I think that is a great post Papa, that shows all the 10 commandments repeated in the NEW Testament. However God's Word does not say the 4th Commandments is any day of the Week. It clearly says it is the 7th day of the week. This is the day that Gods' has blessed and made a holy day and no work is to be done on it. It is a day to worship and remember the only true God of creation and to do good as Jesus taught all.

Exodus 20
8,
Remember the SABBATH DAY, to KEEP IT HOLY. <Why?> Because God made it Holy for mankind and commands us to keep it as a Holy day)
9, Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:
10, But the SEVENTH DAY IS THE SABBATH of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: <WHY?>
11, For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

God says that it is a specific day which is the 7TH DAY OF THE WEEK that he has made to be a HOLY DAY. Jesus says it was made Holy in the creation week for mankind. All scriptures connect and are in harmony. Genesis where God made the Day a HOLY DAY; God’s 4th commandment to His people that says to REMEMBER the Sabbath day to KEEP it a HOLY DAY and Jesus stating that the Sabbath was made for MANKIND (Human beings; male and female).

The 4th commandment is the "Lord's day" that Jesus made for mankind. The was the day that John was in the Spirit in the book of Revelation (1:10). God's Word says that the Lord's Day is the Sabbath day not Sunday....

Matthew 12
8,
For the Son of man is LORD EVEN OF THE SABBATH DAY.

Can anyone show a scripture that says that Sunday is the Lord's day?

..........

God's 4th commandment is one of the ten (Exodus 20:8-11) and like any of the ten, if we knowingly break it when God asks us not to we stand guilty before God of committing sin (James 2:8-12). If we do not seek him in repentance and forgiveness we are in danger of the Judgement (Hebrews 10:26-27)

There is not one scripture in ALL of God's WORD that says God's 4th commandment is now ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to worship God on Sunday in it's place.

Sunday worship is a tradition and teaching of man that has lead many to break the commandments of God. Jesus says that if we follow the traditions of man that break the commandments of God we are not following God (Matthew 15:3-9)

Who should we follow the teachings and traditions of men or the Word of God? Who should we believe the Words of men or the Word of God?
So, when you "keep the Sabbath" do you adhere to ALL of the following Sabbath commands of the LORD?
(The question requires a "yes" or "no" answer. If the answer is "no" THEN offer clarification.)

EX 16:29-30 Bear in mind that the LORD has given you the Sabbath; that is why on the sixth day he gives you bread for two days. Everyone is to stay where he is on the seventh day; no one is to go out." So the people rested on the seventh day.
Don’t travel on the Sabbath.

EX 20:8-10 Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates.
1. Don’t you or anyone in your household do any work on the Sabbath.
2. It also includes animals which have been replaced by cars, trucks, tractors, busses, airplanes, trains, etc., So don’t work and don’t use a motor vehicle on the Sabbath.

EX 31:14-17 Observe the Sabbath, because it is holy to you. Anyone who desecrates it must be put to death; whoever does any work on that day must be cut off from his people. For six days, work is to be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day must be put to death. The Israelites are to observe the Sabbath, celebrating it for the generations to come as a lasting covenant. It will be a sign between me and the Israelites forever, for in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day he abstained from work and rested.
1. The seventh day is for rest; do not work on the Sabbath.
2. Israelites are to observe the Sabbath. (not gentiles, Israelites)
3. The Sabbath is a sign between God and Israel. (That’s Israel; not gentiles - So, if someone wants to keep the Sabbath according to God’s word then the men need to be circumcised.)
4. God abstained from work and rested on the 7th day and Israel is to do the same.
5. Kill anyone who works on the Sabbath. (Maybe just members of your household)

EX 35:1-3 Moses assembled the whole Israelite community and said to them, "These are the things the LORD has commanded you to do: For six days, work is to be done, but the seventh day shall be your holy day, a Sabbath of rest to the LORD. Whoever does any work on it must be put to death. Do not light a fire in any of your dwellings on the Sabbath day."
1. The command concerning keeping the Sabbath Holy came from the LORD not from Moses.
2. Rest on the Sabbath and do no work.
3. Do not light a fire in your dwelling on the Sabbath. (Furnace, oven, light bulb)

LEV 23:3 There are six days when you may work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of rest, a day of sacred assembly. You are not to do any work; wherever you live, it is a Sabbath to the LORD.
DT 5:12-14 Observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy, as the LORD your God has commanded you. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your ox, your donkey or any of your animals, nor the alien within your gates, so that your manservant and maidservant may rest, as you do.

Don’t use any utility (electricity, gas, internet, telephone, etc.) or public service (roads, police, radio, TV, bus, etc.) because that requires someone to work on the Sabbath in order to provide the service.

To all in the thread.

I haven’t been able to find any New Testament scriptures that specify any particular way we are to observe the Sabbath today.

Does anyone have a NT scripture that teaches us specifically how the Sabbath is to be observed?

I have posted Romans 14 and Colossians 2 that deal with the Sabbath but these offer no prescribed manner in which to observe.

Thanks JLB

I might have posted this before

The Sabbath talked about in Genesis 2:1-3 and Exodus 20:8-11 is Gods day of rest from all the work you accomplished that week. God hand wrote the commandment on tablet of stone as a day to keep holy in remembrance of all He created that was good and rested from all His work. It wasn't that God was tired, but that in a sense it's like taking a day off to do nothing as you finished your work for the week.

In Matthew 12:1-13 the Pharisees tried to accuse Jesus and His disciples of breaking the Sabbath and working that day as the disciples pluck some corn to eat while they were walking with Jesus in the field and that Jesus healing on the Sabbath, especially in the synagogue, was that of works, but Jesus told them it was lawful to do good on the Sabbath, which is different then working.

Jesus told them it was lawful to do good on the Sabbath, which is different then working.

It’s lawful, however it is work.

That’s the point.

11 Then He said to them, “What man is there among you who has one sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will not lay hold of it and lift it out? Matthew 12:11

It is work, plain and simple to deal with livestock that has endangered themselves.

The point is there are contingencies for emergencies.

Hello Jim, nice to see you again.

Sorry for the slow reply. I could not log in for somtime then had other things to attend to.

Thanks for your post. Great questions. I am happy to provide a YES/NO answer and if NO provide a reason why by the GRACE of him who LOVES US. I may have to post in a few parts to cover all your scriptures. Hope it is ok?

So, when you "keep the Sabbath" do you adhere to ALL of the following Sabbath commands of the LORD? (The question requires a "yes" or "no" answer. If the answer is "no" THEN offer clarification.)

ANSWER: YES AND NO

Firstly YES this scripture is why we have a preparation day before the 4th commandment Sabbath day. On this day all shopping and preparation BEFORE the Sabbath is to be made including preparing the food to be eaten on the Sabbath day.

Secondly, NO. The scripture CONTEXT is about collecting MANNA on the Sabbath and that God's people were not to go out on the Sabbath day to collect MANNA (v16-28). The scripture does not mean that God's people cannot go out on the Sabbath to do other things and must stay in their homes.

Jesus is our example in all things.

And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read (Luke 4:16).

Paul did the same as did most of God's people.

Act 1:12
Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day's journey.

Act 13:14
But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down.

Act 13:27
For they that dwell at Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor yet the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath day, they have fulfilled them in condemning him.

Act 13:42
And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath.

Act 13:44
And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God.

Act 15:21
For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath day.

Act 16:13
And on the sabbath2 we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither.

Act 17:2
And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,

Act 18:4
And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.

Ok too many scriptures........ We can go out on the Sabbath but cannot go out on the Sabbath to WORK.

2. It also includes animals which have been replaced by cars, trucks, tractors, busses, airplanes, trains, etc., So don’t work and don’t use a motor vehicle on the Sabbath.

ANSWER: NO

We do not do any work on cars, trucks, tractors, busses, airplanes, trains, etc we obey the Sabbath according to God's 4th Commandment as God guides us through FAITH and LOVE. NO houswork, and not working on cars and trucks, tractors and buses, airplanes, trains, etc.

The 4th commandment does not say anything about travel as shown in the scriptures used in the previous answer to your first scripture. No business transaction (shopping) are allowed however as this is business or work. If it was an emergency for some reason and someone life was threatened it would be lawful to do good on the Sabbath which Jesus made for all mankind.

ANSWER: NO

This scripture you refer to is a part of the CIVIL LAW of Israel under the OLD Covenant. We are in the NEW Covenant. If you are not a part of God's Israel you are not a part of the NEW Covenant.

Who are God's Israel?

"Israel" is only a name given by God himself to represent his people. The origin of the name "Israel" come from Genesis 32:28 where Jacob wrestled with the Angel and prevailed ...for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed. Its meaning is his posterity will rule as God. Jacob had 12 sons representing the 12 tribes of Israel.

Israel is only a name given by God that represents God's people and today anyone who is following Jesus is part of God's Israel according to God's Word.

What does God's Word say.....................................…

Let God be true and every man a liar that thou might be justified in thy sayings, and might overcome when thou art judged.

Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He says not, and to seeds, as of many; but as of one, AND TO YOUR SEED, WHICH IS CHRIST (Galatians 3:16)

Abraham’s seed is Israel............................................

THERE IS NEITHER JEW NOR GREEK, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: FOR YOU ALL ALL ONE IN CHRIST JESUS AND IF YOU BE CHRISTS, THEN YOU ARE ABRAHAM'S SEED FOR YOU ARE ALL ONE IN CHRIST JESUS and IF YOU BE CHRISTS, THEN ARE YOU ABRAHAM'S SEED, AND HEIRS ACCORDING TO THE PROMISE (Galatians 3:28).

No explanation needed, believe God's Word, and again..........................

FOR THEY ARE NOT ALL ISRAEL WHICH ARE OF ISRAEL,: NEITHER, BECAUSE THEY ARE THE SEED OF ABRAHAM, ARE THEY ALL CHILDREN: but in Isaac shall thy seed be called <Christ> That is, THEY WHICH ARE THE CHILDREN OF THE FLESH, THESE ARE NOT THE CHILDREN OF GOD: BUT THE CHILDREN OF THE PROMISE <those who believe> ARE COUNTED FOR THE SEED (Romans 9:6).

FOR HE IS NOT A JEW WHICH IS ONE OUTWARDLY; NEITHER IS THAT CIRCUMCISION, WHICH IS OUTWARDS IN THE FLESH: BUT HE IS A JEW WHICH IS ONE INWARDLY; and CIRCUMCISION IS OF THE HEART, IN THE SPIRIT, AND NOT IN THE LETTER; whose praise is not of men, but of God. (Romans 2:28-29)

Believe the scriptures........................................ ..........................

Galatians 3:28-29,
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Colossians 3:11,
Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.

Romans 10:11-13,
For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Romans 2:28-29,
For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

The New Covenant is for God's Israel..........................

Jeremiah 31:33-4,
But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, says the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people. And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, says the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

Hebrews 8:10-12,
For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: And they shall not teach every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for all shall know me, from the least to the greatest. For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

Hebrews 10:14-17,
For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before, this is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; and their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.

Galatians 3:29,
And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise

The New Covenant is for God's Israel which represent God’s followers the believers. If you are not part of God's Israel you are not part of the New Covenant (Hebrews 8:10-12).

God's Israel are those that believe the Word of God and follow it. This is the NEW Covenant of God's LAW written on the HEART by FAITH in His WORD and is why Jesus says If you love me keep my commandments (John 14:15) which includes the 4th Commandment which is one of the 10 Commandments.

YES and NO

This scripture is in CONTEXT is in reference to using FIRE to WORK on God's Sabbath which required WORK. If it is in relation to keeping warm from the cold and all the preparation is completed BEFORE God's Sabbath and the fire is started the wood cut and no work is needed of course it is ok to have a fire going on the Sabbath because it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath which is made for man not man for the Sabbath.

We are also not under the CIVIL LAWS of Israel and are in the NEW Covenant and do not put people to death for breaking any of God's Commandments. Including most of the other of God's 10 commandments were the same death penalty was required (Not just the 4th Commandment) under the CIVIL law of Israel.

YES we follow the scriptures but not your interpretation of the scripture posted underneath the scripture.
We follow God's Commandment by Faith through LOVE because we BELIEVE and FOLLOW Him who calls us. Jesus taught it is lawful to do Good on God's Sabbath. It is not lawful to follow man made traditions that make the Sabbath a burden and make man for the Sabbath. The Sabbath was made for man not man for the Sabbath.

Hope this help...

Hi FHG, very good point you bring up here. Indeed the Pharasees placed so many man made teaching around Sabbath keeping that it made it a burden for the people to follow insrtead of being a DELIGHT they way God had intended. That is what Jesus came to teach regarding the Sabbath in the NEW Testament that it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath and that Jesus is Lord of the Sabbath and he made it for mankind to be a delight not the man for the Sabbath.

Thanks for the great insight and for sharing your thoughts.

May God bless you are you continu in His Word.

If the whole chapter or book of Romans does not even mention God's LAW, the 4th commandment of the 7th day Sabbath of God's LAW why do you think it is talking about God's LAW (10 commandments)?

Here is the context to Chapter 14.

8 Owe no one anything except to love one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law. 9 For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,” “You shall not murder,” “You shall not steal,” “You shall not bear false witness,” “You shall not covet,” and if there is any other commandment, are all summed up in this saying, namely, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 10 Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. Romans 13:8-10

  • therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

Amen, Galatians 5:22-23
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

There is no law in love or any other fruit of the Spirit.

As a note....
The law never justified but pointed out sin....
In The OT the law pointed to the tabernacle and blood atonement where God forgave sins through prayer as it pointed to the blood of the lamb

Now JBL, you are a funny indeed.

If you have not opened any case to start with or adressed any of the posts and scriptures provided to you, how can it be that you have closed a case?

The whole book of Romans talks about many topic. However even in the whole book of Romans God's 4th Commandment is not mentioned. The 10 commandments however are mentioned all through the book of Romans as is the Mosaic book of the law which together make up the Old Covenant.

You claim that Romans 13 is the CONTEXT of Romans 14 and yet two completely different topics are being discussed.

Please by all means show how Romans 13 is Context to Romans 14 and how you interpret them in saying God's 4th Commandment has been Abolished and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a Holy day in it's place?......... Look forward to your answer :)

In fact Romans 13 only supports what I have been sharing with you from the start and that is LOVE is the FULFILLING of God's LAW in those who by FAITH walk in God's Spirit and is why Jesus says.........

On these two Commandments (LOVE to GOD and MAN) HANG ALL THE LAW AND THE PROPHETS..

and again......

IF you LOVE me KEEP my COMMANDMENTS...

....................

There is not one scripture in all of God's Word that says that God's 4th Commandment is now ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to KEEP Sunday as a Holy day.

God's 4th commandment is one of the ten (Exodus 20:8-11) If we knowingly break it when God asks us not to we stand guilty before God of committing sin (James 2:8-12). If we do not seek him in repentance and forgiveness we are in danger of the Judgement (Hebrews 10:26-27)

May God bless you as you seek him through His Word.

Absolutely and great comment Tt.

This has been my point all the way through this thread. God's LAW (10 commandment) makes nothing perfect. It is the KNOWLEDGE of SIN and RIGHTEOUSNESS (Good and EVIL if broken).

We are only saved by GRACE through FAITH and not of ourselves it is a GIFT of GOD and not of WORKS lest any man should boast.

However if our FAITH does not have the FRUIT of OBEDIENCE to God's LAW (10 Commandments) we are still in our SINS and do no know him who calls us because we have rejected the GIFT of God's dear son.

SIN is the transgression of God's LAW (1 John 3:4) The purpose of God's Law (10 Commandments), is to give us a KNOWLEDGE of SIN and RIGHTEOUSNESS (Romans 3:20; 7:7; James 2:11; 1 John 3:4). If you have no KNOWLEDGE of SIN you have NO NEED of a SAVIOUR. IF you have NO NEED of s SAVIOUR you have NO SALVATION. IF you have NO SALVATION you are lost and still in your SINS and do not KNOW him who calls you (1 John 2:3-4) because SIN is the transgression of God's LAW (10 Commandments) and those who KNOWINGLY practice SIN will not enter into the KINGDOM of HEAVEn because they have rejected the GIFT of God's dear son (Romans 6:23; Hebrew 10:26-27).

God's LAW (10 Commandments) are the schoolmaster to show us who we really are. SINNERS in need of a Saviour. If you have lost or broken your mirror how can you see who you are or know him who calls you? Jesus says; They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick. But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. Many do not know the meaning because their mirror is broken or lost.

Great comment and thanks for sharing Tt

May God bless you as you seek him through His Word.

Still waiting for the NT scriptures that teach us how to observe the Sabbath under the New Covenant.

Let me know when you have one.

Until then any attempt to observe the Sabbath is man made.

Look forward to your replay.

We must ask our heavenly farther to have eyes to see and ears to hear so that we can know his Words that he freely give to all who come. He is knocking at the door. Who will open the door and let him in?

Whosoever commits sin is a servant of sin to sin indeed. If the son shall make you free you shall be free indeed. Jesus says; Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

Whosoever abides in him sins not: whosoever sins hath not seen him, neither known him. Little children, let no man deceive you: he that does righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.

He that commits sin is of the devil; for the devil sins from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. We are sinners indeed but we have a Saviour for those that our Heavenly father have given ears to hear and eyes to see. If you have lost or broken your mirror how can you see yourself and him who calls you? If your lamp has gone out, how will you find your way when it is dark and the road is narrow?

Sorry friend we may need to agree to disagree on your interpretation of the scriptures :)

You cannot disregard the OLD Testament scriptures that are the foundation of the NEW Testament. The NEW Testament is built on the Old Testament and together they are the Word of God. Do you disagree? Please state your reason and your supporting scriptures.

The scriptures shown earlier are all from the NEW Testament in regards to God's Sabbath, with instruction that builds on the OLD Testament Scriptures that have already beren given (Exodus 20:8-11).

In the NEW Testament Jesus taught us that;

1. God's Sabbath was made for Mandkind and he is the LORD and the God of CREATION (Mark 2:27-28). This is NEW Testament scriopture not revealed in the OLD Testament but builds on the OLD Testament scriptures and is NEW information. Do you disagree? Please state your reason and your supporting scriptures.

2. Jesus also teaches us that it is indeed lawful to do GOOD on the Sabbath (Matt 12:1-8; 10-12; 24:20; Mark 3:1-5; Luke 6:1-10; 13:14-16; 14:1-5; John 7:22-23; 9:14; Mark 1:21; Mark 6:2; Luke 4:16; 31; Luke 14:1; 23:56) and we are not to be budened by man made teaching around God's Sabbath because the Sabbath was made for mankind to be a delight not a buden. This is NEW Testament scriopture not revealed in the OLD Testament but builds on the OLD Testament scriptures and is NEW information. Do you disagree? Please state your reason and your supporting scriptures.

3. Jesus is our example who kept the Sabbath as well as all those who followed him (Matt 12:1-8; 10-12; 24:20; Mark 3:1-5; Luke 6:1-10; 13:14-16; 14:1-5; John 7:22-23; 9:14; Mark 1:21; Mark 6:2; Luke 4:16; 31; Luke 14:1; 23:56; John 2:6; Matt 16:24; Acts 13:14; 13:27; 13:44; 15:21; 16:13; 17:2; 18:4; Rev 1:10) Do you disagree? Please state your reason and your supporting scriptures.

God's Sabbath is the Lord's Day and we should BELIEVE and FOLLOW him who calls us.

No posts and scirptures and questions answered as to why you disagree? It is ok you do not have to answer them. Lets agree to disagree maybe you can pray about it in your own time :).

Sunday worship is a tradition and teaching of man
Sunday worship is not a replacement for the Sabbath.
Worship is NOT the same thing as REST.
The Sabbath is a day of rest.
Sunday is a day of celebrating the Lord's resurrection.
You have equated the two purposes thus creating a red herring logical fallacy.

The Sabbath is a sign between Israel and God, not between Gentiles and God. (I already posted the relevant scripture.)

Scripture states clearly the Gentiles are not required to keep the Law or be circumcised. (Acts 15 was already cited above.)

Scripture also says that Love fulfills the Law.

You have been told these facts over and over but refuse to acknowledge them.

It is completely apparent that you have no desire to debate.

Your purpose is clearly to convert.

That's not allowed in this forum.
