Has anybody read these books or watched these movies before? I'm asking because I just started reading and listening to the book on audio CD. I have seen the movies before too and I thought that they were pretty good. :)

I don't care for sequels.
The first movie is bad enough with the director taking free artistic reigns on what the writer wanted to say.

However, I did see Hunger Games (the original please) and thought it was great.
It wasn't so great as a movie, but it was as a story. I think everyone should see this movie because it seems to me that this is the direction our society is headed.

Seeing a movie like this could give a heads up and make one more aware of the government and what it's doing. Not in a conspiracy kind of way, although that is also a possibility, but sometimes things just naturally head in a certain direction and this movie surely shows this.

I haven't read the book, but I have a strong feeling the movie was true to the writer's ideas.
You could let us know when you've finished reading the original after having also seen the movie.

Alright I will. I just started reading the first book last night and so far I enjoy it. I actually enjoyed all of the movies to tell you the truth. :) Some of it was a bit sad though.

VERY sad!
The rich rule.
And the poor have been made to be at their mercy.

I didn't see the second movie and I really would rather not...

It was sort of based on a true story too I'm afraid. They really did have slaves and then forced them to fight each other to the death for it. :sad

I've read the first book and so far seen the first two movies. Very good, I enjoy them quite a lot.

Actually, the films so far have been some of the best and most accurate adaptations from book to screen I've ever seen.

Highly recommended.

Thanks Nick. I never read the book, but I knew Hunger Games was true to the story just because, precisely, of the story. It was obvious the author meant for us to think about our future.

This is NOT an adventure story, although adventure is in it.
It's a story about freedom. About how none of us are truly free. About how our life depends so much on others; namely, our government. Freedom is an illusion.

Cloud Atlas, which was also a very good movie, more so than Hunger Games, was based on the same theme and one I'm very interested in lately due to how things are going around the globe. Persons are becoming poorer and poorer so that we can become more and more controlled. It almost would seem planned but I'm not a conspiracy person. Maybe it'll just happen from natural causes.

Stories always go to the extreme to make a point. It might not become as bad as in H.G., but it sure looks like we're headed that way with a marked difference between the rich and the poor and the disappearance (almost) of the middle class.

Indeed.

Not only was the story faithful, pretty much everything in the movie was exactly as I had pictured while reading.

Do you suppose I should go ahead and spend two hours watching H.G. II ??
Maybe I should. I'm just worried it won't be good. Sequels rarely are...

I've been so busy lately I forgot to mention that the book I read was really good, and I just ordered the second book from the library, so hopefully that will get me in a reading mood again so I can get back to HP and The Halfblood Prince. :)
