The whole "pork" wars got me to thinking about food. (OK, perhaps because it was lunch time might have got me thinking as well.)

Anyway, I was wondering about different food tastes and what foods some will and absolutely will not eat.

My family was quite poor when I was little and there was a time when we didn't have many food choices at all. But we did live in the mountains. Consequently I've eaten some things that perhaps others would not eat. Squirrel, for instance. Frog legs and quail. (yep, yep, tastes like chicken :biggrin )

I also had to eat a lot of pinto beans during that time and today I don't eat pinto beans. I also don't like peas.

The thing about peas, pinto beans, even squirrel, quail and frog legs is that I will eat them, if I have to or if it would be really impolite not to eat it.

However, there is one thing that I will not eat, not for any reason, even if the Queen of England served it to me in a State dinner and that is raw oysters. I mean come on, any food that is determined to be safe only as long as there is no "r" in the name of the month when one wants to eat it and even that is dependent upon which state one is sitting in during the "r"-less month, is to be avoided at all costs in my book. The very idea of eating raw oysters seems too much like what I scolded my children for when their fingers strayed to their noses, except the content of their noses happens to be a lot safer than raw oysters. YUK!!!

So, what is something that you won't eat for any reason, even if other folks tell you how yummy it is?

That vegetable, you know, those little green balls my wife boils.... Gad, they are so gross I've forgotten their name :biggrin

:rolling I hate 'em too.

Brussels sprouts are good with some vinegar and olive oil. :yes

I will not eat liver and onions or overcooked spinach or that green stuff you get out the can that they call spinach! :crying

There are some things we won't eat because of food prejudice. I have always had such prejudice against certain kinds of animal meat. For example, I do not wish to eat dog, cat, rabbit, squirrel, or bear.
Yet, as a guest at someone's house, I did eat rabbit, and enjoyed it. On another occasion, I tried some bear steak, and it was delicious, too.

There is no fruit or vegetable that I do not enjoy.

However, I will not eat is the innards of an animal. Regardless of what animal it comes from, I intensely dislike liver and kidney, and I am prejudiced against eating turkey brains, though they were once offered to me. However, I do like the taste of beef heart.

There was only one occasion in which I enjoyed eating liver. The woman who prepared it did so much soaking and spicing, and gave it various other treatments before cooking it with onions, that it no longer tasted like liver.

However, I would never agree to eating any kind of insect, snail, snake, or any kind of slimy, crawling thing.

ummm, I'll just take your word on that there buddy. But we really should stop saying "Br*ss*ls spr**ts" otherwise poor Jeff might have to be committed.

I used to eat liver. But, when I was pregnant I was going to make liver for Steve's supper. Pulled the raw liver out of the package in order to cook it and that what that. Haven't touched it since. I supposed if the Queen ever asks me to eat it, and only as long as it's well cooked, I might try it again.

:thumb Caroline and Padion, I'm with you on the grub/insect thing. 'Smatter of fact anything that has more than four legs is going to be pretty suspect as far as I'm concerned.

I love Brussel sprouts had some yesterday and will finish them up today. Scrambled eggs grits and spam, I will not eat.

No, I don't. It's gross when you bite into something and oil flows out.
