Some people think we will be given literal mansions.Jesus said there will be many rooms in his house. What do you think?
John 14:2-3

Jesus is saying that in God's home(heaven) there will be many people in the family of God all abiding together. The word translated "mansions" or "rooms" means literally "the act of staying or residing. So if you put this in Greek Jesus is saying that in God's home(heaven) there will be many people in the family abiding together. This is very different than rows of mansions on streets of gold.

Some NDEs suppport this. Some say you can have what you want. Others say your level of residence depends on the works you did while on earth (Please note that works are not what gets you INTO heaven, you know who/what does. They only serve as construction materials for your heavenly home provided you make it in.)

Joh 14:2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

The word house G3614
From G3624; properly residence (abstractly), but usually (concretely) an abode (literally or figuratively); by implication a family (especially domestics): - home, house (-hold)G3d Of uncertain affinity; a dwelling (more or less extensive, literally or figuratively); by implication a family (more or less related, literally or figuratively): - home, house (-hold), temple.
G3624
Of uncertain affinity; a dwelling (more or less extensive, literally or figuratively); by implication a family (more or less related, literally or figuratively): - home, house (-hold), temple.

the word mansions G3438
From G3306; a staying, that is, residence (the act or the place): - abode, mansion.\
G3306
A primary verb; to stay (in a given place, state, relation or expectancy): - abide, continue, dwell, endure, be present, remain, stand, tarry (for), X thine own.

Accordingly the verse could read
In my Father's family are many abodes : if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

In the visions people have seen everything from multi-family housing projects to stately skyscrapers.

I admit I find it amusing to think of housing projects in Heaven. I guess it beats a mansion in the "other" place.

There's 1 Corinthians 3:12-13 to deal with. All our sins and useless actions shall be as straw and will be burned up. But our godly works and faith shall lay a foundation for a heavenly home...

I've heard (Pentecostal) ministers say that our faith and abiding by the rules gets us into Heaven, and our good deeds and such decide our level of reward (if any...). That makes sense to me, anyway.

I go to prepare a place for you in my Father’s house. What is His Father’s house? Is it not in heaven?

I have a study that suggests “No doubt these heavenly mansions refer to our glorified bodies which will be like those of Lord Himself.”

That is something we don't know for sure.I know that their are rewards in heaven but we don't know what that totally includes except crowns.

I am thinking they would.Do you think we will sleep?
Why would spiritual bodies need sleep? And if we did, why would we need a house to sleep in when there's no danger for us whatsoever?

The housing metaphor in John 14 is merely a metaphor, telling us there is a place awaiting us where we will be home.

I don't see why there wouldn't be mansions in heaven. Whether we sleep or not, there will still be Sabbath days in heaven from what I understand, so why not? If we can sleep in heaven, think about it...1000 years of uninterrupted sleep...Ahhh!

Our loved ones will be there. Mebbe we would want to visit or have a BBQ or something? :lol

I will accept what I am given but what I hope for is a room... right next to the throne room. In the Army, I sometimes slept in a tent, on the ground and I was content but I know my LORD will do much better than that so all is good.

Good translation and post, Kathi. Thanks

Wondering if glorified bodies would have need of housing...

Hmm......I not sure about any of this. Was Jesus in His glorified body when He ate and drank after He rose? Or did His body change again after this? All confusing to me.

Besides having mansions or not having them, I wonder what else heaven is like? In Revelation 21:1 it talks about a "new heaven and new earth". Does that mean heaven is going to be on a round earth like planet like the one we live on now?

I hope that Christians are not excited about having a huge mansion.Isn't the number one reason we have given our lives to Jesus Christ because we love Him and want to be with Him for an eternity?
Nooooooooo... the number one reason I'm following Jesus is because I was promised a manison in heaven. With a big swimming pool, a huge bar, high speed internet and 77 virgins waiting for me. :biggrin
