I have mentioned on this site before how it hurts me that we find it easier to get along with atheists and Islam better than we can with Catholics. I honestly believe it goes back to the reformation and the hard feelings that resulted. After nearly 600 years we still haven't learned to forgive each other I guess.

Incidentally, the "C" word is not taboo on this site. Discussion of Catholic doctrine is limited because of what I just posted above and when we get into those discussions they deteriorate at the speed of light into the garbage dump.

I agree. What makes Catholicism hands off?
arguments to the point of that it's easier to contain it one forum. once we could discuss gay rights in all forums but that was changed recently. its for only Christian talk and advice.

Go on over, and spend a few days on CARM if you really want an answer. I doubt I have ever seen such ungodly hatred and nastiness among Christians than on the "C" sub-forums there.
So, why open up a good forum like this to a topic that seems to ALWAYS cause strife and discourse?

I've never understood the animosity between evangelical Protestants and the Catholic church. We're all Christians, what we have in common is far more important than our differences. When I was young, worshipping with the family in a small Methodist church, we got a new pastor who's first sermon was very negative about the RCC. After the worship service a couple of older members had a talk with him, and we never again heard that kind of message.

But, we Protestants can't even manage to tolerate each other at times. We have a local, very big, congregation of evangelical non-denominational Christians who refuse to even share communion or other worship with other churches. In the Methodist church we have open communion, ANY sincere man or woman who wants to have that relationship with Christ is welcome to share in our communion sacrament. When Christ calls people to His table, we dare not, as a church, stand between Him and them.

In 30 years as a born again christian, I have never had fellowship with a Catholic.
So what do I have in common with them?

Many Roman Catholics in my family and my wife's family.
They see us as odd balls that don't know what we are talking about.

When a repentant man cries out "Jesus, save me!" I don't think Jesus quizzes him to see if he's Baptist or Catholic.

This is a bit confusing.

1. You have never worshipped in a Catholic church?
2. A catholic has never worshipped with you in your church?
3. You have never had dealings with a catholic?

Those are the three interpretations I could draw from this. Which exactly ...or did I just miss everything
