For years I thought everybody knew (like me) that Jesus wasn't God because he himself made it clear that he wasn't, but more recently I've discovered that a lot of people think he WAS God!
Why don't they believe him?

Jesus said - "I am going to the Father, for my Father is greater than I" (John 14:28 )
Jesus said -"Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone" (Luke 18:19)
Jesus said - "Only God knows when Judgment Day will be, I don't know myself" (Mark 13:32)
Jesus said - "I say nothing of my own accord, i only say what my father tells me to say.." (John 12:49)
"My teaching is not my own. It comes from him who sent me" (John 7:17)
"Father, into your hands I commit my spirit." (Luke 23:46)

"I am going to my Father and your Father, my God and your God" (John 20:17)

While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, “What do you think about the Messiah? Whose son is he?”

The Son of David.

He said to them, “How is it then that David, speaking by the Spirit, calls him ‘Lord’?

David calls the Messiah is Lord. David said "The Lord said to my Lord".

The woman said, “I know that Messiah” (called Christ) “is coming. When he comes, he will explain everything to us.” Then Jesus declared, “I, the one speaking to you, I am he.”

Jesus says he is the Messiah. David calls the Messiah his Lord. A King calls the Messiah his Lord. A King.

Why would a King say this if they are King?. A King doesn't call themselves "my Lord"

Psalm 110:1

Jesus is Lord of Lords and King of Kings.

Not was God, but rather, He is God.

Jesus Himself, as well as His Apostles, teach us Jesus is the Lord. The Lord God, YHWH, of the OLD TESTAMENT.

Confessing Him as the Lord, YHWH is how we obey the Gospel.

8 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith which we preach): 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written:

“How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace,Who bring glad tidings of good things!”
16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our report?”17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:8-16

Key Verses:

  • with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
  • if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus
  • For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
  • But they have not all obeyed the gospel.

For whoever calls on the name of the Lord, is a direct quote from Joel and refers to YHWH. (Joel 2:32)

Jesus said it this way -

54 Jesus answered, “If I honor Myself, My honor is nothing. It is My Father who honors Me, of whom you say that He is your[m] God. 55 Yet you have not known Him, but I know Him. And if I say, ‘I do not know Him,’ I shall be a liar like you; but I do know Him and keep His word.56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad.”

57 Then the Jews said to Him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?”

58 Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.

59 Then they took up stones to throw at Him; but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by. John 8:54-59

again

8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,” says the Lord, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.” Revelation 1:8

and again

12 “And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.”
Revelation 22:12-13

Peter says it this way -

Simon Peter, a bondservant and apostle of Jesus Christ,
To those who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ: 2 Peter 1:1

again

10 Of this salvation the prophets have inquired and searched carefully, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you, 11 searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ who was in them was indicating when He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow.
1 Peter 1:10-11

Peter teaches us, it was the Spirit of Christ in the Old Testament prophets.

Example:

The burden of the word of the Lord against Israel. Thus says the Lord, who stretches out the heavens, lays the foundation of the earth, and forms the spirit of man within him: Zechariah 12:1

Christ Jesus is YHWH the Lord God.

Paul -

looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, Titus 2:13

again

16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness:

God was manifested in the flesh,
Justified in the Spirit,
Seen by angels,
Preached among the Gentiles,
Believed on in the world,
Received up in glory.
1 Timothy 3:16

There is hierarchy in God. There aren't multiple gods, but God and a hierarchy that exists in God.

The Father is almighty........then the Son.........then believers.

John 14:20 On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. ~talking to Holy Spirit filled believers.

1 Corinthians 15:27-28 For he (the Father) "has put everything under his (the Son) feet". Now when it says that "everything" has been put under him (the Son), it is clear that this does not include God (the Father) himself, who put everything under Christ. When he (the Father) has done this, then the Son himself will be made subject to him (the Father) who put everything under him (the Son), so that God may be all in all.

This proves that Jesus is God and yet under the Father.

Don't forget the Holy Spirit in that hierarchy.

Jesus is God (the son), the Father is God, the Holy Spirit is God. They are all part of the Trinity which makes up the Godhead. Three-in-one.

And here we have why Trinity is important; it is possible to see that Jesus (the Son) is not the Father, and to wrongly conclude that means He is not God.

The Son is not the Father. Neither is the Holy Spirit the Father, or the Son. Yet all three are One.

Jesus often prayed to God.
But if he was God why would he pray to himself?
Jesus prayed to the Father. The only time I can ever recall Scripture recording Jesus praying to God was in Matthew 27:46 when He said, "“Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”"

Unless I'm missing others, He always prayed to the Father.

I think we also need to remember that Jesus, although "he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross." Philippians 2:6-8 ESV

John 1:14 God dwelt among us .. Jesus is the only name given us as God that we can call on by name .. YHVH is unpronounceable so you can't go there .. Emmanuel means God with us .. Jesus does what only God can do but he did it as a man .. The Word became flesh and he had to learn of God through studying scriptures, prayer and hearing God, suffering and loving .. All made possible because he is sinless God . Only God himself could score perfect on that exam .. Jesus not only practiced what he preached, but he showed us how to live towards man and God . Then he offered his righteousness as a sacrifice that we can be accepted to God on his coat tails through faith in him and his work , nothing of ourselves .. What a mighty God we serve Amen .. Jesus is the great ''I am'' the Lord God over all ..

Jesus was fully man and fully embodiment of God the Father.
John 1:1, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."
John 1:14, "And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth."

Colossians 2:9, "For in Him all the fullness of Deity dwells in bodily form."

Was Jesus God?
Do these verses ⬇️ answer this ⬆️ question? Nope.
Jesus said - "I am going to the Father, for my Father is greater than I" (John 14:28 )
Does this verse ⬇️ answer the question?
Jesus said -"Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone" (Luke 18:19)
Does this verse ⬇️ answer the question?
Jesus said - "Only God knows when Judgment Day will be, I don't know myself" (Mark 13:32)
Jesus said - "I say nothing of my own accord, i only say what my father tells me to say.." (John 12:49)
"My teaching is not my own. It comes from him who sent me" (John 7:17)
Father, into your hands I commit my spirit." (Luke 23:46)
"I am going to my Father and your Father, my God and your God" (John 20:17)

On the otherhand, does this ⬇️ verse say Who Jesus is?

And he asked them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered and said to him, “You are the Christ!
Mark 8:29 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=Mark 8:29&version=LEB

Yep. Jesus is the Christ.

So, does this verse ⬇️ say who the Christ is?

And the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring good news to you of great joy which will be for all the people: that today a Savior, who is Christ the Lord, was born for you in the city of David.
Luke 2:10-11 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=Luke 2:10-11&version=LEB

Yep, the Christ is Savior, the Lord born.

So, does this verse ⬇️ say who your Savior is?

For I am Yahweh, your God, the holy one of Israel, your savior.
Yep, your Savior is God, the Holy one born.

Just because someone is Lord doesn't mean they are God. All rulers were called Lords. So Jesus is the Messiah, King and Lord and the Son of God.

But all that still doesn't mean he is God.

An in the pslam one Lord is the lesser. The LORD said to my Lord. No capitals for second Lord.

" The only time I can ever recall Scripture recording Jesus praying to God was in Matthew 27:46when He said, "“Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”" "

And that was Jesus quoting the opening of Psalm 22 on the Cross.

Jesus is God - the Father is God - the Holy Spirit is God.

Non-Trinnies and Not-Godders just don't have a clue.
