Firstoff let me describe my situation. I am thirty one years old and certainly tiredof waiting to advance in my Christian faith. I need facts and I need them now!So please give me as much detailed information as you possibly can.

Ijust got married in July and my wife and I are staying with family in a ratherlarge house. We do not have much as bills with no children but are hungry forthe Lord. I have made plenty of money in the past and can do again in thefuture if I needed to; but that is not where the Lord will have me. That isjust an empty road. I have learned that money doesn’t bring happiness nor doesit keep out the rain. I am currently working part time making much less and shemight be getting another second part time job to make ends meet and save somemoney.

WhatI am trying to say is that we are in the situation by choice entirely. We are tryingto save are pennies; get our certifications; degrees and have time forourselves while at the same time spend time with family. We are by no meanshurting but also by no means well off. She already has a degree and iscurrently seeking a certification and I am going to a community college forbusiness world and working part time.

WhatI need is a real and practical solution to a bible college that is accreditedand realistic; and what I mean realistic is extremely affordable with a goodreputation. I am looking for a college to where I can take classes at a reasonablerate or at my own pace. Take a few here and there part time or full time ormaybe even just one at a time. As far as prices go anything close to 400 oreven 200 is absolutely crazy per credit hour. I mean how in the world issomeone suppose to be able to afford 1200.00 per class. I can be somewhatflexible on some of these things but I need a good balance of everything. Iwouldn’t mind actual books too and not just CDs or mp3s. I think someone elsementioned that once before. Also someone else said you can’t have your cake andeat it too. Well it 2011 with technology today I would think you could haveyour cake and eat it too but I could be wrong. So if I am just hit it betweenmy eyes and tell me my facts.

Tosum it up I am just looking for a clean good bible college that is accredited witha good reputation so that when I am finished with all of my schooling in anycapacity with my secular degree and my biblical degree I can go in anydirection God has for me. I do not want to end up creek without a paddlebecause I made the wrong decision and cut corners. Money is a concern becauseif it is expensive I just can’t go. And where does that leave me?

Considerationsfrom raw internet searching:

Accredited

Moody Bible Institute / GlobalUniversity / South African Theological Seminary / Etc

Non-Accredited

Andersonville Theological /Columbia Evangelical Seminary / Etc …

The above credited options are still between 150-200per semester hour. So basically even the cheaper accredited colleges are goingto cost me over 500.00 per class? Are you serious? How is anyone suppose toafford that? Or do I just have the all wrong?

The non-accredited schools seem to be my onlyfinancial solution needing any under 100.00 per credit hour. One just takes thechance that his Biblical Degree might not have as much spunk as his accreditedcounterpart.

I guess what I am thinking if I am looking at this formore of hobby reasons like casual discipleship for the Lord in my church andpersonal growth the non-accredited colleges would be a fine choice? Or would they?If I wanted to one day branch out and do something professional for the Lord Iwould need to go into debt and partake in a more expensive school? Is that whateveryone is telling me?

Wellanyhow thank you so much for taking the time in reading my thread. Any and allinput would be greatly appreciated and well taken. So let’s blow up this threadand figure some things out.

What do you think about these any ideas?

I think I am going to go with the most affordable accreditedoption for my future goals and dreams with the Lord!

Re: I need a distance learning bible college that is extremely affordable and accredi

Thank you so much for all of the kind replies. I reallyappreciate it. I am still on my journey; but believe I am going to go with themost affordable accredited option. Even if I just take a few classes here andthere. One day I will have a fully respectable bible degree that I may use forthe Lord in the future if needed. And if not I will have the knowledge for myown personal understanding and reasons .

That I may ultimately learn how to serve the Lord properly. Formy own personal edification; and finally to learn how to serve others around meproperly.

This way since I am going to do it. I mine as well havesomething to show for it when I’m done. Something inside still has a hint ofmaybe going with an extremely affordable and respectable non-accredited biblecollege for simply knowledge and personal hobby like reasons.

At the end of the day I will probably go with AffordableAccredited Option! Never know where the future may take me!

Best,

ChristianMaker

Iam still reading “Walston’s Guide to Christian Distance Learning†so thingsmight change; but I am pretty much set on these schools because they areaffordable to our budget. All I want is a very affordable respectable degreeand I believe these schools can provide that. Remember this is more hobbydriven than Pastoral driven. I am still seeking a college degree at my localcommunity college and will transferring to a university once I complete myassociates. I just want to take a couple of Christian classes here and there alongthe way while I purse my secular degree. This is for my own personal edificationand for me to prepare myself for the service of the Lord in the future forwhatever that may bring. I really appreciate everyone’s comments and lookforward to growing with everyone in the future. Also please don’t hesitate toadd last minute comments. Thank you everyone and have a wonderful day!

Andto everyone else that had concerns about my wife working too much. She is on amission and is doing exactly what she wants to do. I told her not to take thesecond job but she insisted. Plus when I was making good money before I savedup some money. I also have extremely low interest loans that I can personallytake out that are custom to me if needed. I am working part time and we are byno means struggling. As far as her family goes they asked us to move in. We hadour own place but they are a little older in age and wanted some companionship. It was a win win for everyone. Not everyone fights with their family; somefamilies love each other and look forward to spending time with each other. I’msure our situation will change in the future but for right now this is whereGod wants everyone in our family to be. We just need to watch our pennies andmake sure we do not get into a bad situation by being careless. However I doappreciate everyone’s concern. I can’t wait until I get my degree and can gointo the work place once again as a paid professional and on my free timespread the word of God because I know how and I have the love in my heart.

Godbless everyone!

Re: I need a distance learning bible college that is extremely affordable and accredi

Hi ChristianMaker:

I am not going to recommend or suggest any such online college because I may be looking for one myself soon (and I'm in my 50's!)

However, I do want to go a tad off topic just to caution you regarding going on line. If you want to study that way, I'd use a Mac OS or Linux (since that is free) to avoid viruses that sickly Microsoft gets but not the others. Microsoft is the # one reason I decided not to study on line because rest assured, the day of the BIG EXAM, or the day of the BIG PROJECT, the computer will crash with a virus. Then the professor thinks you are making excuses by buying more time. I don't know about you, but I'm willing to take my own fall from my faults, but not that from the inadequacy of another. Awhile back I switched to Linux (it's free!) and could not be happier. All this for a heads up in case you are using MIcrosoft I would not want you severely disappointed after you worked hard and spent money for a course.

So. along with you I may consider in the near future studying on line now that I won't get viruses any longer. If I find anything, I'll let you know.

Try Lancaster Bible College it cost me 21K for my bachelors, or better yet Liberty University gives away scholarships like candy or at least they did. I rejected Liberty as being to liberal, and was a fool as I could have gone there for free on an academic scholarship.

Re: I need a distance learning bible college that is extremely affordable and accredi

Hey! check out Central Christian College of the Bible (www.cccb.edu). This is where I currently attend college. My wife, Jessica and myself will pull away from here with Bach. degrees for a grand total of 14,000 combined (off-campus). They have a wonderful thing called "paid-for" tuition schoolarships that everyone who is full-time students gets. Basically, you don't have to pay tuition at this college, and it is accredited. They are also working on getting higher levels of accreditation currently, which means that more credits will transfer to more colleges. I am currently gettting a bach of science in Christian Counseling, and will be able to go on to Johnson University in Knoxville TN for a Masters, so its worth it. the online classes are very well put together as long as you do the work correctly and don't take short cuts. I would recommend checking the school out though, it's a God-send for a young couple like us (we are 24 and 23 years old). Good luck on your search, and I hope this helps! If you got any other questions, just let me know

Re: I need a distance learning bible college that is extremely affordable and accredi

Non-government accredited, but accredited by a religious network of accredited schools.. affordable ($1,400).. and AWESOME POWERFUL TEACHINGS

www.imilive.org

you can do a 2 week trial.. classes already started 1 month ago, but you can still get in i'm sure.

Re: I need a distance learning bible college that is extremely affordable and accredi

Stay away from Andersonville....

Accreditation will cost you dearly

Try Trinity College of the Bible... they're unaccredited, but when I looked at them, they seem ok... I went to Bob Jones, and they weren't regionally accredited. The degree is barely accepted. They're finally seeking regional accreditation.

Hello everyone! I am back.

I still have not made a decision. However, I am ready to pull the trigger on something ASAP.

Since I created this thread I have learned a lot and have been blessed a lot.

I have started a community group in my local church, got a fabulous job and have been saving money, and have a baby on the way.

I am no longer trying to ever keep up with the Jones's or try to get the best of the best. I 100% just want a solid distance learning online program that is NOT accredited. I just care about reputation and honor. That if I graduate from their program that it will be respected and people will know that I received a good education.

I have already completed my BA with a 4.0, I am looking for a Master Degree.

I would go to Moody in a heart beat by here is no way I am paying 400.00 per credit hour for about 1200.00 per class. Not in this world.

So if you guys don't mind, I am looking for something extremely affordable because I am doing this just because I feel it is on my heart from God. I am looking at it like advance bible study with a certificate on the side after completing. Don't really want to pay an arm and a leg for that.

Please let me know what everyone thinks. It would be greatly appreciated.

Where I understand the question...
I don't understand it. (Or at least your thinking process behind it)

Say for example purposes only you were to give God a present...a tangible gift of some kind purchased in a store. And where you are capable of earning a large income (due to the gifts God has given you) you chose not to but instead earn as little as possible and then went to the discount stores with the cheapest merchandise in the cheapest section of town to purchase a gift for God... because that's what you can afford due to not using the talents God gave you.

Yeah...that's going to be well received.

Maybe figuring out another thought process for all of this might be in order. Like maybe making as much as possible, being generous towards others, while living well below your means to save as much as possible to afford the finest education to become one of the best clergy possible.

Thank you for your interest in Vintage Bible College & Seminary. VBC is a non-denominational school of ministry, offering both on-campus and online programs of study. We are committed to Biblical integrity and leadership in providing affordable quality education.
https://www.vintagebiblecollege.org/onl

That is what I am more leaning towards. Something a lot more affordable but respectable. I am more or less looking for something that is like an advance bible study for myself but I get a certificate at the end. However, I do not want to attend a Diploma Mill either.

Anyone else have any new schools that are affordable and yet respectable? Does not necessarily need to be accredited. Just at least have a good reputation of producing good Christian Students with sound doctrine.

Are you saying because I can afford it I should just go to Moody Bible Institute? Get the best of the best and be done with it?

Why this desire to go to "A" school to obtain "THEIR" certification? Why not study with many people and affiliations throughout your life? Are you trying to become approved by men by attending a school they say is THE one to have a sheepskin from?

What school does the Bible tell us Jesus graduated from?

I'm not too sure God is going to ask to see your diploma.

Ever read the story about Moses crossing the Red Sea?
God asked Moses why he was waiting? Especially since he had been given the Staff of God to use...and he wasn't trying.

What I am saying is that God gave you talents that can earn you a larger income than you currently do. If you earn and save a lot of money you can get a great education with that saved money and your family won't have to suffer while you go to school.
Giving to God a "work of your hands" is serious business. Second rate is worthless.

A good school isn't necessarily the most expensive. A good school gives you the tools to research answers for yourself in a competent fashion. Seminary also teaches counseling, church Leadership and finance.

I would research them all thoroughly. Including ones far away. Dwight Moody has a great reputation but so does SouthWestern Seminary. Many are entrenched in such things as Calvinism and Dispensationalism. Might be good to check them all out very carefully.

I took courses from the Berean Bible Institute and was very, very pleased with texts and courses. In addition, I learned a lot.
