@farouk , I think so but I really don't know how I would have felt about it then. I don't think it's a big deal. But where I live, in those days, no males had earrings that I know of.

You are quite right; it's not a big deal at all for a young man to have it done. (In theory once they reach 18 they don't need parental permission anyway, although it's kind of nice to know beforehand.)

You said you think you would likely have let him. I think maybe the key is partly in what you said earlier about having used a sterile needle with yours and your daughters': an under 18 young man that is doing it behind the parent's back, so to speak, might not be careful about a sterile needle. And I guess if he's likely to do it anyway, best to let him do it, only to make sure it's in a clean and sterile way, I suppose.

(All sorts of aspects to this subject, isn't there?)

He was an A, B grades student and played basketball and baseball. Sports were consider a privilege in our home. Participation depended on grades and behavior. So did keeping possession your drivers license!

Well, it's not a salvation issue. So if a parent gives permission or not that's their right.
The older girl was over 18. Lexy, however was 16. She did not ask me. She was in the city with "Daddy" when he gave permission and took her. ;)

Well, you just winked...you obviously can think about Lexy getting doubles done and can smile about it either because you quite like the doubles or else you didn't think it was a big deal at all.

(For many teenaged girls, anyway, getting doubles seems almost 'obligatory'; and for a long while now many of their moms and even grammas have gotten doubles, too.)

Interesting how fashion trends go.

@Deborah13 : Well, I guess since some Daddies at the same time have in turn been known to talk Mommie also into getting doubles - particularly if Mommie doesn't need much persuading anyway - it's not the sort of thing to get even remotely upset about, like you said. (Probably warrants another wink, I suppose, but... :chin ) Blessings.

@Deborah13 : Having said the above about the prevalence of multiple earrings, I do also think that there is something rather gently dignified and classic for a woman to have one simple, quality stud in the middle of each lobe. Kind of exudes a lawyer reading her brief in court, or a female military officer in dress uniform.

Kind of becoming, really.

Well I guess it's some kind of an acknowledgment of the dignity for dress uniform that classic single pierced ears reinforces for a woman.

(In the US Navy I think there is even a 'hierarchy' of ear studs: silver for ranks, gold for officers; even the size and shape of the ball studs are prescribed.)

But then I guess the classic twin studs, carefully placed on the lobes, is an established look has its own sedate appropriateness for many women, too, and seems timeless:

Some young men won't have a problem with this; for others it may be more of a problem. If at 18 they have had moms (such as [MENTION=93058]Deborah13[/MENTION] or [MENTION=4376]handy[/MENTION] for example) who probably wouldn't have really minded if sons of their had worn earrings, they might find it a bit harder getting used to the idea of having to be bare lobed once in the military.

Yeah, i've been browsing..haha. Never really left just been quiet. Uhh yeah. I'd have to stick to my opinion. Based off of what i've seen, on guys, they don't make them look any better just more disturbing sometimes. Some of my friends have piercings and I guess they like them but I just don't.

And yeah 18 hopefully will come soon it just takes forever, still have a whole to go but hey, senior year! Whoop!

Thought:

For women, deciding to go for the second pair of pierced holes can be as much of a rite of passage as getting the first pair.

Even though it's very widespread, too.

Seems like although many young men get both ears pierced now, it's less widespread for them to get a second set than it is for women to have them done. (So I guess you are right, [MENTION=82815]Classik[/MENTION], in a manner of speaking...)
