My daughter asked about a story, she believes in Paul's writings, about a man that held back some of his tithes and was killed. His wife did the same and she too was killed.

I have read this but cannot find it.

I have a second question. :)

I was working on a post yesterday and saved it so it could be completed today. Now that I've done that...how do I retrieve it? :confused Where do I go to pull up saved documents? :help

about a man that held back some of his tithes and was killed

This story in not about tithing. The story is about a man and his wife who were selling some land and told everyone that they were going to give all the money to the collective "pot". Because they were trying to gain popularity by deception and they didn't take advantage of the opportunity to tell the truth, they died.

To put the story in context, the church in Jerusalem was made of the first Christians. These were people who were Jews and were thrown out of their synagogues and most likely also lost employment because of their faith. As a result, the people in this church survived at first by selling of their assets (land, houses, etc.). Later, gifts from other churches were sent to help them survive.

In 1 Corinthians 11 you have people who are dying because they are getting drunk at the Lord's supper.

Thank you for that explanation Tim. I don't believe we are to become monks, live in communes, etc. so that may well be the answer I was searching for.

Other thoughts on this subject will be appreciated.
