Should churches examine doctrines they don't presently endorse?

Should the leadership of a church allow honest discussion of doctrines and beliefs that differ from their official doctrine? Or should it be understood that a church exists to teach it's own beliefs, not to examine and consider other doctrines?

I think they should. But then I'm weird like that.

Classes on what 'your' church believes/teaches .. IMO also include what other denominations believe/teach
I would not think it to be a Sunday morning topic...

Ahh....maybe?
I think the pastor and elders have to judge what their congregation can handle. If it causes strife it can cause a split in the church. It's probably better for those who do not agree to attend somewhere that agrees with them, not the other way around.

I <LIKE> this simply because much of church "doctrine" has little to do with belief in Christ, anyway.

I hope it is clear that 'doctrines' doesn't include any and all doctrine about salvation itself. I think we all agree a church exists to teach that truth, not to examine other ways to salvation. So, if that's what you meant, I would tend to agree with Deborah.

so no debates on theistic evo versus creationism. oec, yec? gap theory, what is a messiac jew and why follow that etc.

My pastor would sit down with you and discuss any doctrine you would like.
He would give you the time over and over again.
That's one of the reasons I go to my church.

It's one thing to discuss with your pastor/s, elders, those mature in the Lord. It's another thing to bring up some things in groups where there are young Christians who can get confused/disheartened or old folks set in their ways.

Sounds like you have a good pastor. :)

I agree with that. I do have an elder that has a masters th.d and likes talking about that.

Tomorrow is church again.
I hope you are going to one.
I hope everyone who reads this is going to one.
I hope non'churchers will just get up in the morning and "go", and see what happens.
Pray for God's blessings and let him surprise you.

Does it make any difference about what we believe a church should discuss about what it's beliefs are?

What do you mean by "go to Church".

Is that "biblical"?
