I'm torn on this one. Here's my story....

...I was always wimpy. Long story as to why (everybody's got a back story, trust me), but it was a problem. Then, one day, I stood up for myself. To shrinks who had treated me. And...Jesus called me to repentance. After I was charged with a felony.

The felony was dropped, replaced by a (serious) misdemeanor. My masculinity is developing (I had weird gender issues when I was younger). I'm pursuing celibacy. My cognitive skills are back up (ECT...wow...).

So, this begs the question: did God need for me to stand up for myself? Or did God just take an extra bit of pity on me when I did come to repentance?

CE God does not need us... We need HIm... Understanding the times when we should stand and when it is time to turn the other cheek can be difficult. Being a doormat is not being a Christian. being a bully is not Christian... I think you needed to stand up for yourself.

Thanks, reba.

I've been mulling it over. No sense looking over the past too much, of course, but...I sometimes wonder...

...if I hadn't stood up for myself, would God have seen fit to bless me this much?

God can evidently save us in spite of us getting in the way.
1 Cor 6:12 All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient (good or profitable for me) . . Choose your actions wisely; our freedom in Christ wrongly applied can have untold consequence for years.
1 Cor 6:19 . . ye are not your own?
1 Cor 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

God is merciful, and will do work for us. Our responsibility is to do as much as we can, within the parameters He has set for us. If I understand your initial post correctly:

No, God didn't need you to stand up for yourself. He expected you to do so, and He may have been holding off on certain actions until you stood up for yourself.

Look at Jonah. God didn't need Jonah, but He chose Him. Jonah chose to ignore the call, and God had to push him to the point where he accepted it. Had Jonah refused more and more and more, it may have been that God would say, "fine, I"ll get someone else." We miss opportunities when we don't do everything we can, and God may hold off on certain actions until we act for ourselves, but He doesn't need us to do anything. He likes to give us the opportunities, so we can grow.
