My dad had one of these for a second vehicle he always kept 2 cars and used one for work and and the expensive one in the garage. And I remember that VW bus where your knees are used to slow you down on impact. I also remember when I was into the hippie bag, how people took and painted them with flowers. Those suckers along with the Beetles could run though, the heat inside them in the early ones was non existent, I mean hey them engines were air cooled.

we have a few those still here, cant go faster then 45mph and well air cooled is great for the desert but crappy for florida. the heat here is taken by the oil and that shortens the life of it. never mind the generator brush issue.

the thing and the super thing? those were so light in engine power that one could use on the 65 hp engine a pull rope to start that.

I miss my 68'. Sold it to a young kid who cracked the block and then called me back to ask help..... told him I didn't know what to say. I rebuilt it all and kept it running....he obviously ran it hot. Inexperienced kids wanting a Vdub....... I think I had to change the head cover gaskets every time I traveled from Eugene to Ptown... Funny too, I went from a 280z to a vw bus..... talk about hitting the reverse thrusters!
