Wow, it never ceases to amaze me what people will come up with to reconcile reality with stories in the Bible. God used the earth as silly putty during the flood, that's a good one.
For better or for worse people will cling to beliefs that are proven to be wrong.
Until modern astronomy and space travel people believed the earth was the center of the universe. We now know it is just one planet circling one star among millions of stars in one galaxy among billions of galaxies.

How about this incredible idea – that God IS good, just, and merciful and would NEVER kill innocent babies or ORDER anyone else to do such a thing. Maybe the stories in the Bible are just that - stories made up by MAN to serve his own purpose.
My biggest problem with the story of Noah’s Ark is this;
Does anyone have any estimates on the number of children and babies that would have drowned in a global flood?
Would God have killed innocent children? I don’t think so!
An even better question is;
What did the bears, lions, tigers, cheetahs, leopards, hyenas, civets, foxes, wolves, dogs, and all the other carnivores eat when they emerged from the Ark?
IF ALL animals on earth originated from a single source, namely Noah’s Ark then why are there(called indigenous) marsupials (kangaroos, koalas) ONLY in Australia, lions African elephants, zebras ONLY in Africa, rattlesnakes ONLY in North America etc.?
