Global warming or climate change is one of the biggest lies of the enemy of all time.

"Global warming" is a term that's in process of being shied away from. That term is being ditched because in some areas things are cooling while other areas are warming. Therefore, to be less commited to one particular idea, to take a broader stance so-to-speak the term that is being adopted is "Climate change". It's a "safer" term.

You are correct PotLuck - thank you for point that out. I understand the term global warming to mean climate change - but some do focus only on the 'warm' part.

I didn't mean to correct anyone nor do I mean to imply that anyone needed corrected, (Am I digging a hole here? ) but rather to point out the move toward another term that's easier to defend since it's more all-inclusive. Climate change emcompasses any change what-so-ever whether warming or cooling is involved in any particular area.

Thing is when the term climate change is used today people automatically think global warming since it began under that term and that may not be the case. Climate change means just that, any change from what scientists feel is normal no matter what it is. Like I said, it's an easier stance/term to defend. And I find the move in itself to another term quite interesting.

Golfjack,

Why worship the Creator when it is so much easier and politically correct to worship the creation instead? 8-)

<sarcasm intended>

We are commanded, albeit indirectly, to be our brother's keeper. We need to get that right. God will provide the "hospitalities", providing we do the right thing.

2 Chr 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
2 Chr 7:15 Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attent unto the prayer that is made in this place.

Either that or this:

Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

While clearly there are those who desire to "worship the creation" - that is not reason to throw the baby out with the bath water, and forget that we, as Christians, have a responsibility to be caretakers for the earth (Gen 1-2).

We have dominion over the earth - not to destroy it, but to sustain it - to be good stewards of the earth. Just as God has redeemend us, He will redeem His creation as well. Romans speaks how the earth 'groans'.

Al Gore a good stewart.

Yeah right!

.

QUESTION: Who in 1997 championed the privatisation of California's National Oil Reserve, and the subsequent drilling by Occidental that resulted in serious environmental damage, destruction to a sacred Indian burial ground and a windfall for his family trust's Occidental stocks? (Occidental also put a pipeline through the Colombian rain forest.)

ANSWER: Al Gore, as US Vice President

I did not say that Al Gore was a good "steward" - rather I said that is OUR responsibility!

Perhaps the focus should be on what our responsibility is in relation to creation?!?

I agree, which is why I am confused as to why you didn't address the rest of my post. :-? I'm not against the environment at all, but shouldn't replace charity.

I thoguht it spoke for itself, and that it did not need to be addressed, but I will if you would like :biggrin

They call this a consensus?

"Only an insignificant fraction of scientists deny the global warming crisis. The time for debate is over. The science is settled."

So said Al Gore ... in 1992. Amazingly, he made his claims despite much evidence of their falsity. A Gallup poll at the time reported that 53% of scientists actively involved in global climate research did not believe global warming had occurred; 30% weren't sure; and only 17% believed global warming had begun. Even a Greenpeace poll showed 47% of climatologists didn't think a runaway greenhouse effect was imminent; only 36% thought it possible and a mere 13% thought it probable.

A great many scientists, without doubt, are four-square in their support of the IPCC. A great many others are not. A petition organized by the Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine between 1999 and 2001 claimed some 17,800 scientists in opposition to the Kyoto Protocol. A more recent indicator comes from the U.S.-based National Registry of Environmental Professionals, an accrediting organization whose 12,000 environmental practitioners have standing with U.S. government agencies such as the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy. In a November, 2006, survey of its members, it found that only 59% think human activities are largely responsible for the warming that has occurred, and only 39% make their priority the curbing of carbon emissions. And 71% believe the increase in hurricanes is likely natural, not easily attributed to human activities.

Research Review of Global Warming Evidence

Be sure to read the

Below is an eight page review of information on the subject of "global warming," and a petition in the form of a reply card. Please consider these materials carefully.

The United States is very close to adopting an international agreement that would ration the use of energy and of technologies that depend upon coal, oil, and natural gas and some other organic compounds.

This treaty is, in our opinion, based upon flawed ideas. Research data on climate change do not show that human use of hydrocarbons is harmful. To the contrary, there is good evidence that increased atmospheric carbon dioxide is environmentally helpful.

The proposed agreement would have very negative effects upon the technology of nations throughout the world, especially those that are currently attempting to lift from poverty and provide opportunities to the over 4 billion people in technologically underdeveloped countries.

It is especially important for America to hear from its citizens who have the training necessary to evaluate the relevant data and offer sound advice.

We urge you to sign and return the petition card. If you would like more cards for use by your colleagues, these will be sent.

Alarmist global warming claims melt under scientific scrutiny

June 30, 2007
BY JAMES M. TAYLOR

In his new book, The Assault on Reason, Al Gore pleads, "We must stop tolerating the rejection and distortion of science. We must insist on an end to the cynical use of pseudo-studies known to be false for the purpose of intentionally clouding the public's ability to discern the truth." Gore repeatedly asks that science and reason displace cynical political posturing as the central focus of public discourse.
If Gore really means what he writes, he has an opportunity to make a difference by leading by example on the issue of global warming.

A cooperative and productive discussion of global warming must be open and honest regarding the science. Global warming threats ought to be studied and mitigated, and they should not be deliberately exaggerated as a means of building support for a desired political position.

Many of the assertions Gore makes in his movie, ''An Inconvenient Truth,'' have been refuted by science, both before and after he made them. Gore can show sincerity in his plea for scientific honesty by publicly acknowledging where science has rebutted his claims.

For example, Gore claims that Himalayan glaciers are shrinking and global warming is to blame. Yet the September 2006 issue of the American Meteorological Society's Journal of Climate reported, "Glaciers are growing in the Himalayan Mountains, confounding global warming alarmists who recently claimed the glaciers were shrinking and that global warming was to blame."

Gore claims the snowcap atop Africa's Mt. Kilimanjaro is shrinking and that global warming is to blame. Yet according to the November 23, 2003, issue of Nature magazine, "Although it's tempting to blame the ice loss on global warming, researchers think that deforestation of the mountain's foothills is the more likely culprit. Without the forests' humidity, previously moisture-laden winds blew dry. No longer replenished with water, the ice is evaporating in the strong equatorial sunshine."

Gore claims global warming is causing more tornadoes. Yet the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change stated in February that there has been no scientific link established between global warming and tornadoes.

Gore claims global warming is causing more frequent and severe hurricanes. However, hurricane expert Chris Landsea published a study on May 1 documenting that hurricane activity is no higher now than in decades past. Hurricane expert William Gray reported just a few days earlier, on April 27, that the number of major hurricanes making landfall on the U.S. Atlantic coast has declined in the past 40 years. Hurricane scientists reported in the April 18 Geophysical Research Letters that global warming enhances wind shear, which will prevent a significant increase in future hurricane activity.

Gore claims global warming is causing an expansion of African deserts. However, the Sept. 16, 2002, issue of New Scientist reports, "Africa's deserts are in 'spectacular' retreat . . . making farming viable again in what were some of the most arid parts of Africa."

Gore argues Greenland is in rapid meltdown, and that this threatens to raise sea levels by 20 feet. But according to a 2005 study in the Journal of Glaciology, "the Greenland ice sheet is thinning at the margins and growing inland, with a small overall mass gain." In late 2006, researchers at the Danish Meteorological Institute reported that the past two decades were the coldest for Greenland since the 1910s.

Gore claims the Antarctic ice sheet is melting because of global warming. Yet the Jan. 14, 2002, issue of Nature magazine reported Antarctica as a whole has been dramatically cooling for decades. More recently, scientists reported in the September 2006 issue of the British journal Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society Series A: Mathematical, Physical, and Engineering Sciences, that satellite measurements of the Antarctic ice sheet showed significant growth between 1992 and 2003. And the U.N. Climate Change panel reported in February 2007 that Antarctica is unlikely to lose any ice mass during the remainder of the century.

Each of these cases provides an opportunity for Gore to lead by example in his call for an end to the distortion of science. Will he rise to the occasion? Only time will tell.

Buenos Aires Gets First Snow Since 1918
By BILL CORMIER, Associated Press Writer

Monday, July 9, 2007

(07-09) 19:35 PDT BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) --

globalwarminginbuenosaipn5.jpg

Thousands of Argentines cheered and threw snowballs in the streets of Buenos Aires on Monday as the capital's first major snowfall since 1918 spread a thin white mantle across the region.

Wet snow fell for hours in the Argentine capital, accumulating in a mushy but thin white layer late Monday, after freezing air from Antarctica collided with a moisture-laden low pressure system that blanketed higher elevations in western and central Argentina with snow.

"Despite all my years, this is the first time I've ever seen in snow in Buenos Aires," said Juana Benitez, an 82-year-old who joined children celebrating in the streets.

Argentina's National Weather Service said it was the first major snow in Buenos Aires since June 22, 1918, though sleet or freezing rain have been periodically reported in decades since.

One man stripped to his shorts to welcome the snow. Children scraped snow off cars and threw snowballs. Motorists honked horns, some with small snowmen on their hoods. Some fender benders were reported on slick suburban streets.

The storm struck on Argentina's Independence Day holiday, adding to a festive air and prompting radio stations to play an old tango song inspired by the 1918 snowfall, "What a night!"

"This is the kind of weather phenomenon that comes along every 100 years," forecaster Hector Ciappesoni told La Nacion newspaper. "It is very difficult to predict."

The snow followed a bitter cold snap in late May that saw subfreezing temperatures, the coldest in 40 years in Buenos Aires. That cold wave contributed to an energy crisis and 23 deaths from exposure.

Two more exposure deaths were reported on Monday.

BBC receive 150 complaints over use of foul language during Live Earth

Last updated at 15:32pm on 10th July 2007

Almost 150 people complained about the use of foul language during the Wembley Live Earth concert.

Phil Collins kicked off the swearing at around 2pm while adapting the lyrics to a Genesis song, causing guest presenter, Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles, to apologise for his "potty mouth".

US comedian Chris Rock shocked viewers when he yelled "motherf*****" during the concert, organised by former US vice president Al Gore. Jonathan Ross, hosting the event on the BBC, was forced to apologise.

After the watershed, Madonna performed her headline act shouting: "If you want to save the planet I want you to start jumping up and down. Come on motherf******."

There have been 149 complaints, 134 to the BBC and another 15 to media watchdog Ofcom.

A BBC spokeswoman said: "It was a live broadcast with no delay so we did all we could to remind the artists that they were going on live on TV and to refrain from swearing.

"When any of them did get carried away we pulled away from it immediately and apologised."

The bad language prompted a number of angry postings on BBC messageboards.

One viewer wrote: "Why did the BBC transmit this during daytime TV when many children will be watching? Why hasn't an apology been immediately forthcoming?" Another said: "It was disgusting behaviour."

Other comments included: "It was pretty bad at that time of day" and "There is a line to be drawn".

The show was a TV flop, drawing less than a third of the audience who tuned in last week for the Concert for Diana. Live Earth peaked with 4.5 million viewers in Britain, compared with 14.8 million for the Diana concert.

But the it prompted an upturn in sales of Madonna's music, retailers said today. The pop queen's headline act was followed by increased customer demand, according to Tesco and HMV.

Tesco said its combined download and in-store sales of Madonna's back catalogue albums increased by 420 per cent on the previous week.

The strongest demand was for her greatest hits collections and her last album Confessions on a Dancefloor.

US band Foo Fighters, which preceded Madonna on the London stage, also enjoyed a sales lift.

Sales of Foo Fighters music rose 60 per cent on the previous week, Tesco said.

HMV said sales of Madonna's Immaculate Collection album had more than doubled at its stores yesterday compared to the previous Sunday.

Sales of her downloads at hmvdigital.com also showed a "big increase", a spokesman for the retailer said.

Foo Fighters' In Your Honour saw sales rise by nearly 10 times at HMV compared to the previous Sunday.

Tesco music buyer Judge Raman said: "Huge global charity concerts such as Live 8 and Live Earth are worthy because they help deserving causes but they can also rekindle the careers of artists performing at the event."

HMV said Madonna's Hey You track, inspired by the Live Earth climate change campaign, was also selling well.

Two years ago, Live 8 drew a peak television audience of 9.6million while Live Aid notched 10million in 1985.

The BBC blamed the poor figures on Saturday's good weather and said its Wimbledon tennis coverage had drawn away afternoon viewers.

Critics said however that the public had simply snubbed what they saw as a hypocritical event.

Musicians including Bob Geldof, Roger Daltrey and the Pet Shop Boys pointed out that a concert highlighting climate change had itself generated huge carbon emissions.

Performers were criticised for flying to concerts that were staged simultaneously on seven continents.

The mounds of rubbish left by the 65,000 concert-goers at Wembley further tarnished the event's green credentials.

Organisers claimed most of the waste would be sorted and recycled but the Daily Mail saw little evidence of that taking place.

The Alliance for Climate Protection event was organised by Al Gore, the former U.S. vice-president and environmental campaigner.

Other events were held in New Jersey, Tokyo, Hamburg, Sydney, Johannesburg, Shanghai and elsewhere.

•David Cameron was a guest of Madonna for a private dinner at her £7million London home, it has emerged.

The Tory leader and his wife Samantha were entertained by the singer and her film director husband Guy Ritchie, last month.

Oh, I knew this was coming. If more "artists" were actually educated on matters, they would have not participated. I saw many who performed did so for self-promotional reasons... all except for the group that performed for the penguins in Antarctica.

I was a bit disappointed to see some of the secular artists I do like, performing, right here in my home state too. Let me tell you a story...

In the mid seventies, James Taylor did a huge concert in Central Park, NYC run TOTALLY on Solar energy! It worked well enough that Jefferson Starship did the same thing at their Central Park concert.

In 1980, we attended a No Nukes Rally and concert down by Battery Park, NYC. Same thing people, 100% run on Solar energy.

No use in these self serving politicians to talk if they can't walk the walk also.

All this crap will lead to is more legislation; you can't do this or that any longer... NOW they want to ban bottled water in many cities because the bottles wind up in the landfills!!! Well, get tougher with the recycling laws already on the books!!!

This is bull ... I say we nuke the legislators! :robot: :robot:

I wonder WHO is 'eating it up'. Those that are truly commited to a green-lifestyle recognize this even for what it was -a PR stunt.

THe only ones eating it up are those who think it is 'chic' to be 'green' or see it as the latest 'fad'.

I would say 'never rally around a policitican' period - they are only doing it for their own self-interest.
