As this year comes to a close, I think it is worth reflecting on the year both spiritually and in our secular lives.
My career? mmm. well let's just say, it has never been my strong point. I survived rather than advanced.
My spiritual; life? Some definite improvements. Attended a few Bible studies. Have a much better grip of the Salvation Story and Old Testament. Still LOTS to learn. I only returned to Christianity in 2016 after over 20 years. I'm definitely less lost than I was say 5 years ago.
Prayer Life? Improved but still scratchy. That's the key I hear you say. And I would wholeheartedly agree. Daily self-discipline. Having a sound routine. I stopped and started. I'm a sinner.
Family? Great Christmas Day. My wife and I are solid.. The relationship is solid and gets better every year I think. No kids. The dog continues to smile every day. Without him, I would have no fans except maybe the better half.
Extended family. (brothers/sister inlaws)This is one of my problem areas. I do not work hard enough on fostering good relations here. I need to work harder on this perhaps. More prayer. In fact I may reach out to you guys on this one in another thread.
Hobby ..Fingerstyle guitar Much improved Keep up the good work.
Health...some injuries creeping in. Arthritis setting in fingers and now knees. Tendonitis of Achilles. Shin splints. Lost a bit of weight though. About 5 kg. Doctor was impressed at least.
Ok, results are in. I passed. 69% Lost heavily in Extended family relations. Much more daily self-discipline required for prayer. Trusting God, the God of Israel. Turning doubt into faith. This is what I need to work on for next year.

This year I got par. The best thing about par for me is its level each year and can't go backwards. I just stay on the same level. For the last 20 years I have not achieved anything or got ahead.
not achieved anything? Aren't you being overly modest or humble there?

I did not achieve anything. I am in the exact same spot I was at the beginning of the year. I didnt buy anything, I didnt do anything, if I did achieve something I am unaware of it, maybe I said something to someone that helped them, or I posted something that helped them, or I made there day a bit brighter, so i may have achieved some spiritual things, but I have no idea.

Thats between them and God. I get no glory.
I think maybe what you are saying, is that it is better not to make assessments of our past, in this case our past year. I can appreciate that point of view. Thanks for responding.

Yes!!! My friend kiwidan is being very humble, and/or he really doesn't recognize the demonstrated spiritual growth in his life. I'd hate to think that growing older has diminished his love of fishing too. :)

Hi skyhigh and welcome to CF :wave2

2017 has been a good year, but yet with struggles of not being able to do the things I use to due to arthritis and joint replacements that hinder me from doing yard work that I enjoy doing, but yet can go camping and trail riding on my ATV with my husband. It's been a year of getting deeper in scripture, strengthening my faith in Christ and reflecting more on the important things on this path of life. Marriage is great, no children, but hubby can be at times, :lol. Hubby's job is good, spend quality time with my mother who is 84 and in great health. What else can I say, other than life is good and life is what you make it to be in order to be happy.

I've got arthritis in my fingers and knees now. Plus a neck that needs constant strengthening exercises to keep it flexible. I had trigger fingers and carpel tunnels. So I can empathise with arthritis pain a lot. Its so tempting to just throw in the towel and not move. But it gets worse if you don't move your joints every day.

I have two knee and two hip replacements and my L4 and L5 in my back has shifted due to an ATV accident a couple years ago and you have to get up and move around even when it hurts to do so. I do a little here and a little there and have to sit for a bit and then continue especially with yard work in the summer. You do what you can do and enjoy it as you go along.

I'm impressed by your yard work. That's heroic considering what you've been through. I have spondylolisthesis of L5/S1. Often wear a brace. My job is a part-time school janitor.
No reading that again, you have my absolute respect. God Bless you!

I'm on disability so can only do very little at a time as it takes me all summer and hubby does the mowing and weed eating. . Nothing heroic, just need to keep the body from stiffing up all together.

C'mon Kiwi, you caught one of the biggest fish in the world.
That's a major accomplishment.
You must be down in the annals somewhere for that.
