beforehand a day or two.

So, considering Jesus' words and the record of the primitive Church's practice, what do you think?

No, he said baptise in the name of the 3 titles, and the name of the 3 titles is Jesus.

Jesus left so the Spirit could be given, from there through the 12 Apostles only who have the authority and when the world asked Peter what should we do, Peter said be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ.

As Peter baptised in the name of Jesus and God approved and added numbers.

I tell you go study all the scriptures in there full context on baptism.

Who had the Spirit needed the water and who had the water needed the Spirit, and who was not baptised corrected needed to be baptised corrected.

Baptism in the name of the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit is false. They are 3 titles but not the one name one must be saved. There is no other name but Jesus.

No, he said baptise in the name of the 3 titles, and the name of the 3 titles is Jesus.
He said absolutely NOTHING about titles.
He said baptize in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,.
Those are not "titles" of Jesus.
Those are the three persons of the Trinity.

If that is "false" then Jesus is also false.
If that is false then the scripture is false.

Where ever you're getting this "title = Jesus" stuff, send it back and get a refund.
It's junk.

The Apostles were chosen and approved by God, only they were given the power to heal the sick, forgive sins, and even raise the dead. They have thrones in Heaven. Jesus prayed that people would believe in the Apostles words.

But no, no, no. The church today and its pastors think they know more and have more authority than the Apostles and say I am a apostle and i say baptise in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Show me one scripture where someone was baptised in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

The name to be baptised in Jesus Christ. The church is full of a bunch of liars. I tell you the truth. The church was corrupted and had imposter from the days of the Apostles.

You must listen to the true chosen Apostles not what your Church who thinks they know more than the Apostles and they are an Apostle.

I agree with much of what you say.

But JESUS said how to baptize, not my local church.
Explain Mathew 28:19 please.

There is only One name where one can be saved. Its not 'Father', its not 'Son', and its not 'Holy Spirit'. It is Jesus. There is no other name.

Why do you thinkthe Apostles who Christ was talking with, not you, not me, not the church pastor, but the chosen Apostles went out and baptised in the name of Jesus.

Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

God approved.

So those who received his word (Peter)were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.

Paul explained it as well. Listen to Paul.

They are the true Apostles. Today's so called teachers and baptisers are crooked. They are using the false teachings from the 2nd century. Its not Apostle teachings.

Paul said, "John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in Him who was coming after him, that is, in Jesus." When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

Then Peter said, “Surely no one can stand in the way of their being baptized with water. They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.”So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ.

Must be baptised in water and spirit. Just believing not enough.

How would you know what the church says.
You never go to church.
Go ahead.
Tell us one church you've gone to in the past year.

I know what the church says and the Church baptises in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Where the true Apostles and true teachers of the Church baptised in the name of Jesus. The one and only name.

Jesus said one cannot enter the kingdom unless they are born of water and the Spirit. One must be submerged in water in the name of Jesus. That is born both of the water and spirit.

The thief on the cross was before Jesus gave the Spirit.

Baptised in the Father, baptised in the Son, and baptised in the Spirit is not the name. The Lord Jesus is the only name.

The title is Christ, the name is Jesus.
Jesus is the Christ.
The Father is not the Christ.
The Holy Spirit is not the Christ.

Jesus, the Christ, said to baptize in the NAME of the Father and in the NAME of the Son and in the NAME of the Holy Spirit.

I'm not following you at all. :confused :dunce
