most of these will be from google earth. so to start, I will also be using old hotels and apartments that date back nearly a century and some edifice. first the oldest home in the county that still stands. the henry t Gifford home that is used to help vets. it has not changed much.View attachment 6244

now the other part of that home that is also part of it. viewed from the road to the west. both are rather worn down in this image but aren't this way today. this home is the start of the route I like. it also used by a Christian ministry called breathe of heaven. I know the people that started that. pray for the husband. the man Henry Gifford is where Gifford is named after though he never settled near that in fact the home is about where it also has been. Gifford was responsible for the first post office of vero and store. there is some conflicting accounts to that on the maps but nothing has said much otherwise. He also had both in his home and would met people in the front yard and deliver the mail to them and sell. if you want more on this I will have to dig. I also know that his daughter sarah, is the reason why vero is called that. more to follow.View attachment 6245 View attachment 6245

this was a hotel at first then apartments and now lies rotting. it is a bit worse then in the image. it was sold recently and hopefully it will see the fate of its sisters that were twins. current as of 2011 . it is fully named wetmore waverly's pen and flora. my wifes uncle lived in this place right after ww2. it also had the anchor of the Bismarck in front of it. im not sure if it was THE Bismarck or not just that is what is passed around.View attachment 6246

families that are descendents of these homes are still in vero or lived in vero for some time. of note the sextons, which I will get to later.

I cant compare to philly but I will say this florida as a colony was way older then pa and we took the older Spanish style home/ciestas? in the early 1900's most homes that are pricey were of this style. a few remain. I shall post those.

one of the older homes, built in the late 1800's as a home( one shown but its two the other is the to left) that is the family from oslo, Norway that are called the Helseths. they came here and started a pineapple grove. just to the north of the homes is the office, processing plant from that time hidden in the trees. its now sold and is used as home. I cant show that. the barn for that still stands. when I work this route( the north end of the street is on the city grid) I will snap some shots with a decent phone and post.View attachment 6253

the church i grew up in owns it...we'd do services there every now and then.
I can do some church stuff here. nothing back that far. the oldest would be the late 1800's now then if I throw in the older original Brevard county stuff since that did include where I live then buildings from that area would count and Titusville would be the oldest as that is older then where I live.

I don't know *why* this was on google, but that's my parents' house (they let me live here, lol). 1840s...there's lots of old houses left over 'round here, thank goodness (in some southern areas, they're mostly gone :-( )

Victorian home. a few here. if Gifford wasn't so skittish about what I do and so forth. I could take a lot of photos of the homes that are old, and some are sad but well if you are familiar with cracker homes. It Is interesting. I can also post cracker homes from other places. Gifford also has the shot gun homes as well.

I was bout to say I didn think cali had Victorian homes. you live in south Carolina.

yeah...'round here, the big problem was neglect, following the civil war and again during and for a time after the depression. that and some hippies burned down one or two of the old houses back in the 60s and 70s.
