Pastor Yong Gyu Park had a Near Death Experience. He was supposedly informed that the ratio of souls that end up in Hell vs. Heaven is 1000:1 (the video lists these backwards, but you get the idea). This is an appalling statistic if true. Question: what do you think about this figure? Could it be accurate? Does Scripture address this?

That quantifies "many" vs "few." Personally, I see 'the remnant' as being about 10% and would like that to be the low end, with the highest possible (speaking of eternity, not short term) of 100%. Hell being empty of our species would be to the Glory of God, and nothing in Scripture prevents Him from accomplishing that.

But I'm not placing any bets ...

13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
King James Version (KJV)
That passage I'm aware of, but doesn't give actual figures.

We can look at various metrics to see those active in church vx those who are not.

We can look at local religious non-profits and see their income statements to see the money they have.

And we have the parable of the soils.
Parable of the talents
The ten virgins
And some others

What is obvious is that the vast majority of people out there don't go to church or believe. They might say they believe but their verbal accent is the limit of their beliefs. (And this number is shrinking)

Then the parables involving the virgins without oil and the others who are "believers" in appearance only says that even some of the shrinking numbers of those going to church aren't going to make it to Heaven.

Look at it this way...
God chose the Israelites as a "Nation of Priests". There were literally millions of Jews when Jesus came...but only 200+ true followers when He was crucified.
That says a lot right there.

There were thousands when Jesus was "buying lunch". But when Jesus was praying in Gethsemane no one could stay awake. Peter was quick with the sword and to deny that he was a disciple but slow with the healing... again not what Jesus wanted.

So...when our leaders have "gone fishing" and fellow pew warmers have gone into hiding...very very few remain faithful.

The OP gives 1/1,000....I wouldn't be that generous with the numbers....I would think that it's going to be much smaller than that.

Elijah thought the ratio smaller than God knew it to be:

God did not reject His people whom He foreknew! Or do you not know what the Scripture says in-connection-with Elijah [in 1 Kings 19:14], how he appeals to God against Israel?—
“Lord, they killed Your prophets, they tore-down Your altars, and I alone was left, and they are seeking my life”.
But what does the divine-response say to him [in 1 Kings 19:18]?—
“I left-remaining for Myself seven-thousand men who did not bow a knee to Baal”.
In this manner then, there has come-to-be a remnant also at the present time, according-to the choosing of grace.

Yup, the remnant. Our professing population is still over 70%, if the parable of the virgins means half of those don't make it that's still 35% that do.

God knows. Or does He? The only time Jesus expressed doubt was questioning if He would find Faith upon His second coming.

All of this is supposition based on if near dead is actually dead enough to meet Jesus.
I do not believe near death experiencers are seeing what is beyond the life. Near death being the operative words there.

In my humble opinion the term "near death experience" is a misnomer, propagated by a secular scientific community unwilling to admit the possibility of a consciousness beyond physical death. They want to say these people were never completely dead, and explain their experiences as residual brain activity.

I think a much better term would be Post Death Experience, denoting that the person actually died and came back. Whether you believe that such a thing is possible is another matter, but at least we can be clear what we're discussing.

I don't know how they came up with the figure, but I heard one guy explaining how it's prolly closer to...the square root of 1% (!!)

So it's 10:1 (going to Hell)?

If he meant the square of 1%, then it's 10,000:1. Which really sucks, but people who've had hellish NDEs do report numbers that staggering, with lost souls falling like rain.

He was real clear that it was the square root and not 10/1

Scary!

I read somewhere....probably some Barna data...that about 9-10% of the US has a Christian Worldview. For the purposes of the survey I was looking at, a "Christian Worldview" basically meant accepting and believing the very basics of Christianity. The % is slightly higher in the South, relatively low amongst Catholics, and...this is what scared me...

even w/ church going Evangelicals, maybe 1 in 3 had a Christian Worldview. Seriously. Maybe its always been that way? Jesus warns of wolves in sheep's clothing, speaks of the wheat and the tares, etc.

Anyway...the US is kind of an "outlier," compared to other affluent, developed, 21st century nations, in terms of level of religiosity and such. So...if 10% of the US population has a traditional, Christian Worldview (which would not guarantee entrance to Heaven, but is most definitely a huge step in the right direction), then one could expect even lower % of people in other affluent, developed nations to be Heaven-bound. On the plus side...

Jesus is winning souls in poor(er) countries, developing countries, even places that have traditionally been hostile to Christianity. I read this short article in "in touch" once, about Jesus appearing to hardcore Muslims in their dreams, winning them over, etc.

Kinda rambled...just saying, I don't think "1,000 to 1" is correct, at least not for much of the world that's been exposed to Christianity. As the established churches crumble and decay in the US, UK, Europe, etc., there are vibrant Christian movements in China, parts of Africa, etc. And yet...

I -do- get kind of scared when I think about how many Christians might end up having a Matthew 7:23 experience. I certainly hope I won't be among them.

The square root of 1% is 10%, is it not? (Although some say √1% also equals 1%).

10% x 10% is indeed 1%. How counter-intuitive! God does have a great sense of humor, but somehow I don't think He'd reveal something like this to someone who thought it meant way less than 1 in 100 was getting in ...

We know many vs few for sure .. Maybe God has set his number and we simply continue until the number God has in mind is completed few by few ..

11 And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellow servants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.
