I saw that. Why didn't game wardens think of this before? Just put Mufasa on the payroll, lol

It's also interesting to me that the now former poachers had to "break into" the lion preserve. What exactly did they have to break through?

Anyway this gives new meaning to the old Parkay commercial, "it's not nice to fool Mother Nature"

Fencing. To keep the lions in. They had wire cutters it said.

Hey, are YOU going to tell the rhinos they can't be in there with the lions?

Not me Brother! Lol
I had a close call with a mountain lion in the Colorado Rockies one time...hiking too fast and startled him. He was mad, and I was scared...and those guys are no where near as big as African lions.

Very surprising that you saw it. Usually they see us, but we don't see them.

I take it he didn't approach you?

I rounded a bend too fast and he was right there, 15 ft in front of me on the trail. He let out that wild kingdom scream and brought a paw up, but I reacted quickly and shot him. (My unarmed camping buddy was right behind me)

Total reflexes kicked in. I prolly reacted too fast. He didn't actually come at me, just roared and made a threat with his claws...
But he was close!

15 feet is closer than I want to be, for sure! If you hadn't shot him and he really did attack you might not have been able to escape harm. And once it's got the upper paw, it ain't pretty ...

I was carrying a Rugetr 10-22 (for small gaming) and it just leaped to my shoulder. If he would've leaped at me instead of roaring, he prolly would have done me some damage. Kinda scary, lol

About 6 or 8 rounds. I had a 10 rnd mag in it and had to consciously stop myself from emptying it into him. I could see him reacting to being hit each time and went (in my mind) whoa gonna be out real quick stop...head shot. ..and did before I was totally out.
I had a big pistol too but things were happening pretty quickly...lol

22 LR is prolly the most used cartridge for mountain lions because those guys use dogs which chase the cat and tree it. If they shoot it with a large cartridge chances are high that he'll get knocked out off the tree...and tear up some expensive huntin dogs in his death throes.
So they'll shoot 'em through the lungs with a 22 and let it bleed out slow and die in the tree, and then he falls as he's dies.
