Next Saturday closes the regular season, and it will be a BIG day for us military fans!

1) The Army-Navy game will actually mean something. Both teams have beaten Air Force, so the winner gets the President's Cup for one year. Navy is already eligible for a bowl game; Army has been eliminated.
2) Air Force is 6-5. They will be playing in the Armed Forces Bowl. They will play next week, but are bowl-bound regardless of the outcome.
3) I'm proud to report that Coast Guard Academy finished with a winning season (5-4). They aren't in the NCAA, and no bowl game is scheduled.
4) The Citadel Bulldogs have been an embarrassment for years, but they finished today with 7-4 record. It's the first time since 1992 that they've won seven games. Despite not being in the NCAA, they are eligible for a bowl game; the decision will be made next Sunday after the regular college football season closes.
5) Virginia Military Institute finished 2-9.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Navy can hook an anchor to the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy and bring it to Annapolis.

Keenan Reynolds extended Navy's dominance against Army, scoring the winning touchdown late in the fourth quarter in a 17-13 victory in the 113th rivalry game Saturday.

Navy (8-4) beat Army for the 11th straight time and won the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy awarded to the team with the best record in games among the three service academies. Army and Navy each beat Air Force, putting the prestigious trophy up for grabs in the regular-season finale for the first time since 2005.

''It means everything,'' Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo said. ''That's our No. 1 goal, to get the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy. I'm just so happy for these guys.''

Army (2-10) hasn't hoisted the CIC trophy since 1996.

The Black Knights came close, but Navy recovered a late fumble, and Reynolds' 8-yard rushing score made it 17-13.

In front of 69,607 fans and Vice President Joe Biden at Lincoln Financial Field, Navy caught a break when Army missed a late field goal attempt.

Reynolds quickly found Brandon Turner down the sideline for a 49-yard gain. Reynolds then escaped a rush and followed with the 8-yard touchdown run with 4:41 left in the game.

Unlike previous game over the last decade, the Black Knights were in this one until the final drive. Army had driven to the 14 when fullback Larry Dixon fumbled on a sloppy exchange. Navy recovered and the Midshipmen went wild and rushed the field.

The CIC trophy was coming back to the Naval Academy for a record 13th time after a two-year stint at Air Force. Before Navy started its 11-game winning streak, the longest one in the series, started in 1890, was only five games for either team.

Okay, Fans, the regular season is over, and according to the highly-ignored Massey Ratings, here's how we did:

There are 124 NCAAF teams.

Navy (8-4) finished in 69th place.

Air Force (6-6) finished in 93rd place.

Army (2-10) finished in 114th place.

No military team get a ranking vote (top 25) all year, and none of them beat a ranked team all year. Navy won the President's Cup by beating both Air Force and Army. Navy and Air Force each got a bowl game, and we'll be reporting on how they do.

Looking ahead to Saturday, December 29, 2012, Air Force will be playing Rice in the Armed Forces Bowl. Both unranked teams are 6-6 for the regular season. The unofficial Massey Ratings rank Rice at 87 and Air Force at 93. The Rice Owls have the momentum, having won their last four games in a row. It is their first bowl game since 2008.

Meanwhile, the Air Force Falcons have lost three of their last four games. This is their sixth straight bowl game, and they've had a month off to recover from their sorry finish in the regular season. Both teams have strong offenses and weak defenses, so look for a high-scoring game.

For Rice, three of their six losses were by four points or less. Air Force has the second-highest rushing of any NCAAF team this year, including a bizarre 21-7 win over Hawaii in which the Falcons didn't even attempt a pass.

It will be the first time these two teams have played each other in 14 years, and the odds do favor Rice.

Navy (8-4) has its bowl game on the same day as Air Force, and they'll be playing unranked Arizona State (7-5). Navy finished the regular season in 87th place, while Arizona State is (gulp) 29th in the unofficial Massey Ratings. The Midshipmen will be playing their ninth bowl game in ten years, while the Sun Devils haven't won a bowl game since 2005, losing three bowl games since then.

With the third-highest-ranked quarterback in college football, Arizona ought to do well against Navy's poor anti-passing defense. Meanwhile, Navy has one of the best rushing teams in football, while the Sun Devils do poorly defending against a running game. Look for another high-scoring game, but if Navy wins this one, it will be a miracle.

Well, Folks, the final unofficial Massey Rankings are out, and we didn't do well. Navy and Air Force both lost their bowl games. Out of 124 NCAAF teams, Navy finished #74, Air Force was #102, and Army was #116.

The good news is: It's already next year! See you in the fall.

It's August 31, 2013, and Army has won its opener 28 to 12!!!!

Not you do I kid!!!!!

This just in! Air Force won their opener, beating Colgate 38-13!

Don't look for any rankings (getting into the top 25) as none of these four teams are ranked to begin with.

September 7, 2013

Things are back to normal at West Point, as the Army football team got massacred today. But not as badly as Air Force got pounded. But there's good news! Navy won their opener.

It's September 14, 2013. Army lost today, but don't be ashamed. They played #5 Stanford, losing 34-20. Look for Stanford to drop in the rankings despite their victory.

Hokey Smokes, Folks! Navy is beating Delaware 37-7 in the third quarter! Delaware has won its first two games, so this one could really move Navy up.

Air Force lost to Boise State 42-20 yesterday.

Folks, There's more than meets the eye in Navy's 51-7 victory over Delaware yesterday. The Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens (No joke, that's their name) are an NCAAF minor league team. They are one of the best, but they are not listed with the 120 NCAAF teams. There has been talk that the three military academies need to switch to the minor leagues, as they just can't recruit the best football players. But Delaware is one of the better minor league teams, and Navy's whomping victory shows that the Midshipmen are still major league.

This just in! Navy is ranked #38! It is the first time in two years that any military academy has received a ranking vote. Technically, only the top 25 teams are ranked, but for us, this is a big improvement.

It's September 28, 2013, and we've finally had a good day.

After winning their openers, Army and Air Force lost their next two games, but Army won today, making them 2-3. But undefeated Navy lost today, and is now 3-1. None of the teams involved are ranked, so expect Navy to lose its one ranking vote.

And after losing their first three games, Coast Guard won today on Parents' Day.

Well, Folks, the unofficial Massey Ratings rank all 120 NCAAF teams, and it doesn't look too good. Navy (2-1) is #67. Army (2-3) is #102. And Air Force (1-4) is #111.

Hey how about that..... the SecDef announced they wouldn't cancel the Navy-Air Force football game due to the government shutdown. Army and BC game will go on too.

No surprise today, as Navy beat Air Force 28-10. The biggest surprise was that at halftime, the Falcons were beating the Midshipmen 10-7. And no surprise when Army lost 48-27 to Boston College. But the Coast Guard rescued us from disgrace, beating Western New England 41-38. Don't laugh too hard at Coast Guard. They're a minor league NCAA team this year, and for a school that small, that's pretty good.

Pick me up off the floor, Men! Army won!

And how did they do it? They actually managed to find a team worse than themselves.
