Okay so my health insurance company is now claiming that I can use a teleconference call with a doctor and go right in... same co-pay and I get the drugs I need emailed into the pharmacy for me to pick up.

I dunno how this is going to work.
Aren't they going to get my temperature and blood pressure and weight?
How they gonna look down my throat and in my ears...listen to my lungs?

I don't get it.

They have a system over here that you have weight, blood pressure, blood tests etc done once a year. Repeat prescriptions can be ordered by the pharmacies and they will even deliver them to your home. I Don't have mine delivered I go and pick them up from the pharmacy.

The pharmacy makes a mess every time. I've told them I'm allergic to one of the meds and don't have them anymore. Every month they give me two months supply of my meds. I keep on telling them but the same mistakes are made month after month. I pick my brother's up every month and I have to check he has everything on there before I leave the store. I would live to organize that place.

i see a shrink at the local clinic thru a hi-def webcam. true story. they have a small room dedicated to it. he comes in from a clinic in another part of the state. a nurse does my weight and blood pressure before i go in, and they have me fill out a depression questionnaire. then, he has my prescriptions sent over electronically to the local pharmacy.

its ok. i think it has pros and cons, like anything else.

I'm supposed to do my telle doc over my cell phone using it's video function..

Whatever...

I'm old school...

I still call Small Group Sunday School

I wish it was stuff like that that made people over here go broke over healthcare!

I wonder if they want video of a sore throat?

I imagine there is a border in place, beyond which a MD will not attempt to deliver remote health care. I suspect this has a lot to do with already having an established relationship with "your Doctor," being on file, etc. Which makes me fear this development will do me no good.

Some things can be done on-line, and some things can't. I have a scale, thermometer, and BP monitor at home. I don't really need for someone else to weigh me. I can stand on the scale all by myself.

A sore throat might require a culture to diagnose. They do have home strep kits for sale at pharmacies. If its positive, go into the clinic for a professional culture, and meds. In Mexico, you can go directly to the pharmacy. The pharmacist will look you over, and give you antibiotics for about $3. Much cheaper than spending thousands going to the emergency room for a prescription that you then take to the pharmacist.

They are trying to save money. Health care in the USA costs megabucks compared to every other country on earth. A vial of Acthar costs $38,892 in the USA, compared to $8 in Europe. People are getting desperate.

for a while there, some doctors were using the internet to recruit and keep patients. but...(predictably)...some doctors also ended up prescribing controlled substances, some pharmacies were shut down, some docs lost their licenses, etc. blah.

when i had pronounced hair loss, i found an online dermatologist. it was actually awesome....for about $20, you'd get a prescription for skin and hair stuff. then...the state shut him down, lol. I'm sure he made plenty of $$$. anyway, my hair ended up growing back, anyway...and my skin ended up a lot healthier, without the Rx....but it was still a really cool concept, plus the costs were minimal, compared to going to an in person dermatologist in my area.

TeleDoc seems to be covered by even more insurances. When we needed it once we could not use it because my husband needed to fill out this extensivs health history. Needless to say, we drove to a minute clinic instead.

TeleDoc can only do basic things like assess cold and flu symptoms, some aches and pains, prescribe medications like antibiotics, and perhaps tell you when you should go to your doctor or the hospital.

It is beneficial for stay at home parents that are sick yet have kids (especially if there is no one to watch them while you drive or get a ride to a doctor). Also beneficial if you are home bound for any medical reason. Also if you don't want to infect other patients.
