So Jesus says John is greater than a prophet, and the least in the kingdom is greater than him. Thats a powerful statement every Christian should be humbling themselves.

Then Jesus says if anyone causes one of these little ones to stumble, they will be called least in the kingdom.

So how does that work?. The one who causes one to stumble is greater than John and a prophet.

I dont get it. If anyone decieves the sheep they are greater than John.

Or is it something to do with John being the last prophet of old.

I believe it is based on the fact that John did not live under the New Covenant, did not have the indwelling Holy Spirit, was not immersed in the name of Yeshua and did not have Messiah in him. John was the greatest man ever born to a woman (Messiah excluded) up until Yeshua's day. Afterwards, all men who receive Yeshua as Master and Savior and who are part of his Body are considered greater than John.

In bible study you should post the scriptures.

why. I just said what Jesus said. Dont people trust me or something. I dont even have a bible so I dont know the scripture verse, I just know it all in my head from memory.

I may have not said all who were born from woman John is the greatest, but I dont need to because all are born from woman, except Adam and Eve. Im sure people know that.

These questions are just thoughts from memory.

I am sorry but both of the first two posts have drawn verses out of context. Dan, I'm not going to answer this just yet but instead I'm going to ask you to go back and try one more read, not of the verse but also of the chapter to pick up the context.

Yea I got the context way mixed up. Dont trust me folks. Ilove was right. I stand here humbled in shame as a fool. I need a new bible.

Anyhow, I will find the verses im refering to.

But I am confident there is scripture that says whoever done a negative would be called least in the kingdom, and the least is greater than John. Something like that.

I don't think He's using scriptures.
No scripture saying John is greater than a prophet.
No scripture saying if you cause a little one to stumble (OFFEND KJV) your called least, but you do get the millstone around the neck.
The least though, Jesus was referring to himself in all 3 places.

So, if your not using scriptures, then should He still be required to post any even though it's called the Bible study section?

A question I have no answer for, Neither can I answer Kiwidan, because I don't know what the Heck He is rambling on about.

Everyone have a blessed day.

What a fool. What a hypocrite. All those times I have accused others of false and misleading biblical information and I just done it myself.

I thank the Most High for Christ, and Christ for forgivness. I must repent.

I was just a eye plank hypocrite.

It says those that preach, teach but don't do, are called least. Comb through Mat 18 see if that is what your refering to.

I won't delete this thread, kiwidan, for I see the value in it.

You don't have a bible, and you are going on memory. As you've considered some of scripture, you came upon a question, and you have asked our help with an answer.

You're in the right forum, with interesting questions. Let's continue!

Matthew 5:19
Matthew 11:11

I think this is what I originally was thinking.

Ok. Here is how this Works. Jesus said the Holy Spirit will bring to remembrance things He said. At times, you might have some scriptures come up in your head. You start thinking about them, and you start thinking does this mean that? Does this mean that?
So you go through this questioning in your head.

Many times something will just come up to me, I'll think about it, and think.............. Wow, if this scripture really means this, that changes some things.

The Holy Spirit takes things and brings them to us those things we heard.

The next step:
GO LOOK IT UP!!!

To my disappointment what I thought in my head, I can't really get the scripture to say that. However, it puts to rest having those thoughts again, and I learned more.

Other times, it's right on and I see something I never saw before.

don't worry about, Read over what you thought it might mean, if the scriptures don't clear it up, then post them and ask. Not an issue, we all go through the Holy Spirit teaching us and bring the Word to our memory. That is a good thing, not a bad thing.

It was matthew 5:19 and matthew 11:11 I was meant to bring up.

I think it maybe still valid my point. It does say John is greater, and it does say whoever is least in the kingdom is greater than he, and it does say whoever breaks the least commandment will be called least in the kingdom, thus making commandment breaker greater than John.

Matthew 5:19
19 Whoever then annuls one of the least of these commandments, and teaches"others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever "]keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. (NASB)

Matthew 11:11
11 Truly I say to you, among those born of women there has not arisen anyone greater than John the Baptist! Yet the one who is "least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. (NASB)

Dan,
Please, I was operating from the wrong end of the spectrum and stand in need of your forgiveness. Had I realized you did not have a Bible I should have posted the chapters for your edification along with my take on the context. I am truly sorry. I posted and went off line to colorize a photo for a friend and just took a break to look in here.

There are a number of on Line Bibles but I have always found it best to download e-Sword at www.e-sword.net. They offer over two dozen free translations and several years back I spent 20 American and purchase a digital copy of the NASB for my e-Sword.

Okay Dan, AD posted the verses and I will try to help, if you're not upset with me for being ignorant. This verse has a good deal to do with Jesus' cousin, John the Baptist but not in the relation many, not of the Christian faith, try to use it. No, John will be one of the greatest in Heaven for he taught the Gospel, right up until King Herod cut his head off. That and in the context of this chapter has, not much, to do with the other.

Matthew 11:11

Most and almost all of the church people, the people on the Membership Role are what I describe as Pew Whales. They are working their way into Heaven by attending service, some of them, three or more times a week so they can feel important when nothing, as demonstrated by this verse, can be further from the truth.

Here we find that you can, quite likely, be counted even greater than John. I'd be willing to bet you have run across at least one Christian that could not control him or herself to be humble, maybe one real recently. Any way, as great a man of God as John was he can be exceeded in Heaven if we measure standing as important.

If, however, you try to convince others of how humble you are, you have become as an empty sounding brass, no real, useful, content contained within. This verse is one i wish I could tell somebody I had been able to conquer and incorporate into my life so I never failed at it but if I said that I would add one more instance of lying against me.

To be greater than John in Heaven one must be very meek without being weak and that is a feat we all must strive for. I hope my ramblings help some and I hope you download a copy of e-Sword and add a copy of the free ASV to the program. God bless.
