'and thru Him to reconcile all thiings to Himself, having made peace thru the blood of His cross; thru Him I say, whether things on earth or things in heaven.'

What does he mean by this heaven part? In my nasb study bible there is a note for heaven that says Lit: the heavens.

I can see He reconcilled humanity to Himself, but since heaven and earth will pass away in the future, and there will be a new heavens and a new earth, don't understand.

What does he mean by this heaven part? In my nasb study bible there is a note for heaven that says Lit: the heavens.
It is literally plural. Paul's describing two heavens here. 1. Physical (visible) and 2. Spiritual (invisible).

Many people think he's being melodramatic (exaggerating, so-to-speak) when he says you were circumcised, buried with Him and raised together with Him. I don't. Just because you can't literally see non-physical things, doesn't mean they are not literal.

Colossians 2:11-14 Colossians 1:16-20 in whom also you were circumcised with a circumcision not made by hands, by the removal of the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, having been buried with him in baptism, in which also you were raised together with him through faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead. And although you were dead in the trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, he made you alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, having destroyed the certificate of indebtedness in ordinances against us, which was hostile to us, and removed it out of the way by nailing it to the cross.
...
because all things in the heavens and on the earth were created by him, things visible and things invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or powers, all things were created through him and for him, and he himself is before all things, and in him all things are held together, and he himself is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that he himself may become first in everything, because he was well pleased for all the fullness to dwell in him, and through him to reconcile all things to himself, by making peace through the blood of his cross, through him, whether things on earth or things in heaven.

since heaven and earth will pass away in the future
This physical heaven/Earthwill, sure.
But the non-physical Heaven (the one where we have been raised with Him), nope!

The scriptures teach us there are three heavens, 2Cor 12!&2. It appears to m e that the first heaven we see in the daytime filled with clouds composed of tons and tons of water, the second heaven is composed of the suns/stars and the occasional planets we see at night, The third Heaven always deserves a capital letter because that is where the only Omnipotent, Omniscient, Omnipresent God is residing at this time. The third Heaven is where the saved of God will spend eternity. It is glorious because it is about as big as half of the United States and when all sin is no more on the Earth, then Heaven will descend and be found on the new Earth.

Praying this will nourish your hungry Soul.

There are three heavens:
First heaven - The firmament, Earths Atmosphere -which is the immediate sky, where the “fowls of the heaven” (Genesis 2:19; 7:3,23; Psalms 8:8, etc.), “the eagles of heaven” (Lamentations 4:19), it is our atmosphere that surrounds the earth.

Second Heaven - Outer Space, the starry heavens (Deuteronomy 17:3; Jeremiah 8:2; Matthew 24:29).
The second heaven is the starry heavens, where our atmosphere ends. It is the heavens in which the sun, moon, and stars are fixed in orbit.

Third Heaven - This is where God, Jesus and the holy angels dwell plus the very breath of just men dwell as when we die it is that breath that returns back to God. It is called “The heaven of heavens,” (Deuteronomy 10:14; 1 Kings 8:27; Psalms 115:16; 148:4). (1Kings 8:27) - “The heavens, even the highest heaven, cannot contain you. The third heaven is beyond the space and stars. Where no man has seen by telescope. This heaven is the dwelling-place of God (John 3:13).

CREATION:

Isa 42:5 Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein:
Jer 10:12 He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heavens by his discretion

DESTRUCTION:

Heb 1:10 And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands:
Heb 1:11 They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment;
Heb 1:12 And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail.

2Pe 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

NEW HEAVENS and NEW EARTH
Isa 65:17 For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.
2Pe 3:13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

Rev 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. 2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. 3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.

The third Heaven always deserves a capital letter because that is where the only Omnipotent, Omniscient, Omnipresent God is residing at this time.

Yes, as well as us who have been (not well be) rescued and transferred there. Who cares if it's invisible now??? Doesn't mean it's not true.

Colossians 1:13-16 who has rescued us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have the redemption, the forgiveness of sins, who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation, because all things in the heavens and on the earth were created by him, things visible and things invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or powers, all things were created through him and for him,

Thankyou for your reply's, but actually my question was
why does he need to reconcile all these things to himself thru the cross? I thought only he needed to reconcile human beings since they have souls ( or spirit, technically,). Did his creation become corrupted thru mans fall? reminds me now of Romans 8:19-22.

Because that's His plan of rescue. God has a covenant with the animals too. His plan all along was to rescue not just humans but all of creation through Christ:

Genesis 8:1-2 Genesis 9:9-10 And God remembered Noah and all the wild animals, and all the domesticated animals that were with him in the ark. And God caused a wind to blow over the earth, and the waters subsided. And the fountains of the deep and the windows of the heavens were closed, and the rain from the heavens was restrained. “As for me, behold, I am establishing my covenant with you and with your seed after you, and with every living creature that is with you—the birds, the animals, and every animal of the earth with you, from all that came out of the ark to all the animals of the earth.

Yes, man allowed themselves to be corrupted and this is why a better new covenant established by Jesus upon His death on the cross gave promise to all who would believe on His name. (Matthew 26:28; Mark 14:24; Luke 22:20; 2 Corinthians 3:6; Hebrews chapters 7 - 10). Paul described the only new ritual of it. (1Corinthians 11:23-30)

Yes mam, that is why the earth will burn up and destroy everything and then God will replenish it and the third Heaven will descend and be established, here, on the earth. And the width, length and height are about the distance from downtown Houston to downtown L.A., California.

It is not a small place and it is filled with rooms for every saint that has ever lived.

I believe that he means that their was enmity between God and mankind and that Jesus is the perfect image of God to mankind and the perfect image of mankind to God which is why he has authority over both heaven and earth. As we know, there were powers in heaven that were against mankind and had God's ear. Revelation 12:10.

How in the world do you get there? Have you, even, considered the plain text and she asked a specific question.

"Heavens" here, IMO, means the universe apart from the earth.
Paul writes in Eph. 6:10-12, that there are enemies of God and us in the heavenly places.
And in Eph. 3:10, we are told, that the church body of Christ, the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places. This will occur after the church is caught up to the heavens.
Then, at the end of God's plan for the ages, there will be peace in the universe, for all things (people, spirit beings) will be reconciled to Himself.

She asked about the 'things in heaven part', regarding reconciling all things through the blood of Jesus both in heaven and earth. Angels are in heaven and so are Satan's angels. Since Revelation shows Satan in heaven accusing the brethren before God day and night, he is obviously there sowing enmity between God in heaven and mankind on earth in the time before the Christ was crucified. So scripture shows that Jesus comes as a man, dies as the sinless lamb of God, so as to destroy the works of Satan who is both the tempter and accuser of mankind.

Another example of this enmity, is in the book of Job, where Satan is seen telling God in heaven that Job only serves Him because God gives him good things in return. Or in other words, Job loves himself and serves God only to get good things from God and preserve himself. That's an accusation. Meanwhile, on earth we see Job's wife telling Job to curse God because of all the suffering that God is inflicting upon Job, despite all of his uprightness. My sense is that it is actually Satan speaking through Job's wife, who is actually tempting Job to curse God, so that Satan can prove to God that even the most upright man is only out for himself. Therefore I see Satan tempting mankind on earth and accusing mankind in heaven.

You really need to speak to whatever you call your teacher before you deal with theological matters. One third of all of the Angels were cast out of Heaven and reside there no more! they are now, because of their sin against God, the demons in Satan's service. Satan as seen in Job is in Heaven daily accusing the faithful but even He was cast out and does not reside there. If you do not have one, get a free copy of e-Sword and download a free copy of it and then from Downloads in the Tool Bar select a free copy of the Naves and do a short study before you lie unintentionally.

Respectfully, I would like to point out that I already know that Satan and his angels were cast out of heaven following the crucifixion of the Christ, it was in the scripture I cited in post#10. I also indicated the same in post #13 when I said this: he is obviously there sowing enmity between God in heaven and mankind on earth in the time before the Christ was crucified.

It does seem that he is talking about the rest of creation being reconcilled in the future, tho we can be now.

And shat I said about the Naves Topical Study Bible stands. If you take my advise, through the scriptures you will learn they were not there even before Adam sinned making my point about study valid. Without constant study none of us are of any real worth as witness'.

Hi Taylor. See you are in southeast Texas. I'm a transplanted Texan. If I may ask, where are you?

I appreciate your advice, but respectfully, I must trust in what I believe the Holy Spirit is teaching me. Perhaps you're referring to the fall of Satan which is a different matter.

Concerning being cast out of heaven, I feel that the scriptures below are quite clear. The reason I believe that Satan was cast out of heaven after the crucifixion of the Christ, is because in verse 5, the man child was caught up to God, which implies the resurrection of our Lord. Then in verse 7, there is war in heaven. In verse 8, Satan and his angels fighting in heaven lose the battle and their place in heaven is no longer found. For verse 9 says that Satan and his angels were cast out into the earth. Since in verse 8, their place was no longer found in heaven, this implies that they did have a place in heaven before being cast out. Then it says in verse 10, that now that Satan is gone from heaven, salvation has come, referring to the power of the Christ, whose power to save is in his sacrificial death and resurrection. Finally in verse 12, it says woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea because the devil has come down to earth, which implies that Satan is trapped on earth and with little time left.

Revelation 12:5-12 King James
5 And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.

6 And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.

7 And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,

8 And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.

9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night
11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

12 Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.

Corroborating scripture:
Hebrews 2:14. John 12:31. Colossians 2:15. Hebrews 9:21.
