It's Saturday, November 12, 2011.

The Wyoming Cowboys have just beaten Air Force 25-17. Now 5-5, the Falcons are still eligible for a bowl game (you have to win half your games) and there's hope. With only two games left, the Falcons play the 2-6 UNLV Rebels, so it looks good for next week.

Army lost and is now ineligible for a bowl game.

But Navy won, beating SMU 24-17. Navy must win both its remaining games to be eligible for a bowl game.

It's Monday November 14, 2011, and it's obvious that the military hasn't done too well this season.

The Citadel, South Carlina's military academy, is 3-6, and their remaining game is against the University of South Carlina. Look for a massacre, and they are already ineligible for a bowl game.

The Virginia Military Institute Keydets are 1-9, but there's a bright spot. They won their only game on Parents' Day, so they aren't completely ashamed. They have one remaining game.

Army's hapless Black Knights have nowhere to go with their two remaining games. This Saturday they'll be playing Temple University (my dad graduated from Temple with honors, but he didn't play football for them). With a 6-4 record, Temple is a so-so team, but this looks like a win for them.

It's Saturday, November 19, 2011.

Army has lived up to expectations, losing 42-14 to Temple University.

In a heart-breaking three point loss to San Jose State, Navy has been eliminated from bowl competition. It is the first time in nine years that Navy will not get a bowl game.

But there's good news! Air Force is leading UNLV by 28 points with two minutes remaining in the fourth.

This Saturday will be the end of the regular season for college football.

One of the greatest traditions in sports will take place in the Army-Navy game, played this year in Washington D.C. In the early 1960's, this game made the front pages, as America was filed with WW2 veterans and their families. And even though both academies are eliminated from the bowl games, we're proud of our service people and hope for a rip-roaring game.

Me? My dad was in the Navy in WW2, so I always root for them.

I was dismayed t learn that the 6-5 Air Force Falcons are not eligible for a bowl game--yet. Since two of their wins were against their own division, they must win one more game to be eligible.

The Falcons will go up against 3-6 Colorado State, which has lost its last five games in a row. Come on, Air Force, don't let us down!

With a 45-21 win over Colorado State, Air Force (7-5) is awaiting their bowl game bid. Since this was Colorado's seventh straight loss, don't expect any ranking votes.

The Army-Navy game won't be played until December 10. Good idea. With less games going on, it will get them better publicity.

Air force Academy has a bowl game!

Dec. 28, 2011

Military Bowl Presented by Northrop Grumman: Toledo (8-4) vs. Air Force (7-5), 4:30 p.m., at Washington

Yahoo Sports tells us "Neither plays all that much defense, so there should be points aplenty. And if you’re going to be watching a game on a Wednesday afternoon, you want to see points aplenty."

Meanwhile, the Toledo Rockets (whose motto is "Building Champions") have won their last three games in a row.

Well, Folks, the biggest part of the game was President Obama doing the coin toss, but Navy just beat Army 27-21. It was a close game, with Navy never getting more than a seven point lead on Army.

This closes out a disappointing season for both teams, with neither one getting a bowl game and with Air Force beating both of them. Navy is now 5-7, while Army is 3-9.

It was Navy's tenth victory in a row over Army, but the only time in ten years that they won by less than 12 points.

We appreciate our military and we're looking forward to seeing these two teams again next year.

We're proud of Army linebacker Andrew Rodriguez, America's top athlete-scholar of the year.

NEW YORK, December 6, 2011 - United States Military Academy linebacker Andrew Rodriguez has been named the 22nd recipient of the William V. Campbell Trophy.

The Campbell Trophy is one of college football's most sought after and competitive awards, recognizing an individual as the absolute best in the country for his combined academic success, football performance and exemplary community leadership.

We're back! It's September 1, 2012, and the college football season has just kicked off. Our beloved Navy has gone to Dublin, Ireland to play Notre Dame and...and...Notre Dame won 50-7.

It's still opening day, and Air Force held on to its 28 point lead to beat Idaho State 49-21!

Army and Coast Guard do not open until next week. Look for Coast Guard to be a turn-around team. Winning only two games last year, they were seven points or less from victory in five more.

It's September 2, 2012, and time to look to the future.

Navy has this week off, and they'll need time to repair the damage after getting pounded 50-10 by Notre Dame. In two weeks, they'll limp into port against Penn State. The Nittany Lions, innocent victims of somebody else's sins, lost their opener yesterday, so we're looking at a matchup between two hurting teams that badly need a win.

September 3, 2012

Air Force won last week, but now the face the #8 Michigan Wolverines. And the academy announced today that one of their star players is out for the rest of the season with injuries.

The Masseyratings (Yes, it's one word, and no, "Massey" is not related to me) puts Air Force at #70. Navy is #94. Army is #105, out of 124 colleges.

This Saturday, #105 ranked Army opens against #76 San Diego State. While failing to achieve a bowl game. last year's Army team led the nation in rushing, and their seven top rushers are all back this year. Will the Black Knights end their four-game losing streak this Saturday?

Last week, the Aztecs lost 21 to 12 to the #43 Washington Huskies, who are now ranked #38. Their website states that they are taking this game seriously, as military academies tend to use surprisingly strong unexpected tactics.

All right, all right! I know that the Citadel, South Carolina's military academy, isn't really a military academy, but they have provided their country with many fine officers. And last Saturday, they won their opener against Charleston Southern, 41-14.

Neither team is in the NCAA, and the Citadel's athletes are required to succeed in a rigorous academic program, the same as all the other students. As a result, the Bulldogs are generally not a good team. So we're proud of them for having a 1-0 record.

It's September 8, and Oh, the pain! Gong up against the #19 Michigan Wolverines, the Air Force Falcons surprised everyone by keeping the game under control. Losing by six points with a minute and a half to go, the Falcons ran out of downs and lost.

Look for Michigan to lose its ranking and for Air Force to go up, after Michigan barely beats a team they were supposed to easily defeat.
