Grandparents on father side was secretive. Recently found out that a brother of grandfather was a spy for Switzerland during WW2. Family name got a slight spelling change about that time too. My father, the only one in his family, immigrated to Australia after WW2. So all ties were basically severed.
Grandparents on mother side are Polish. I have no information beyond my grandmother. Grandfather only told me that he and his brothers were engineers. My grandfather met my grandmother while he was the captain for the Polish soccer team (between WW1 and WW2). She told me he was a big show-off and walked onto the field on his hands, and all the girls went crazy. He was a fabulous story teller, and when he told a story at a party all the women gathered around to listen. My grandmother always felt jealous during those times.
My grandfather was a very generous man in both time, work and knowledge. He was for twenty years the chief safety examiner for speedway cars. Most weekends some speedway car would arrive to have something fixed or modified to it at no expanse. He would research and experiment with the cars to get that extra bit of performance out of them. He did the same for model speed aeroplanes. He would build them and let others fly and test them. Though he will get other peoples cars going in top performance, his own car, though operational, was held together by wire and elastic bands. My grandmother could never understand his passion for engineering (or perhaps spending more time with it than with her). Though my grandmother would get upset with my grandfather, he would not fight with her, he would just listen and bare it, then try make up for it.
I am the last apple on this branch of the family tree. As soon as I drop off that branch will die too. It's unfortunate that I have no family to share this story with, except whoever reads this.
