I take lots of antioxidants. I think God has worked miracles on my behalf, to make me healthy, etc., but...now that I'm healthy and all, I'm thinking+hoping that continuing on with antioxidant supplementation will keep me healthier, longer.

so...do any of you take antioxidants? what do you take? any experiences to share (good or bad, I'm genuinely curious...) ?

See, now that The Lord has willed to make me healthy and such, I'm kind of wondering...if maybe I'm overdoing things a bit. So, I'd like to hear from other people who take (or have taken) antioxidants, see what y'all have to say.

Thanks. :)

I probably take the same ones you do. Vitamin A particularly pre-A as beta-carotene, vitamin C, cholesterol, and vitamin E are all good vitamin ones. Same with the mineral selenium. Also, I drink hot tea like its going out of style with each cup supposedly 140mg. They say for tea to do any good you need 4 or more cups a day -- no problem. I'm probably about 6 and I think I'll go for a cup now. With antioxidants I imagine a person aging and rotting fast with disease just like when the sun hits Dracula he melts. Well, that's an exaggeration, but along that line.

do you think the supplements have helped you? I'm up to 20 grams vitamin C per day. I use time release, 2 equal doses of 10 grams, AM and PM. Linus Pauling took 18 grams per day, so I rounded up to 20 since I have to take a tranquilizer.

I need to get some more natural form beta carotene. You know what's odd? Unless its labeled "natural form," its probably synthetic, even health food store brands (goes for vitamin E, too). Lame. Right now, I'm taking 12mgs astaxanthin per day. I don't know if astaxanthin is all its cracked up be, but it does seem to "top off" my other supplements nicely.

The "alternative" mental health people say these sorts of supplements can help mental problems and reduce adverse effects from "standard treatment." So far...so good. I'd still like to one day be able to drop the "atypical" tranquilizer, but...in the meantime...I seem to do well w/ the Rx plus the vitamins.

My hubby needs antioxidents for the parkinsons he has.
He takes something called Jumex. 10 mg per day.
It helps to slow down the symptoms. He takes other stuff too.
He says that he does feel the difference. The neurologist tried to take him off of it once but he went back on it.

As far as the other treatments you mention above...
You know me, if you need it, take it.
I thank God there are pills to take.
That's how I feel. It was worse when there was nothing.

You're doing so well. It's so good to read your posts.

:) thanks, wondering.

Yeah, I mean...I rail against "Big Pharma," blah blah blah....Abilify is -so- much easier to tolerate than most other tranquilizers out there (for me, anyway...). Gets the job done, no twitches, tremor, heavy sedation, etc. I'm not gung ho about tranquilizers, but...since I -do- need one, I'm glad Abilify is available (especially now that its generic).

Thanks again. :)

oh, and...I've read, here and there, about antioxidants helping Parkinson's. I read that high dose coenzyme Q10 (I think...) has been studied with some good results, for some people. I've never heard of Jumex. I'll have to do some Google-ing on that one.

:)

Yes, I forgot about CoQ10 is good for nervous system. Most publicity is about the heart but my youngest son had ocular migraines and the doctor (of all people!) told him high doses of vitamin B2, CoQ10 and some amino acid I forgotten which one. He seems to have something with his nervous system and I think he needs more supplements with the strenuous cross fit he does.
