I have to admit guys, he's got a pretty good point too and that's coming from somebody who is deadset against abortion.
There are those who talk about how they were miserable in their sinful lifestyles....that wasn't me. I committed all the fun ones. I was as happy as a pig in mud.
But then I caught a glimpse of the wake I was leaving behind in the ship I was sailing...and I didn't like it anymore. So I went to the Source of what is good and begged.
One day this unforgiving Earth is going to get it's due reward and I'm going to die...but I am dilligently working to change my legacy from sin (which begets more sin) to righteousness... I don't think that I will succeed...but I'm going to make the effort anyway.

You know, as much as I speak out against abortion, homosexuality, and Transgender people, I honestly think that we all need to take this verse into account.

Matthew 7:5 "You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye."

Most sins people commit are known to be wrong if they consider them.
That may be true of Christians but most of the world is not Christian; most of the US really cannot even be called believers though they may think of themselves as Christian.
Not a ton of condemnation of sins they once committed.
I am sorry but I can't think of even one instance where someone who has been condemned for the sins by a believer here on this site. We are all too familiar about casting the first stone.
And you don't find affirmation on a battlefield.
I most sincerely disagree with that statement. I believe our faith is most strongly affirmed in our spiritual battle against the forces of evil in this world. I would guess many Christian martyrs might say the same.

If only we were fighting them instead of ourselves.
We tend to eat our own...
You are one of the many "smart guys" on the forum. But right now your talents are geared towards theological differences of others instead of how to convince the lost to find The Way or of how newby Christians can solidify their fragile faith.

We want a community here.
I have several communities. My theological positions are usually different than theirs...but when we come together those differences are set aside to build barracks and schools and farms for orphanages.

What's the value in winning a theological battle if you lose the man you are having it with? Everyone has value and purpose according to Paul...I tend to believe him.

And yet, you have never taken the time to know me, what I think, believe or practice but you pass judgement on me. Remember, God's gifts include more than missionairies and pastors.

Wake Forest Professor Claims Believing in God is ‘Immoral and Illogical’
That is a headline from bing.....could someone please give me a rational explanation as to why we should not be allowed to discuss and debate something as fundemental to us as this?

We do tend to pick each other apart ,I'm guilty but civilwarbuff has a point

It's why I came here.I don't discuss politics at work.while reading I got asked a deep war question.i blew it off as the dreary, monotony has been much lately. In time I will answer him.

Just because I haven't engaged you in debate doesn't mean that I haven't read your many posts in Theology forum or Political forum or some of the other forums.
I really don't like to argue.
And I am speaking about what I've seen...but I have a strong feeling that you would rather work towards some of the things that I talked about... and with more relish than trying to destroy someone else's theological position. And possibly you do all kinds of things in your home town with your church...(you haven't talked about it)

We would like this place to be another place where the rubber meets the road. A place where you can invite your wife and kids to hang out.

And of course the Wake Forest professor is an idiot. I wouldn't recommend anyone to take his classes.

I don't think I've found the peace that should be in a church on this forum yet. Well now I have through working some things on my own however, in my view it should not come to that.
The changes here in just the short time I've been a member are unlike any I've seen implemented in other forums. First , as we're allowed to speak freely, we're told that OSAS cannot be discussed. Then it becomes obvious that any allusion to that is edited and the offending member PM'd.
And we're informed it is all due not to the topic itself. But due to the offender few that make any thread discussing OSAS or its relations a lions den of conflict and verbal/written harm.
Now we have other new rules meant to quiet open discourse in order to quell those same few offenders.
The many are being contained in their freedom to post about our faith due to the few that are offenders within it.

Why not take an inventory of those who start trouble and escalate trouble in certain hot topics of their choice?
I can name a few but I won't. They're long term members by the post count and they have no inclination to speak charitably or in grace. In fact, reading their history they are adversarial to the foundation tenets of this relationship with our Lord and Savior.
And without exception those few offenders pursue the same line of attack in every thread they start in order to keep the antagonism alive. Now, when OSAS, their apparent favorite, is forbidden they're pursuing a new track of offense.
It seems the issue they have is with the eternal in God's words.
First, that which is forbidden. God's gifts are irrevocable. Which is Salvation.
Now the go-to for animus baiting and flame throwing and personal attack pejorative fans, and those who love to impart someone is not a Christian but do so within the rules that forbid outright saying so, is the opposite topic for publishing and inviting conflict to arise. Always by those same few.The topic that asks, is suffering in Hell eternal?
What can't be ignored is if someone does not go along with that which interpolates scripture in order to make their errant point, that person is targeted. Personally. And those few are the one's that put them in the cross hairs.

Here is a suggestion. Tenure should mean nothing when a minority of person(s) show a history of raising conflict and insulting Christians in threads. Some offenders have been here for years.
So what? Being a member is a privilege. It shouldn't entail entering into a battlefield. Only to find out each day one longs on that there are new rules curtailing open dialog. Arrived at apparently in an effort to either muzzle the dedicated offenders, or make their hunting easier.

Consider also how many new members arrive and make their greeting in the new member forum.
How many posts do they accrue in the midst of this chaos?
Being allowed to speak freely here, ban the minority offenders even if they've been here for a dozen years.
I can think of two right off the bat. Rather than see how the new prosecutable rules take among the majority who are decent loving people of God, why not remove the few persecutors of the word of God and those who cleave to it? Ban by IP. Though I have no doubt they'll return. But give it a shot.
A forum needs members. Members don't need devils operating in a forum.

Thank you for reading that heart felt sharing. As one who has been on the receiving end of the wicked I speak of. And by God's leading and the options here, no longer speak to. And I can tell you, that option does indeed make this site better.
Imagine the possibilities if it wasn't necessary.

God's peace and mercies surround his sheep. Amen.

and with more relish than trying to destroy someone else's theological position.
I don't recall ever doing that though I certainly am willing to stand up and contend for what I truly believe in.
And possibly you do all kinds of things in your home town with your church...(you haven't talked about it)
Actually, I don't go to church. I am a 24/7 caregiver and this is my substitute church. In fact, I believe I have learned more about God and the Bible here than I have learned in church since I was saved. Because here people challenge my beliefs, they dare me to support why I believe what I believe. It forces me to read, research, and to formulate my arguments against those challenges....it reinforces my faith.
BTW this
And of course the Wake Forest professor is an idiot. I wouldn't recommend anyone to take his classes.
is not a rational explanation as to why we should not be allowed to discuss and debate something like this.....there will be plenty of students who do listen to this professor; we should be sharp enough to counter his criticisms......

One of the reasons I like being here is the debate and discussion and that, for the most part, I am surrounded by believers; not just the members but the moderators as well. When I make a point that supports a Christian world view I am not immediately attacked by a dozen non-believing atheists as I would be at most other sites. I am surrounded by my own kind, for the most part, who understand and are supportive of a conservative Christian viewpoint. If all I wanted to do was bloody my sword I would go back to .com and have at it with the Enemy's own. We are not of the world but we are in it and we should attempt to shape it to His liking to the best of our ability....even through such a small opening as here. Maybe I should remove from my sig line my anti-abortion view.....that is, after all, highly political and regularly in current events. To not be able to openly stand against such a wrong here is beyond belief. To say I am disappointed with this direction is an understatement.
Abortion is a sin issue, not a political issue. I'm not sure how it became a political issue...

Sin is still sin. No matter whether or not you believe it is.
We do have posters ,even in our church that don't see abortion, homosexuality as sin.if there is a sinner in the church the likely hood of that is true.

I'm not suggesting we simply not teach against those in church but the irs will of not checked see to that.

This is not a response to a few members, long standing or not, and it's not caused by only a few sensitive topics. It's taken a while to get to where we're at. Many have trampled and many trampled on. OSAS discussions have been stopped, as have other topics since I've been a member. Last November, we had to shut the Current Events and Politics Forum down for about 4 weeks, because it was getting bloody around the general election in the U.S.

A big culture change over a long time required big change to turn the ship.
Yes. The great thing (and sometimes dangerous thing) is that there is something for everyone online. There are many sites I could add to your list. I've loved having you on our board. I've told you that. I'd hate to see you leave, but you should find the online community that suits you best. Everyone should.

That's why we have a zillion churches.
