One of the Churches which I used to attend became so huge that it would have been impossible for the handful that started out with this Church to reach all of them.
Did you leave the church because it got too big?

If so, imagine heaven!

so if my churched started to marry gays and deny jesus as he says he is. just stay?
No, I think that would fall under Kathi's reason #4. That would not be like members falling into sin, but actually justifying it somehow.

I left because it became more of a social gathering.God came second.I felt lost because it was so big.I loved the Pastor's sermons and that is why I stayed so long.

I understand about the social gathering, more like cliques in my experience. As long as people have their social clubs, that's all they care about, not everyone of course. I see a popularity contest going on, too, name dropping, like the pastor is a god himself.

However, once a person gets into a small group and really makes a connection, then they can start living in community and "doing life together". It's getting to that point I find difficult to attain.

Major cliques at this Church and OH MY!!! do I hate cliques.

I think if the church was right and went wrong, it is our obligation as mature Christians to try and set them straight before we consider moving on.
Paul had problems with the Corinthian and Galatian churches, but chose to try to set them straight rather than just dump them.
Jesus said if you bring back one stray person, you are doing a great service to that soul.
Not all of us can approach leadership and set them straight about matters.
But those of us who can should be doing it.
Be prepared to quote the Word of God.
If they will not change, then leave.

This site is not so bad but some Christian forums and chatrooms are really bad for cliques.
still. my brother is an old earth creationist, he may as I see him talk about science on fb become a theistic evolutionist. even though I will always disagree with both positions, the te the most. I cant say he is lost nor wouldn't have something to teach. I wouldn't argue here as I do with him. I can if he wanted to but life!

Yes, they are and I believe it is an indicator of mainstream Christianity.

I was on another site where there were several pastors and they don't bother with the "small" people.
my denomation has offices for the black folk, the white folk and the Hispanics as out reach,. my pastor says to that Hogwash! one cross for all!

That's awesome! I think I like your pastor. :)

Kathi, you're in my clique.
No, she's in mine.

1. Yeah when your pastor expects you to ask permission from him to start a small fellowship in your house but he never once replied to your phone call, never once visited your house, celebrity pastor, hehehe

2. When your pastor becomes a demi-god. All the eyes of the congregation is fixed on the pastor instead of Jesus Christ

3. When people flock to the pastor for prayers like meeting a movie star when you see body guards all around him looking suspiciously at you if you are going to attack the pastor.

4. When your church always teaches submit to the authority but the one who is in authority never knew you at all

5. When the church doesn't teaches the second coming of Jesus Christ.

6. When the church doesn't touch the book of revelation or teach prophesies

7. When the church doesn't teach about demons?

8. When the church doesn't teach about repentance but rather brain-wash with sugar coated grace teaching.

9. When the church doesn't encourage you to praise, worship, read bible, pray, fast

hmmm...church. I should go, but...

...well, its hard enough for a "normal" person. Imagine the community pariah, a "recovering mental patient," walking into a church. Anyway...

...sometimes, you have to leave. Like people leaving the Episcopalians and PCUSA. Not just individual churches, but whole denominations can slide into apostasy. I guess its like frogs in water: water warms up, frog doesn't notice it, frog boils. Same with gradual slides into apostasy, I guess.

I'm considering church, personally. My dad favors a local mega church. I don't know...OSAS, trendy Christians, I dunno. I'm thinking a Pentecostal church not too far away.

Anyway...church isn't perfect. Never has been. But sometimes I wonder if, at least for a season, some of us do better alone. Or maybe not...

Ok boys don't fight over me.E-X-C-U-S-E M-E! I never did care of Ann Margaret so please do not do that to me.

Now Julie Andrews "The Sound of Music" now that I can see.
Oh, that's right. Didn't you do a topless scene once in a movie with James Garner? (Never saw it, just heard about it).
