Is there anything you don't know about music!

Who was my first concert? She'll never get that, lol.

No just kidding. here's the weirdest one yet. I heard that _____________ opened for AC/DC...forget they year, but it was the ost unimaginable weirdest pairing yet, and the opening band are prolly lucky the AC/DC fans didn't attack them! Who was it? Fairly recently...

punk rock

I remember pet rocks, but not punk rock. I've been isolated. Kept in a little room, listening to "my" music for too long.

I'm actually trying to learn about Hip-Hop. There are two (count-em' two) college professors who are enabling me. One suggests that I turn my jaundiced eye toward 'Public Enemy' since the 80's, and their more recent 2004 (?) song called "Son of a Bush." She also suggests that I also look at what Kanye West and others have been doing around political organization.

The goal would be for me to be able to write an essay. A focused look at politics, race, music and maybe presidential campaigns from recent and then back in time by about 160 years or so.

So I want an old song, maybe from Minstrelsy (black face) that speaks of politics and conflict and may be tied (as closely as possible) into Conscious Hip-Hop movement and Obama. So far, the only candidate for a song is "John Brown's Baby"

Welcome to Sparrow's world in Academia. :toofunny

I need help. But I do believe that John Brown was an abolitionist. It could happen.

Believe it or not, Edward, my brain is malfunctioning. I can think of only 2 bands in recent years who opened for AC/DC, but not sure if either would be the one you're looking for in your question.

The two I thought of: The Answer .... and Anvil

How 'bout that? Missed one. Would you believe...Justin Timberlake opened for AC/DC?! Wow, that blew my mind. I think that was dangerous for Justin.

Who opened for Humble pie and Black Sabbath in 1970 in Akron Ohio. (<That was my first concert. Dad test drove a big black limo for the weekend, they took down barricades and let us pull up to the stage cuz they thought we were with the band!) Remember it like it was yesterday.

Who was that, Sparrow? Santana? ;)

Who was that, Sparrow?

Sparrow is lost in his room. No longer locked but lost none-the-less.

Back then? I didn't know how to tell the difference between a Ford and a Chevy. The only music I knew was the sound I liked and seldom (with maybe 2 exceptions - The Beatles and Jimmy Hendrix) did I ever remember the name of the band. Well, except for when my sister threatened me with her egg-beater fists of power if I didn't memorize her fav Peter Blair Denis Bernard Noone and his friends singing "Mrs Brown You've Got a Lovely Daughter," that one I do know. Maybe a couple others. Not much. Oh, yeah. Elvis too. Maybe a couple others? It's all coming back now, but I'm still in a fog. Shhhh... don't tell but maybe it was the LSD. Or the Marijuana. Or both? Sorry, am a little fuzzy around the edges from that time except for what the Lord has done. Still walking in that work even now.

Speaking of which, Yes. There is one more: Deliverance (that came later). The sound of dueling banjos.

No wonder I blanked out on that one, Edward .... Justin Timberlake ...opening for AC/DC ........ odd

Are you sure that was 1970? could it have been 1972?

I thought it was 1970 and I was 8 years old...maybe I have that mixed up? I have been looking for the exact date and can not find it...:sad

It was an outdoor concert, summertime warm and sunny...

In 1972, they played Akron .... with Edgar Winter as an opener ... I almost attended

But I can't think of 1970 concert.... and unfortunately, I just had a brain blip of Minnie Pearl's hat with the dangling price tag ..... I think the thoughts of a young Ozzie are getting to me ..gah!

That must've been it because it was Edgar Winter band. You almost went? WOW! I was there! We picked up a hitchhiker going to the concert and he shared his pimento loaf sandwiches with us. lol. :lol

Ohio is only 2 states from where I live ... had free tickets ... but a relative chose to get married at the same time ..... had to do the family thing instead

Ah, sorry to hear that, I mean, congratulations to them, lol. ;)

Who was Led Zeppelins tour partners and opening act on their first United States tour?

The things we do for relatives............ that marriage lasted maybe 10 years, oh well

Let's see ......... the tour partners originally were Vanilla Fudge, who lasted through the entire tour ............. Iron Butterfly, who stayed only while on the west coast (I believe) .......... and there was also good ol' Country Joe & the Fish, who decided while on the West Coast leg of the tour that their music didn't really blend with the others

Vanilla Fudge is what I was looking for.

Here's one I bet you don't know. What band was at Woodstock (1969) and went on to settle in good ole Ft. Collins Colorado and play in the pubs up there? (I know this because my BIL's were drinking buddies with them when we all lived up there!

Oh, my goodness...I know this one. My brain is definitely malfunctioning. I simple cannot recall.

I don't think I could even provide the list of musicians who have homes in Colorado at this point in time. The jam sessions, when various ones would meet up in one home (whether owned or rented by one of them), were quite fascinating & most enjoyable.

I surrender. What band is it?

The Band! Remember The Weight? That's the guys.

I truly could not retrieve the name from the ol' file cabinets in my head. Thanks, Edward !

Good night to you!
