Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his master made ruler over his household, to give them food in due season (us or Him)?

Jesus teaches His disciples that He will appoint faithful people to steward His provision to be distributed among His people until He returns.

When He returns he will reward those who were faithful to do what He gave them to do, and punish those who were unfaithful, who did not do what He appointed them to do, but rather returned to being sinful and abusing the very people they were appointed to take care of.

45 “Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his master made ruler over his household, to give them food in due season? 46 Blessed is that servant whom his master, when he comes, will find so doing.47 Assuredly, I say to you that he will make him ruler over all his goods.48 But if that evil servant says in his heart, ‘My master is delaying his coming,’ 49 and begins to beat his fellow servants, and to eat and drink with the drunkards, 50 the master of that servant will come on a day when he is not looking for him and at an hour that he is not aware of,51 and will cut him in two and appoint him his portion with the hypocrites. There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Matthew 24:45-51

It's very simple, and very easy to understand.

He says the same thing at the end of His discourse without the parabolic references.

  • He sums up all the parables throughout the Olivet Discourse, showing this principle.

  • The Lord Jesus is actually the Master who gives His people responsibility, then returns to find that His people have been either faithful and obedient, or unfaithful and disobedient.

31 “When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. 32 All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. 33 And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 35 for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; 36 I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’

37 “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? 38 When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? 39 Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40 And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did itto one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’

41 “Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels:42 for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink; 43 I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’

44 “Then they also will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’ 45 Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’ 46 And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
Matthew 25:31-46

The Lord gave us signs so that that Day would not overtake us as a thief,
I'm holding fast to Paul's good teaching (which never contradicts Jesus' teachings) that the Lord gave Himself, His death (not signs) so that the day of wrath will not overtake us, "all sons".
Which is why I asked you⬇️
He died for us, not us for Him right?

because God did not appoint us for wrath, but for the obtaining of salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we will live at the same time with him.
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=1 Thessalonians 5:9-10&version=LEB

I also asked you ⬇️
So we obtain salvation through us or Him?
To which you replied ⬇️
No where did I insinuate that we obtain salvation through us verses through Him.
See your reference to 'lifestyle' below:
if they turn back to a sinful lifestyle and to live among sinners again and abuse His people will be appointed their portion with the hypocrites,

I'm holding fast to Paul's teaching us that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him.

What, exactly, do you think Paul meant by teaching us these two things:

1. We must not "sleep"
2. Whether we are awake or "asleep" we will live

So then, we must not sleep like the rest, but must be on the alert and be self-controlled.
...
whether we are awake or asleep, we will live at the same time with him.

I'm holding fast to Paul's good teaching (which never contradicts Jesus' teachings)

Yes, as you can see I actually posted the what the two taught about this topic.

6 Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober. 7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk are drunk at night. 8 But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and as a helmet the hope of salvation. 9 For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 who died for us, that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him. 1 Thessalonians 5:6-10

  • For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ

Same admonition as Jesus gives us, because that is what Jesus taught His disciples, and warned them as well.

42 Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. 43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. 44 Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

His servants whom He promotes to serve His people and watch over them to give them food, if they turn back to a sinful lifestyle and to live among sinners again and abuse His people will be appointed their portion with the hypocrites, at His coming, because that Day will come upon them as a thief.

I'm holding fast to Paul's teaching us that whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with Him.

Yes living together with Him, being joined to Him or connected to Him is what the Bible teaches.

Those who become disconnected from Him, are no longer living connected to Him who is our only source of eternal life.

“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. 3 You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. 4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.
5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. John 15:1-6

I'll hold-fast to Paul's good teaching that we are all sons of light and sons of day. We are not of the night nor of darkness whether we are asleep or awake when He returns.

But you, brothers, are not in the darkness, so that the day should catch you like a thief, for you are all sons of light and sons of day. We are not of the night nor of darkness.

I have not brought into this discussion anything other than Paul's teachings to the brothers above. There is no contradictory teaching to the fact that all sons obtain salvation regardless of lifestyle thereof and the thanks for that goes always to God, not to our lifestyle.

We give thanks to God always concerning all of you, making mention constantly in our prayers,

Some people just don't hold-fast to it and are pushed off course. They are asleep at the wheel, so to speak:

His servants whom He promotes to serve His people and watch over them to give them food, if they turn back to a sinful lifestyle and to live among sinners again and abuse His people will be appointed their portion with the hypocrites, at His coming,

Imagining that God 'promotes' wicked servants.

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Being aware that the chapter and verse numbers were added in the 1500's to make it easier to find a passage, don't take the verse as a "stand alone" statement. It was written in a context.
The immediate context has to do with prophesying in the church.

Do not quench the Spirit, do not despise prophesying, but test everything; hold fast what is good,
(1Th 5:19-21 RSV)

So, let the Holy Spirit be active in the congregation and don't disdain prophesying. However, neither should you accept everything that is "prophesied" because it could just be the person speaking according to his/her own inspiration rather than the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Keep the good stuff and ignore the junk.

It makes perfect sense to me explained like this.

Guess I will try and encourage folks.

If we think on the good.

We do not have as much time for:
Thoughts that depress us
Thoughts that keep us angry
Thoughts that bring fear
Etc.

I pray the good will keep you established on the hope of your calling in Christ Jesus.

That lines up with Phillipans 4 in thinking on what is pure, noble, etc.

I just seemed in the particular verse Paul was referring to something more specific I guess.

Thanks for your post. Always a good reminder for sure.
