John 14:23 "Yahshua answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode (pitch His tent) with him.
14:24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me."

There are so many true Believers in Yahshua Jesus that pay little to nothing of the 1st Covenant (Old Testament) IMO, that's robbing Yahshua of the Glory that's found in the 1st Covenant, that He so wants you to learn about His unconditional love about His Children even though His Children are unfaithful at times.

Please remember that Yahshua Jesus wrote the 1st Covenant and was involved personally from Genesis One to Revelation 22. Many say that the Commands and sayings of Yahshua Jesus were saying in the above two verses were for the Jews only, NOT SO!....
John 1:1 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with Elohim, and the Word was Elohim.
1:2 The same was in the beginning with Elohim.

1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men."

The greatest thing about the 1st Covenant IMO is Yahshua's loving instructions of how to be pleasing to Abba Father's loving instructions about the past and what pleases Elohim (Trinity) and what does not. The major difference from the 1st Covenant from the renewed Covenant (New Testament) is the plan of Salvation.

In the 1st Covenant, the Jews received righteousness by works of the Law. In the Renewed Covenant, righteousness is obtained thru trust and belief in Yahshua Jesus ONLY....

Faith Without Works Is Dead
James 2:14 "What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?
2:15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,
2:16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?
2:17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
2:18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: show me thy faith without thy works, and I will show thee my faith by my works.
2:19 Thou believest that there is one Yahweh; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
2:20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

My main point in this thread is to point out that IMO, there is no reason to to avoid the 1st Covenant (Old Testament), except for righteousness obtained thru works of the Law. The entire 1st Covenant includes YHWH's loving instructions of how to have victory over Satan and his traps. I have learned many wonderful truth's about how Yahshua Jesus responds to a variety of challenges brought on by Israel's enemies.

Remember Yahshua Jesus is the Author of the 1st Covenant by the Ruah ha'Qodesh (Holy Spirit). To disregard the !st Covenant is to disregard the Glory of Yahshua Jesus that is displayed in all His Commands, Sayings, Rules, Statues and loving instructions. To disregard the 1st Covenant, is to only know half of what Yahweh our Elohim thrills to present to His Children to have.

John 14:21 "He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
14:22 Judah saith unto him, not Iscariot, Master, how is it that thou wilt manifest thyself unto us, and not unto the world?
14:23 Yahshua answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
14:24 He that loveth me not keepeth not my sayings: and the word which ye hear is not mine, but the Father's which sent me.
14:25 These things have I spoken unto you, being yet present with you.
14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."

I love all my Brothers and Sisters here at CF.net and simply want you to be extremely blessed by studying Yahshua's entire Word, 1st Covenant and the Renewed Covenant....I am using the oldest Aramaic language so that you all will be blessed in knowing what Yahweh used in inscribing with His finger on the stone tablets, called Otiots, and gave them to Moses.

John 14:28 "Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.
14:29 And now I have told you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe.
J4:30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in me.
14:31 But that the world may know that I love the Father; and as the Father gave me commandment, even so I do. Arise, let us go hence."

Be blessed my friends.

hello Chopper, dirtfarmer here

It is my understanding that obeying the law had nothing to do with salvation, but was necessary for fellowship to those that were born Hebrews and proselytes. The applying of the blood on the door post, by faith, while they were in Egypt is what separated the Hebrews from Egypt(a type of the world). The crossing of the Red Sea(baptism) is the point of separation and began their journey to the promised land. God led them by a pillar of fire by night and a pillar of smoke by day. The law was given to Moses in the wilderness of Zen. When they broke the law it was their fellowship that was hindered, not their relationship. They were still Hebrews, just out of fellowship with God.

The Old Covenant should be thoroughly studied by Christians; not to try and keep all 613 laws, but to better understand God's holiness to which Christians are called.

But we also need to realize that no one can keep the law.

That's why Jesus gave us the "new commandment" to love one another ( Jhn 13:34; Jhn 15:12; Jhn 15:17 ) and Paul told us "... he who loves another has fulfilled the law. (Ro 13:8b)

Thank you for again pointing to the truth that Faith without works is dead.
Jesus gave very explicit examples of what kind of works He is looking for at Mat 25:31-46.

Good post!

Thank you my good friend Jim. The fact that no one could obey the Law. The Law pointed all sinners to the One and only One who could, the sinless Son of Yahweh our Elohim. Thank you so much for your needed reply.

Love You,

Deuteronomy 4:29-31
But if from thence thou shalt seek the Lord thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul. When thou art in tribulation, and all these things are come upon thee, even in the latter days, if thou turn to the Lord thy God, and shalt be obedient unto his voice; (For the Lord thy God is a merciful God;) he will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them.

We are to obey His commands and sayings, we are to obey the Voice of His Spirit; But does that mean we are to continue to obey the ten commandment that were engraved in stone? Or all the other laws and saying that were imprinted with ink?

I was on vacation last year driving through the Bay area, as I happened to look down at my navigation system, I noticed that the path that I followed naturally lead me through a mountain where my road-map said there was no road. Why according to the sayings of my navigation system, I had drifted off the path by quite some distance, but the way was clear before me as I passed through the mountain. Was I to trust in what I saw? Or should I have followed the road-map in my car?

When we look at the First commandment, did you know that the Lord changed it?

I do agree with you. The whole of scripture describes God and His heart.
It struck me a few days ago, Jesus made friends with the disciples and shared His heart with them.
God said, this is me, how I wish things to go and be. Not surprisingly once they had seen who this man
was, how he talked and behaved and then who He actually was, there was no stopping them.
God become man, who rejected recognition and false attempts to be acknowledged, is such an encouragement
to all of us who desire similar things.

I always wondered how we could obey the command to love God with everything we are and our neighbour as
ourselves until we see who God is, worthy of such praise, and our neighbours, as needy and flawed as us but
with the potential to find the King and life itself.

It is only sin and hurt that holds people back from following and knowing God and rejecting His heart, yet
even "believers" sometimes seem more stubborn than unbelievers to face their emotional and spiritual needs.

Exodus 20:3 "Thou shalt have no other elohim before me.
20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:
20:5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I Yahweh thy Elohim am a jealous El, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

20:6 And showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments. (Word of Yahweh).

Exodus 20:3 "Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

Could you please explain the change?

The difference between "the law" written on tables of stone and the fleshy heart is the tables of stone were broken before they were ever given to the Israelites. The tables of stone gave no provision for accomplishing what they required. Man was not able to obey them and still cannot obey them. Jesus Christ came in the flesh and completely fulfilled them all, even to the point of baptism. Only when we die to self in Christ and our spirit is separated from our soul and made conscious by the power of the Spirit of God, do we become a being led by the Spirit of God. It is by that life in Christ that fulfilled the law, that now live through us by faith, do we keep the whole council of God. It is accomplished by faith, not we ourselves, but Christ that lives in and through us.

Be blessed my friends.

The first Covenant that Jesus made, which includes Gentiles is found in Genesis 17.

When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless. 2 And I will make My covenant between Me and you, and will multiply you exceedingly.” 3 Then Abram fell on his face, and God talked with him, saying: 4 “As for Me, behold, My covenant is with you, and you shall be a father of many nations.
Genesis 17:1-4

Later, because of transgression, the law was added to this Covenant until the Messiah, the Seed should come and nail the law to the cross.

What purpose then does the law serve? It was added because of transgressions, till the Seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was appointed through angels by the hand of a mediator.
Galatians 3:19

The Abrahamic Covenant which Jesus made with Abraham before He became flesh, became the New (Renewed) Covenant with His own blood that He shed.

Abraham walked with Jesus and obeyed His Voice and kept His commandments and laws, leaving us an example of the life that loves and pleases the Lord, being called a friend of God.

because Abraham obeyed My voice and kept My charge, My commandments, My statutes, and My laws.” Genesis 26:4

I can only speak from my experience with God and what scripture says. I'm not going to post scripture because it is there and I'm feeling extremely lazy today.

We "believers" are Abraham's seed. We have the faith of our Spiritual father which means we also would believe in the Christ that has come into the world.

As humans we could never keep all of the law, so the Christ has come to uphold the law in his flesh. Only Jesus has been able to achieve this.

Now, if you have been given the Christ's Spirit (Holy Spirit)..........you will have power over the flesh. He will give you the strength to walk holy. There are many areas of my life in which he has given me grace to walk as Christ walks, and I know the areas where I personally need to trust him more, but he is changing me into the image of Christ.

Will someone who is Spirit filled looks exactly the same as they always have? From experience, No
Your actions should start to reflect Christ.

Thank you Edward for the "like" on my thread. You and I go way back and you were one of first to encourage my participation here at CF.net. I needed it then, and still need it now. I really have enjoyed your "down to earth" comments, reply's and threads. I'd really like to see more from you. I've always liked what comes from your heart

My dear beloved went traveling into a far country, sent off to speak the Voice of Words; And while he was gone he sent to me letters of instruction, letters of encouragement, letters of wisdom and inspiration. My beloved's letters read to me like a book, and at times I felt like I was there with him, like a character in a well written novel. While my beloved was away, his letters to me were my life and I would read them again and again, savoring his every word, even his promise to return.

But then something terrible did happen, for while my beloved was in this far off country, the Voice of Words was again rejected, only this time they did not turn their backs to him and draw away as cowards, but instead the people mocked him and ridiculed him, even putting my Lord to death. Killing him; taking my beloved from me.

Then more letters came, telling me of the things they saw my beloved do, and the things they heard him say. They were letters from his friends. And I added those letters to the letters from my beloved, because they spoke fondly of him. I cherished those words and memories, holding fast to the promise that I would again be with my beloved in the afterlife.

But in those letters from the friends of my beloved was something unexpected, and I thought they were just trying to comfort me with words of hope; because after that they had taken my beloved from me, his trusted friends and companions swore to me that he was not dead, that he had risen and they had seen him with their own eyes; they told me not to worry, that I should believe them, and fear not, because my beloved would return again to me.

But soon after, the letters from the friends of my beloved ceased to come, and my hope began to wane, as word came that they too had been killed. Their words and the words of my beloved still comforted me, and I trusted that I would again see my beloved in the afterlife; but in his letters to me, he reminded me in his absence to not despair, but take some time and enjoy the fruits of the garden. But as time went by his memory began to fade, and the garden my beloved planted for me became my garden instead of his; But in his letters I still hoped for his return.

Then one day I heard the voice of my beloved call to me, and I thought it were as a dream. And night by night he called to me, watering his garden with the dew. And when I saw the garden as I knew it once before, my beloved had returned to me, as his father had promised once before. But I was broken and beaten down, and somewhat ashamed of how I let his vine grow. But my beloved still believed in me, he cared for me, he nourished me, and restored my soul; in the presence of his return my beloved gave to me a new spirit of life. He said unto to me what has been is in the past, you need no more letters to make it last; together again in the garden of my Lord, he said let's sing and dance together, for I will teach you a new song......

When we look at the First commandment, did you know that the Lord changed it?

Could you please explain the change?

The First Commandment as written...

Exodus 20:2-6
I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

Jeremiah 31:27-33
Behold, the days come, saith the Lord,
that I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah
with the seed of man, and with the seed of beast.
And it shall come to pass, that like as I have watched over them,
to pluck up, and to break down, and to throw down,
and to destroy, and to afflict;
so will I watch over them, to build, and to plant, saith the Lord.
In those days they shall say no more,
The fathers have eaten a sour grape,
and the children's teeth are set on edge.
But every one shall die for his own iniquity:
every man that eateth the sour grape,
his teeth shall be set on edge.

Behold, the days come, saith the Lord,
that I will make a new covenant
with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers
in the day that I took them by the hand
to bring them out of the land of Egypt;
which my covenant they brake,
although I was an husband unto them, saith the Lord:
But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel;
After those days, saith the Lord,
I will put my law in their inward parts,
and write it in their hearts;

and will be their God,
and they shall be my people.

Why the Lord didn't just change the first commandment, He changed entire Covenants.

The ten commandment were received by Moses to give to the people in the sight of he glory of the Lord as the voice of words spoke from the midst of the cloud of fire. The 10 commandments are part of the covenant with made Death as it was revealed from the Glory of the Lord in a mountain of fire. To serve the law is to serve Death, for the end of the Law and the fulfillment of the Law is found in Death.

But Christ has become the end of the Law for those who believe, for he has become Death, that we might stand in the presence of the Glory of the Lord and Live. The 10 commandment were breathed for them from the fire and flame, but the Law of Christ as is came forth from Zion began with the 10 blessings as received in the morning dew. All were baptized into his death, but not all are written in the Lamb's book of Life. They have not believed the account, and the glory of the Lord remains hidden from them; But in the second death, the Glory of the Lord shall be made known to them, and this time there is no backing away.

I think it is important to understand what the OLD Covenant is in order to correctly appreciate what the NEW Covenant is. This may make a good topic as everything here is linked in one. Thanks for your thoughts.

Consider please, that there really is ONE Covenant, the First Covenant that pointed to a Redeemer because it was impossible to obtain righteousness but pointed to the Redeemer in the Renewed Covenant Who would. Please watch this video by Alan Horvath www.youtube.com/watch?v=hF0A4PROiH0 who will set this issue straight with the Truth....If you dare!

If he is teaching that the Abrahamic Covenant is the Renewed Covenant then,
Amen.

Chopper, I took the time to listen to this video, and I listened to part of a different one. I shouldn't have to remind that you that it is not wise to glory in another man. If you receive edification from him, then give your praise to the Lord for what you have gained. But I am sorry to say that I found no real edification in his teaching. Maybe it's just me and I cant help it, but I was kind of turned off by his overuse of BIG words, trying to throw in Hebrew pronunciations for anything he quotes; but I found him not saying much at all. I believe like Paul and prefer the simple words. After all, Jesus said be ye as little children: and little children understand simple words.

You also stated that there really is only ONE covenant, but that is not what the gentleman in the video suggested. I gathered from watching the video that he does believes in a second covenant, he just doesn't think we are under this second covenant yet. If I understood what he was trying to say, then he was trying to promote the idea that the Old Testament and the New Testament were both Testaments of the same covenant made with Moses, only he tries to present the New Testament as a renewed covenant instead of a New Covenant. The ONE Covenant that truly matters is the Covenant that the Lord made with Abraham, and one could not call that covenant renewed because it was not confirmed until it was confirmed with the blood of Christ upon the cross.

Now since we are talking about covenants, I will say something that I am sure you will not understand, but as you dared me to listen to the video, I only ask you to take some time and consider the matter in your heart before you respond. According to the flesh, I walk with the Lord according to the Covenant confirmed in Christ. But I must tell you in all reality, I feel like I am under no covenant at all. So please hear me out. I am my Father's Son. Does a son need a Covenant to be a Son to his Father?

Adam was created a Son of God. Did Adam have a covenant with his Father? If he did it was one based upon Faith. For Adam was told of every tree in the garden he could eat from, what ever his soul lusted after or desired, it was his. Every tree: Only do not eat of the tree of the Knowledge of Sin, or you will shall know DEATH. But Covenant the the Lord made with man, whether it was the covenant made with Moses or the one sworn to Abraham, both of those covenants were about REDEMPTION from DEATH. Both of those Covenants offered the promise of LIFE under the conditions of the IF that were contained therein. The Covenant with Moses promised blessing and curses that came with the conditional IF. The Covenant made with Abraham and confirmed in Christ promised everlasting life IF you believe in Jesus Christ and follow his commands. Both covenants placed a conditional IF on achieving redemption and everlasting LIFE. But if you are in Christ and have overcome Death, so that Death has no more power over you, then what more covenant do you need?
