Good morning Brother Christ_empowered, the biggest mistakes I have seen Christians make concerning medications is to think there is no further need of the things in their lives God allowed, and according to scripture it is for their good. Rom 8:28. Could God take the trial away? Surely, but just as with Paul He may leave your thorn in the flesh for purpose. 2Co 12:7-10.

Even your doctors not all possibly being born of God can be used by our Father to show grace toward us, and His power in us. Rom 9:17. Under you present situation please don't make unsupervised changes. Even your parents may notice clues to lead you to making a rational inquiry to your doctors for change.

as always...Thank you, Eugene!

I'm on the meds, and doing...amazingly well, all things considered. I even wrote my parents a short note today, expressing my gratitude for their love, support, and kindness towards me.

I clearly --need-- the meds, and I'm increasingly grateful for modern pharmaceuticals. I don't even have to do blood work w/ my combination, I tolerate it well, and I'm...recovering, as a new creation in Christ Jesus. God is good!

The downside is I'm kind of both up and down right now, and I don't know what to do about it. I have an as-needed sedative, so...maybe I'll take that.

Thanks again, Eugene. :)

I'm kind of both up and down right now, and I don't know what to do about it.
Jas 1:2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations (adversity);
Jas 1:3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.

I might ask if you would seek God as much without the trial to your faith He has allowed? Try examining all of God's prophets, apostles, and disciples, and prayerfully God is not through working in you to will, and to do of His good pleasure. Php 2:13.

What's your opinion?
I suffered from depression and anxiety (severe panic attacks) that came out of nowhere, about 10 years ago. Probably closer to 15. I couldn't function. I had a ton of symptoms. I thought it was temporary and would go off my meds when things got brighter. Big mistake. My doctor was helpful but I needed more so I went to counseling for over three years trying to deal with the darkness. I eventually went to a psychiatrist (on the recommendation of my counselor who is a brother in the Lord) and frankly, she was a Godsend! I've been on medication for all these years but recently went off (thinking that since I'm retired, all is well and I haven't had any problems etc)

I'll probably have to go on them again. I see my Psy in two weeks. I've had recent problems that came unexpectedly. I went off my medication about two months ago.

It runs in the family (depression and anxiety) and about half of my family is on some medication to balance whatever it is that makes our minds depressed an anxious. I have meds for the depression (which I'm currently off) and medication for the anxiety/panic attacks (which I rarely take but in the past month have needed them 4 times! I'll bet in 4 years prior I've needed them maybe once or twice. And that was due to long stints in the dentist chair!

Depression and anxiety suck but it is what it is. Were it not for the drugs, I'd be dead. Mental illness needs to be taken seriously. Chemical run throughout our bodies and sometimes they just don't work right. Just like my high blood pressure meds that help with my heart disease, I need something that balances the chemicals that run the brain. (and lots of healthy living routines - plenty of rest, exercise, eating right, learning meditation techniques, sitting in front of the fire, mellow music (thank you Pandora!) and whatever else helps (I play my guitar a lot - classical music).

OK. The miracle meds are definitely important for me and many other Christians, BUT...where do you draw the line? When does one seek a professinal, when does one stay off the pills, etc.? I just think a lot of people (in general...) are medicated who don't need to be, Christians included.

It has to be up to each individual. I know my body and I know my panics are all in my head (not trying to be funny here) and I also know that I'm not an abuser of drugs. I still have pills that expired in 2013 because I only use anxiety pills if my other techniques don't work (breathing exercises, self-talk, reading the Psalms). I only keep the bottle because it gives me a psychological advantage. I have my most recent meds that expired in 2016. I'll be getting a new prescription. But I'll keep the old pills. It's a mind game I'm willing to play. Just having the drugs and not using them helps me cope. It's odd but it's true. I never take a pill unless it's all I have left. (usually if I wake up in the middle of the night in hot sweats and a panic, I will take a pill for that. If it's during the day, I'll go on a three mile walk).

Meds in general I don't feel are non-scriptural. Jesus took something from the earth and made a healing property from it.

John 9:6

Obviously that doesn't mean cure everything with meds. We also have faith healing also, many examples as we all know.

Why not use the medicine chest God created for us first? I'd recommend any sister or brother prescribed psych meds go on their computer and search out the Physicians Desk Reference. Or just type in the name of the drug prescribed, and then "side effects".
To find if there are natural remedies for this look for, natural remedy _____________________ and insert the name of that prescribed drug.

I have a friend that was in a head on collision last year. It messed up their back and they're very blessed to be alive. Naturally they suffered anxiety being in a car after that. And to this day they're challenged to get behind a wheel as the area where they live is very traffic congested.
They were presecribed an anti-anxiety drug. The doctor said it takes about a month to start working.
After that month , they started to notice the side effects. They had difficulty sleeping, bad dreams, their nerves were shot. And their temper was erratic.
This is why I suggest going on the computer to find out everything you can about any prescription drug for that matter.
After she decided to stop taking this anti-anxiety drug was when she really started to suffer. Because her body was both craving it and cleansing itself of it. Her moods on it were bad enough. Coming off was near unbearable for those who knew her to endure. She was a different person.

Go natural is my advice. Something in your body is naturally akilter and it just makes sense to seek a natural healing back to normal.

Amen!
Many Christian's would say to pray.

Pray AND take a pill !
God made the ingredients with a purpose.

Hi what goes there....

When it's YOUR turn, I'd like you to take your own advice.
Call me and keep me posted on your progress.

Oh. And no aspirin when you have a headache either.

Hostile much?
I don't take asprin. :) I take capsulized white willow bark. Which is natural asprin, and that preceeded the Bayer company logo on the bottle, but is what today's asprin was synthasized from.
And it's what goes here. Not there. Thanks much for getting the name right too.
Oh, and just to mention what for others is obvious, mine is advice, an opinion. Not a commandment.
Hostility is a symptom of something too. Don't throw it at me. Because you quite simply don't have the right. Or my permission.

I don't have may side effects from the med I was taking. There are side effects. Even natural meds have side effects I suppose. I't take them if they'd work. I'm taking a medication for my high blood pressure. it's really helping. But it's bad for my liver. Doc says he's never seen anyone die of liver failure due to the drug but has seen people die of heart disease. "So take the pill," he said. lol. So I do.

Meanwhile, since retiring, I've been dieting (quite seriously) eating right (I check the nutritional value of everything and plan meals) walk three miles a day with the goal of increasing it to 5 a day and I do exercise daily PLUS just bought a Bow Flex - cheap. I've lost 12 pounds and keep going down in small increments (3 lbs a month on average). Teaching my body a new normal. 15 more lbs to go. ;)

Be happy ,
God loves you.
And if you ever get depressed, you could take John's Wort.

Hi PZ
I also have tried natural remedies.
For instance, John's Wort is for depression.
For me it didn't work.
We also tried natural ingredients for my granddaughter (autism) who has problems caused by it.
Unfortunately, those didn't work either...so we gave up on that.

We have to do what we have to do.

Sounds like you're on a good regime for loosing weight.
If it works...write a book !

It's as if you read my mind for the advice I would recommend to you. :) I hope it helps.
I wanted to step back in and add for your sake and anyone else considering St.Johns Wort, to make sure you get "standardized extract" form. Because that's the most concentrated of the medicinal properties of the plant indicated on the label.

And in the case of St.John's, do not take it overlong as it will reverse effects as an anti-depressant and instead cause depression.
And of course, avoid alcohol because that is a depressant, if anyone does suffer this terrible malady.
Again, hope it helps. :)

I hear losing slowly is best and apparently that's what I'm doing. I actually kinda pigged out on Thanksgiving but didn't go for seconds. I dropped .2 lbs and finally went below 170! I haven't seen the sixties for I don't know how many years. Goal is 155 which is within my BMI range. The 3 mile daily walk is good for weight loss, my lower back problems, and my mental health. I live in the Pacific Northwest and have to special walking locations. One is around the lake (which I don't live on:sad and the other in a path through the woods. It's a 1.85 mile pathway but I figured out how to make it 3 miles (it has 3 or 4 loops and I found the right combination).
