    1000 to 1?

Well, then he was using the square of 1%, not the square root. Using exactly 1% squared gives an even 1,000,000 to 1. Those population figures yield 769,230 to 1 headed to perdition, which is in the same ballpark. A very astounding ballpark. Jay55's comment is looking scary now.

    1000 to 1?

No, squared and square root are not the same, but they are related. In fact, one is the converse of the other. Maybe an example would help: In 3 x 3 = 9, 3 is the square root of 9. 9 is the square of 3.

[__ Prayer __] Prayer Request for Opioid Independence

I did read up on stimulants at your suggestion, and I think next appointment I'll bring up the topic. Man, I'd cold turkey the pain meds if I thought I could stop using them permanently (I've done it twice already). I don't like drugs, I like Jesus!!

    1000 to 1?

The square root of 1% is 10%, is it not? (Although some say √1% also equals 1%).

    1000 to 1?

So it's 10:1 (going to Hell)? If he meant the square of 1%, then it's 10,000:1. Which really sucks, but people who've had hellish NDEs do report numbers that staggering, with lost souls falling like rain.

Pope Francis consoles a boy who asked if his non-believing father is in Heaven

Yes, I realize that. I was addressing people who were wondering how an athiest father could have baptized children. In my case I have a father who is athiest, but a mother who is Roman Catholic.

    1000 to 1?

In my humble opinion the term "near death experience" is a misnomer, propagated by a secular scientific community unwilling to admit the possibility of a consciousness beyond physical death. They want to say these people were never completely dead, and explain their experiences as residual brain...

Pope Francis consoles a boy who asked if his non-believing father is in Heaven

I'm baptized in the Catholic church, and so is my brother and sister; our father is an athiest, but my mother is not.

Yes, but unfortunately we are all wicked when held up to God's standard of perfection. If you've told a single white lie, stolen a candy, looked at someone with lust, took His name in vain, etc., you are a sinner and unworthy to be in His presence. God knew this and came up with an alternate...

    Very Big Important Question

I'm afraid Bill is right. If it came in the mail, vs. your purchasing it at a store, it's a marketing come-on at best, a scam at worst. It probably contains some clever and misleading verbiage. For example, it will say in big block letters, "YOU HAVE WON $25,000!!!". But in small type just...

You won a $25K scratcher? Details? State lottery? Can you post a pic so we can verify?

Hmm, interesting. Didn't know about this one. Wonder if I should give a try.
