Be careful what you put a saddle on. You might not be able to ride it. I watched a wonderful church go down the tube once. It was an UGLY, SAD experience. It was a spirit filled Holy Spirit church and where my wife and I went right after getting saved then baptized in the Holy Spirit. There were deliverances, salvations, helps, encouragements, gifts of the spirit operating, street ministries. A cornucopia of the love of God flowing onto the needy like me and many many others.

But the church leaders took their eyes off Jesus and put them on the so called prosperity message. The "God wants us all to be millionaires" fairy tale. The spirit of the Lord ever so slowly drained from that assembly like a pond with a leak in the dam. The music got louder and louder and the anointing of the Holy Spirit got less and less. Finally we left the church where so many wonderful things happened. The spring where thirsty souls came to drink had dried up.

It happens to individuals too. Promotions, wealth, sudden fame. I've seen Christians that were elected as a deacon or elder get puffed up with pride so that they become little egotistical tyrants instead of being humble servants. Watch your step. If you think it can't happen to you then you're a blue ribbon candidate.

Let God choose your mounts for you. He'll never put you up on anything that he doesn't help you to subdue.

James 4:6 (NKJV)

But He gives more grace. Therefore He says:
“God resists the proud,
But gives grace to the humble.”

i dunno what the deal is, but the prosperity gospel is a big deal in the US, and I seem to recall reading that its making a big impact in some other nations, too.

If the prosperity gospel were truth, it would work in the poorest of countries. Sometimes God's greatest blessing is keeping one poor and totally dependent upon Him. Many of us have gone through those periods. When times were the toughest, I leaned hard into God. He always saw me through my troubles.

What Christian in their right mind would think such a thing? Matthew 19:24 is pretty clear about it.
Yes, but the average person calling themselves Christian opens their Bible once a week to impress the people around them, and then there are a small, small, minority, like me that try to be faithful with their reading to the point of study. If God spoke to better than 98% of the people in Church on Sunday morning they would be crying for an appointment with the Head Shrinker.

He has chosen the poor rich in faith the word tells me. One thing you notice about the poor shown in videos and documentaries, they're always smiling and laughing. God has blessed the poor with an anointing of joy. Something those millions won't buy. We've had a lot and we've had little but as long as we have Jesus dwelling with us I'm content. Everywhere and in all things we are instructed to be full or suffer need. By faith you must believe that God controls all of your circumstances not just part of them. There is a false notion that if anything is going on in a chtistians life that is unpleasant it can't be from God. That's wrong. Though He were a son yet learned He obedience through the things He suffered. He is the pattern we are to follow. I believe beyond any shadow that God is in total control of the details of my life. In forty years I've seen too many things to ever believe differently. If He sees every sparrow that falls how much more the details of the lives of those that have fled to Him for refuge? Our life and times are in the good Master's hands and thank God for it. I did things terribly when they were in mine.
