Today we see yet another report of a school shooting. Once again it has happened in Colorado. I am sure it is just coincidence that another shooting has happened in that state, but really that is beside the point.

Where are the parents of the person who commits these awful acts? When it is a school shooting, historically it has more often then not been a student, or former student, that is responsible. Which begs the question, what kind of boundaries did this person's parents establish for them and why did they not teach them this kind of thing is never the answer?

In cases in the past the parents usually did not know anything was wrong, and were as surprised as anyone that their child was capable of this kind of thing. That is just an example of a parent not taking the time to understand their own child. It is the duty of any parent to know their child and understand what is going on in their lives. From the good to the bad, they should be involved. Then this kind of thing would not happen.

"From the good to the bad, they should be involved." sure agree
Then this kind of thing would might not or more likely would not happen
....Unless we want to give all the credit for every thing the child does good to parent lets not blame the parent for every thing the child does
wrong.

but the government er rather the anti guns types will blame the gun not the shooter.

Doesn't CO have strict gun laws?

Seems the poor kid shot himself so at least he wont do this kind a thing again.

Another thing the media fails to report is that these shooters were/are under the care of a Psychiatrist taking Psychiatric drugs..:yes

31 School shooters/school related violence committed by those under the influence of psychiatric drugs

don't you think their parents knew this..

tob

*edit: spelling

ok, I will ONLY say this, if the evil drugs did then want about these drugs that treat epilepsy that are also used for bp?

1) Depakote
2) depakene
and any that will work if that is the case we should have a ton of killers that have seizures. my dad and sister take these.

If their parents knew that then how were they able to access guns? If this were happening in my home and one of my kids had to be on some sort of medication that would affect their mood I would remove any guns from the house, if I had any.

I wonder, though, why the child was on medication, and if it was truly necessary.

Why would we not hold the parents accountable for what their child does? They should be the ones setting boundaries. Anything a child does is a reflection on the parenting, or lack thereof.

School want to put jr. on ridiln (sp) i said no way are you drugging him.... sent them to RCC school ... guess who was a very good student... Steady fair discipline with an expectation to behave.

Praise the Lord!

How old is this 'child'... 10 no 13 i doubt it. We may think we know what and where are teens are but they can be master liars. If you have 4 kids can you truly be with each one of them 24 7?

No, you can't be expected to be physically with them 24/7, but if you are diligent in training them up in the way they should go then someone even more effective is with them 24/7.

Talking teens here not little kids...... ... they have our own minds they make their our own mistakes ... Diligent training will very much better the odds.
Ever met a kid in your life who was pretty much raised in hell yet was a good kid? Most of us have.... and the opposite can also be true.

True, but that doesn't excuse their parents from their duty.

Stricter than TX, not as strict as NY.

Usually in cases like this, no laws were broken.

The woman in CT that let her son have access to her guns was stupid and she lost her life.
The Columbine kids did not get their guns from their parents, if I remember correctly.
We'll see about this one.

Even parents that are diligent and try to keep track of their children's mental and emotional state can be fooled. Children do not always tell anyone what is going on. Sometimes children with behavioral problems (even little ones) don't tell anyone what is really happening. By the time they are teens it gets even worse. Teens very often are secretive anyway and a parent can't always know.
I knew a girl in school that everyone thought was just fine. The truth was she was being molested from age 7. Even her mother didn't know, she was afraid to tell anyone. Finally, when the threat had been removed, when we were in high school, she told her mom and a couple of us friends.

Especially with boys it seems, they keep hurts inside and that hurt becomes anger. It's not like all these kids show signs of a behavioral disorder, like hurting animals, setting fires, fighting, etc. Sometimes they are the quiet ones.
