I'd never talk about this around people who really know me, but I just added it up, counting my gifts to the kids, my sister, my nephew and the $300 I gave my nephew to set things up for my sister's return from the hospital (Oh, and the $100 I gave for a family my church sponsored for Christmas - a single mom with two girls who had a stroke) - I have spent $900 this year. Actually, $927.

This is more than in the last few years, but less than in the early 2000's when my Christmas bonus ran $1500 to $5500.

But, it feels good. I'm sitting here alone in the house doing laundry (well, listening to machines do the laundry, really) and thinking back on what has been a fairly good year. My job is changing so 2017 looks like a really GOOD year from here.

Yup, I started thinking about what I'd spent. Now I'm reflecting on why I spent it, what the last year has been like - and what the next year can be.

I don't know how much we spent. I buy stuff I need and a few things I want and the wife holds them and gives me then on Christmas. I do the same. We bought a big screen tv this year. It was on sale. A nice TV for around 500. We always give the kids money too. I hate shopping.

My wife and I tend to review all our giving and services we gave at our anniversary each year. (Including Christmas)

We are God's team... this year we are falling behind because of extenuating circumstances of moving twice.
But we think next year's will trump earlier years.

My wife is retired and I retire next June. So there's that for us. Everything is paid for. So a limited income is doable.

I've given up counting the cost. My family call me grumpy wallet.
I get to the till and may chin hits the floor.

In fact once when I was told the cost I apparently said "how much, are you joking? It just came out. Mouth engaged before brain processed.

Not that I mind spending money and blessing others with gifts, although I do get a bit twitchy, but I love doing that. Not getting twitchy but buying something for others. I though am not a person to concentrate blessing others with gifts for one of the year.

What gets me also is that for 2 days of the year we spend almost half a months food budget.

So now I load my amazon account with dosh, load money on gift card of the local shopping centre and say to wife, when it's gone it's gone.

So no longer called grumpy wallet and referred to as Mr Crabs

So when you pass out they take money and wiggle it under your nose like Mr Drysdale?

All I currently know is that my FIL is grumpy because my MIL won't let him play with his new meat grinder. He wants to make some sausage and she wants to make Christmas dinner.

All the other kids get to play with their new toys...
