Again, it doesn't state that will be the case, only that God is so powerful he is able to.
The point has been made repeatedly that fearing what God is ABLE to do isn't the same as saying what God WILL do.

And when he came into the house, the blind men approached him, and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to him, “Yes, Lord.”
Matthew 9:28 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=Matthew 9:28&version=LEB

And He then proves His ability to heal blindness.

and do not suppose that you can say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham for our father'; for I say to you that from these stones God is able to raise up children to Abraham.

And He then proves His ability to raise up children to Abraham.

and said, "This man stated, 'I am able to destroy the temple of God and to rebuild it in three days.'"

And He then proves His ability to rebuild the body of Jesus.

Mark 8:4 (NASB)
And His disciples answered Him, "Where will anyone be able to find enough bread here in this desolate place to satisfy these people?"

And He proves His ability to find enough food.

Matthew 10:28 (NASB)
"Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Can either of you show any passage(s) where God’s ability to do something is not manifest?

Romans 4:21 (NASB)
and being fully assured that what God had promised, He was able also to perform.

And once again, God’s promised to cast the lost into Hell per Luke’s account of this same conversation, where from Matthew’s account, He’s also able to destroy both the body and soul Hell. I just happen to believe Him.

OK. Where does the Bible say that destruction of a soul renders that soul ceasing to exist?

You're conflating verses that demonstrate action, with a verse that says what God is able to do.

Where is the verse that says that any souls will cease to exist?

To the contrary, we find a number of verses that indicate that there will be an eternity of suffering for unbelievers.

No one has argued against God's ability to destroy a soul, rendering that soul ceasing to exist.

The problem is that there are many verses that indicate that unbelievers will suffer for eternity.

That said, it would be impossible for the soul to cease to exist, because a soul MUST BE conscious to experience suffering.

If a soul ceases to exist, there can be no suffering at all. Which is refuted by Scripture.

Their worm never dies and their fire is never quenched...
Isaiah 66:24
Mark 9:48

Havent read all the posts but some mentioned Lazurus and the rich man...
LUke 16:19-31
JEsus never said this was a parable.....men wrote that in as a subtitle.....

I believe this was a true event Jesus was describing...
And possible refered to marthas brother Lazurus as he was raised from the dead??????

Great verse.

How can "everlasting punishment" be true if one ceases to exist? There is no punishment if all consciousness and existence ceases.

Which is what atheists believe about what happens after physical death.

Ceasing to exist is the everlasting punishment, even satan will be no more...

Ezekiel 28:18
"Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee."

Ezekiel 28:19
"All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more."

There is none.

2 PETER 2:6
If he [God] condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly

God is telling us right here precisely what the eternal fate of ungodly people will be: The utter destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah is God’s example of what will ultimately happen to them. How exactly did God destroy these cities as an example? Why, by burning them to ashes.

We know that this passage is referring to the second death because it states that ungodly people will experience a judgment similar to the incineration of Sodom and Gomorrah and the only time all the ungodly will experience such a fate is at the second death when God will “destroy both soul and body” in the lake of fire (Matthew 10:28).

Jude 7 also speaks of this example of Sodom and Gomorrah:

JUDE 7 (KJV)
Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

As you can see, the Bible clearly states here that Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed by “eternal fire.” Yet, how could this be since the fiery destruction of these cities has long since taken place? This proves that the phrase “eternal fire” refers to fiery destruction that lasts forever and not to eternal torture, as some teach because the fire that destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah has long since gone out, but their destruction remains. As always, the Bible is clear if we simply allow it to interpret itself and resist the temptation to attach our own biased meanings to words and phrases.

God created all of us but that is not the criterion that the Bible gives for being a child of God.

Ah. "First earth age." I'll just leave that alone as that is another discussion entirely.

Thank you for supporting what I was saying, despite you saying it wasn't true. In addition:

Joh 1:12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, (ESV)

Rom 8:15 For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”
Rom 8:16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, (ESV)

There is no becoming a child of God apart from believing and trusting in Jesus.

You became a child of God when He created you..

Job 38:7 "When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for Joy?"

What the Bible Says About Hell:bible

Key Facts About Eternity

(1) Everyone will exist eternally either in heaven or hell (Daniel 12:2,3; Matthew 25:46; John 5:28; Revelation 20:14,15).

(2) Everyone has only one life in which to determine their destiny (Hebrews 9:27).

(3) Heaven or hell is determined by whether a person believes (puts their trust) in Christ alone to save them (John 3:16, 36, etc.).

[paste:font size="4"]Matthew 25:41; Revelation 20:10).

(2) Hell will also punish the sin of those who reject Christ (Matthew 13:41,50; Revelation 20:11-15; 21:8).

(3) Hell is conscious torment.

  • Matthew 13:50 “furnace of fire…weeping and gnashing of teeth”
  • Mark 9:48 “where their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched”
  • Revelation 14:10 “he will be tormented with fire and brimstone”
(4) Hell is eternal and irreversible.

  • Revelation 14:11 “the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever and they have no rest day and night”
  • Revelation 20:14 “This is the second death, the lake of fire”
  • Revelation 20:15 “If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire”
[paste:font size="4"]Hebrews 9:27).

(2) Universalism – All are eternally saved.

Answer: It denies the truth of salvation through Christ which means that a person decides to either trust in Christ or else he/she rejects Christ and goes to hell (John 3:16;3:36).

(3) Annihilationism – Hell means a person dies like an animal – ceases to exist.

Answer: It denies the resurrection of the unsaved (John 5:28, etc. – see above). It denies conscious torment (see above).

[paste:font size="4"]Romans 2:11).

(2) Hell is too severe a punishment for man’s sin.

Response: God is holy-perfect (1 Peter 1:14,15).

[paste:font size="4"]Luke 10:15; 16:23, etc.)
  • Gehenna - A Greek term (borrowed from a literal burning dump near Jerusalem) that alwaysrefers to hell – a place of torment (Matthew 5:30; 23:33)
  • “Lake of fire”- the final abode of unbelievers after they are resurrected (Revelation 20:14,15)
  • “Abraham’s bosom” - (Luke 16:22) a place of eternal comfort
  • “Paradise” - (Luke 23:43) a place of eternal comfort

The soul is not immortal.

I Corinthians 15:53 "For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality."

Through this entire chapter Paul has brought to our attention that we have two bodies within each of us. We have our physical body, which is made up of flesh and blood, and we have our spiritual body which is called our soul. The flesh body will die at some point in time and the spiritual body or soul body that houses or spirit will live on after death. "Mortal must put on immortality" applies only to the soul, for all flesh will be gone at death, or at the sounding of the seventh trumpet. So immortality applies only to the soul body, and even in the incorruptible body the sting of death of that soul is still on it if that soul has not received eternal life. Immortality for the soul in the Millennium age is only one those souls that have eternal live, and did not worship Satan, and take on his name, and the number of the beast.

So the flesh body must be put aside before we put on our incorruptible body that will not age through the entire Millennium age. The Word "Mortal" again means "liable to die". The object of this verse is the body, and the corruptible flesh body must be changed into the body that doesn't grow old. All through this fifteenth chapter we have documented that Christ is a live, and that he lives, and it is for that reason that we are Christians. It would be senseless to be Christians if Christ did not come out of the tomb.

"This mortal must put on immortality," again means that the soul that is mortality must also put on immortality. Christ taught in Matthew 10:25-28.

Matthew 10:25 "It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his Lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more shall they call them of the household?"

It is sufficient that the pupil become like his teacher. Our purpose is to keep on studying to where you can have people rely on what you say. When Christ walked the earth, if they called Him Beelzebub [Satan, or lord of the flies], know also that they will also say that you are of Satan. Jesus is telling us to not worry about it, we will have the victory.

Matthew 10:26 "Fear them not therefore: for there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; and hid, that shall not be known.".

God has already revealed everything that you will face in His Word, and there will be nothing that you will go through that should be a surprise to you. You can expect what is prophesied to come your way, as well as the protection that will be given you by God. The thing that is important is that you are obedient to God's Word, and His Son, and keep committed to serve Him.

Matthew 10:27 "What I tell you in darkness, that speak ye in light: and what ye hear in the ear, that preach ye upon the housetops."

Those things that are revealed to you by your studies, and in the night are the things that you tell others about. Jesus is telling His disciples that those thing that they here Him teaching about, those are the things to tell others about. The "Preaching from the housetops", means "to spread the Word."

Matthew 10:28 "And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear Him Which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell."

Man can kill your body but no man, not even Satan can kill your soul. To "destroy" is to cause you "to perish" or "cease to exist". It is only God that can judge your soul to hell fire and that comes after the judgment day. "Mortal" means "liable to die", and whether your soul dies or not is left up to God's judgment.

I Corinthians 15:54 "So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, "Death is swallowed up in Victory." "

So your soul must put off the physical body, and this soul but be changed from a state of possible destruction by sin, and put on immortality through the shed blood of Christ before this saying can be true. "Death is swallowed up in Victory", when your sins are blotted out and made as they had never been committed. Then we have eternal life in Jesus Christ. There is still death until after the Millennium age.

Why would we need to put on immortality if it was already so?

I said this:
"How can "everlasting punishment" be true if one ceases to exist? There is no punishment if all consciousness and existence ceases.

Which is what atheists believe about what happens after physical death."
Ceasing to exist is the everlasting punishment, even satan will be no more...
If one ceases to exist, there can be NO SENSE of punishment. There is nothing to experience if one does not exist.

I simply cannot understand how that simple fact is being missed by those who believe in annihilation of the soul.

Is it not possible that Ezekiel meant that satan would have no impact to deceive anyone?

In light of Rev 20:10, it is simply futile to claim that Ezel 28:19 means that satan will cease to exist.

"And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever."

So, who "will be tormented day and night for ever and ever" in that verse?

1. the devil
2. beast from 19:20
3. false prophet from 19:20

"But the beast was captured, and with it the false prophet who had performed the signs on its behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped its image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur."

So, Ezek 28:19 cannot mean that the devil will cease to exist.

All you've done is attempt to pit Scripture against Scripture which would mean that Scripture is divided against itself and is internally contradicted.

You became a child of God when He created you..
John 1:12 and Gal 3:26 say otherwise.
1:12 - Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—
3:26 - So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith,

That's what Free was referring to.

Job 38:7 "When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for Joy?"
These "sons of God" are angels who watched God creating the universe.

However, can you see, that is to say "rightly divide", between the "example of Sodom and Gomorrah, where the scripture says the [physical] bodies where burned to ashes, and what Jude states as "eternal fire".

JUDE 7 (KJV)
Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

Eternal destruction, and eternal fire is different than the physical fire that lasted until they were burned to ashes.

IOW, is the fire that brought judgement upon Sodom and Gomorrah, still burning today?

What is the death of the soul?

Yet Sodom is not burning right now

The Bible is very clear that the wicked do Not suffer for ever and ever and ever. In the Bible we repeatedly see that the wicked are destroyed. They will perish, they will be burned up until they will be ashes under the soles of your feet, they will be no more, they will cease to exist, etc. look at the Biblical texts below:

  1. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perishbut have everlasting life. John 3:16
One of my favorite Bible texts about the love of God. Nowhere in that text do we have the idea that the alternatives are to live forever in Heaven or to live forever in Hell. No, the real alternatives are to perish or to have eternal, everlasting life.

  1. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23
The consequence for sin is death, not burning forever. God's gift is eternal life, which is very different from the penalty of sin.

As we look at more verses, we can see that the Bible is consistent with itself.

  1. For evildoers shall be cut off; But those who wait on the LORD, They shall inherit the earth.
  2. For yet a little while and the wicked shall be no more; Indeed, you will look carefully for his place, But it shall be no more.
  3. But the meek shall inherit the earth, And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
  1. But the wicked shall perish; And the enemies of the LORD, Like the splendor of the meadows, shall vanish. Into smoke they shall vanish away. Psalm 37: 9-11, 20.
  1. But the transgressors shall be destroyed together; The future of the wicked shall be cut off. Psalm 37: 9-11, 20, 38.
The wicked will be no more, they will cease to exist, they will perish, they will vanish away. In fact, verse 38 says they will all be destroyed together, in one place, at one time; But the meek, those who wait on the LORD, will inherit the earth and live forever.

  1. As smoke is driven away, So drive them away; As wax melts before the fire, So let the wicked perish at the presence of God. Psalm 68:2.
Again, the wicked will perish like smoke in the presence of God. In the fire they will not burn forever, Instead, they will perish like wax in the fire. This fire is in the presence of God.

  1. May sinners be consumed from the earth, And the wicked be no more. Bless the LORD, O my soul! Praise the LORD! Psalm 104:35.
The wicked will be consumed from the earth and be no more. There will be nothing left of the wicked.

  1. For behold, the day is coming, Burning like an oven, And all the proud, yes, all who do wickedly will be stubble. And the day which is coming shall burn them up, Says the LORD of hosts, That will leave them neither root nor branch.
  2. But to you who fear My name The Sun of Righteousness shall arise With healing in His wings; And you shall go out And grow fat like stall-fed calves.
  3. You shall trample the wicked, For they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet On the day that I do this, Says the LORD of hosts. Malachi 4:1-3.
Malachi makes it extremely clear. The wicked will be stubble. They will be ashes under the soles of the feet of the righteous. In addition we see again that it will happen all at once: Because the Lord says that the day is coming when the wicked will be burnt up, they will be stubble. And we find that this burning has an end because later on God promises that we will trample the wicked since they will be ashes under our feet. He will not keep them burning forever, but He will finish this work. God will burn them up.

  1. Behold, they shall be as stubble, The fire shall burn them; They shall not deliver themselves From the power of the flame; It shall not be a coal to be warmed by, Nor a fire to sit before! Isaiah 47:14.
Isaiah also says the wicked will be stubble. In addition, he says that they will not be able to escape from the fire and the fire will do its job. When it is finished burning, their will not even be a coal or a fire to be warmed up with. The wicked will be entirely consumed by the fire! They will be burned up. So the ashes will be cold for there will not be a fire to sit next to, nor even a warm coal.

  1. The LORD preserves all who love Hims, But all the wicked He will destroy. Psalm 145:20.
All the wicked will be destroyed. They will not survive.

  1. You shall make them as a fiery oven in the time of Your anger; The LORD shall swallow them up in His wrath, And the fire shall devour them. Psalm 21:9.
The fire will devour them and they will be no more.

  1. Behold, all souls are Mine; The soul of the father As well as the soul of the son is Mine; The soul who sins shall die.
  1. The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself. Ezekiel 18:4, 20.
God owns all souls, so He has the right to do what He wants with His people. He has declared that the soul who sins, that person will die, and it will be as though they had never been.

  1. For the day of the LORD upon all the nations is near; As you have done, it shall be done to you; Your reprisal shall return upon your own head.
  2. For as you drank on my holy mountain, So shall all the nations drink continually; Yes, they shall drink, and swallow, And they shall be as though they had never been. Obadiah 1:15-16.
The distruction of the wicked will be so complete that it will be as though they had never existed before

9 Then a third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark on his forehead or on his hand, 10 he himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of His indignation. He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. 11 And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; and they have no rest day or night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name.”

12 Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus. Revelation 14:9-12

  • And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; and they have no rest day or night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name.”

Those who take the mark of the beast will be punished in the lake of fire, and the smoke of their torment will ascend forever, in which they will have no rest day or night.

Obviously these do not cease to exist.

The Bible is very clear that the wicked do Not suffer for ever and ever and ever.
Please provide these so-called "clear" verses.

John 3:16
Nothing here about souls ceasing to exist.

One of my favorite Bible texts about the love of God. Nowhere in that text do we have the idea that the alternatives are to live forever in Heaven or to live forever in Hell.
Yes, we do, and they have been presented.

James described physical death as separation of soul and body in 2:26. Spiritual death is separation from God.

As we look at more verses, we can see that the Bible is consistent with itself.
Of course it is consistent with itself. And it clearly teaches that the lake of fire will be a place of eternal torment.

Please explain how a soul that ceases to exists can even experience eternal torment. Rev 20:10-15

For evildoers shall be cut off; But those who wait on the LORD, They shall inherit the earth.
  1. For yet a little while and the wicked shall be no more; Indeed, you will look carefully for his place, But it shall be no more.
In fact, verse 38 says they will all be destroyed together, in one place, at one time; But the meek, those who wait on the LORD, will inherit the earth and live forever.
just remember that the Bible is internally consistent. And Rev 20:10 refutes your misunderstanding of literal vs figurative uses of words.

Malachi makes it extremely clear. The wicked will be stubble.
So, this is to be taken literally? Really?

Behold, they shall be as stubble, The fire shall burn them; They shall not deliver themselves From the power of the flame; It shall not be a coal to be warmed by, Nor a fire to sit before! Isaiah 47:14.
Isaiah also says the wicked will be stubble.
I see a misunderstanding of what Scripture says. It DOESN'T say "the wicked will be stubble", as you claim. It says clearly that they shall "be AS stubble", which is not the same thing.

God owns all souls, so He has the right to do what He wants with His people. He has declared that the soul who sins, that person will die, and it will be as though they had never been.
I seems you don't understand what "as though" actually means. Which explains why your view is erroneous.

The distruction of the wicked will be so complete that it will be as though they had never existed before
Yes, again, "as though". Which seems to have escaped your understanding.

You've taken figurative and comparative words and forced them into literal meanings.

No dice.

Christ only kills the 7000 angels who came with satan when kicked out of Heaven.
We are all changed at that time ,where those who didn't overcome will be taught the true Word, with no influence from satan as he will be in the pit.

At the end of the millennium when satan is released, those who follow him then, will go into the lake of fire which is the 2nd death, the death of the soul.

What do you think the purpose of the millennium is?

And for that matter, what do you think the tribulation is all about?

Will just say this, and leave it alone.I don't know what kind of God people (people)think we serve, don't know if you have children, I do,our Father loves us a million times plus the love I have for them..

I couldn't see mine suffer for more than a second, and if you all think my Father can, well I think you all have problems

Do you understand forever,I mean how can you be happy in heaven knowing your loved ones who didn't overcome are being tortured day and night forever.

I call that the worst crime in the history of time by all criminals combined

My Father aint like that, that I know for a fact...
