I'm just curious what the general opinion of alcohol and smoking is on here. As somebody who lost my grandfather to lung cancer when I was nine years old, I made a promise to myself a year later that I would never smoke or do any drugs. I am proud to announce that as an adult now I have kept that promise. I admit, I will have an occasional drink at a party like Christmas or Easter, after all, Jesus drank wine Himself so I don't believe that it's considered a sin (unless you are underage) since we all know for a fact that He was sinless, but at the same time I don't want to harm my body.

I used to drink, smoke and gamble at the same time! One reason I am still alive now is because I was able to quit them all.

Do none of it, but I've been around second hand smoke my entire life. Though these days I can't handle even the smell of it anymore, it's gotten to be an irritant.
For a while after evacuating from a hurricane and having to share a small hotel room with a smoker, the smell would trigger headaches after that, even weeks after I had gone back home. But that symptom went away eventually.

Thank goodness. I have been around secondhand smoke my whole entire life too unfortunately.

Of course.
Lager,lol.

You aussies and lager ,does that also involve a few matches with a kangaroo ?

Off topic ,the more I learn of old Florida the more I realized that Australia is very much like it.gators, crocs, bears, sharks ,heat and deadly natives. Lol

We're more ale drinkers. Larger is huge in Europe.

Having said that, I just finished a Corona.

I am more of a wine and Margarita drinker myself, can't stand beer. I prefer the fruity alcoholic beverages. Also, red wine is supposed to be good for you I think.

I use to pay a coworker to do jobs I hated with corona.

I've traded Corona's for Wheel-weights, to cast bullets out of, lol. Well, not traded per se, but here's a sixer or a twelve for letting me have them! When you're cool to them, they'll save them for you! :approve

I smoke but don't consider myself a drinker. I do not drink every day or even every month. But in the heat of summer, I can appreciate a cold beer or two, and around the holidays I may have a cocktail or two. The fruity ones like you speak of. Mixed drinks. I drank cheap whiskey as a teenager but got it out of my system before I even came of age (Two brothers did not). I loath tequila. Two bad run ins with it. My 13th Birthday, I drank a whole pint of Cuervo to myself and puked all night. About 5 years later some friends conned me into drinking someones homemade tequila. I didn't drink too much, but my drunk friend jumped out the window and broke his ankle so when we took him to the emergency room, I somehow thought it would be a good idea to have a chocolate bar from the vending machine...I was sick as a dog. No more of that for me, ever! Lol

I smoked when I was a kid too, but quit cold turkey 2 days before I turned 21, and stayed smoke free until 2011 (27 yrs!)...and got bored so smoked a few cigarettes and been smokin ever since. :wall Quitting younger is easier than quitting later, I'm finding that out.

Very true.

Scripture does say don't drink it to excess, nor be a winbibber. It can be taken too far. That said, I have an open bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon in the frige right now, lol. I only use it for Communion though. They say 1 or 1 1/2 oz of wine per day is healthy, and I suppose that to be true, seeing as how God made the grapes. Plus I've found that Communion every day (or quite often as compared to once or twice a year at church) is more beneficial too.

I didn't know that scripture actually said that, or if I did I don't remember since alas, I'm only a beginner when it comes to the Bible, but some things just don't have to be written down in there anyway. Sometimes all it takes is a little common sense.

Oh, ok Sister, give me a few and I'll see if I can find the scriptures for you and edit them back into this post for you. :)

But yeah, common sense does say, anything can be overdone and turn into sin.

Ephesians 5:18
18 And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

Proverbs 20:1
Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, And whoever is intoxicated by it is not wise.

However, (in fairness, lol:)

1 Timothy 5:23
23 No longer drink water exclusively, but use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent ailments.../

So it's not as if it is bad, it is not. It's only bad when one overdoes it.

I couldn't find the term "Winebibber" in scripture right now, but I'm pretty sure I read it in in one translation or other at one time. I just forget exactly which translation I was reading then, lol.
