I have all three. I've twice now had severe issues where I couldn't work because I couldn't function. Healthy living helps but mostly taking an anti-depressant is what has changed my life from dysfunction to functional. I'm on Prozac and probably will for life unless some new wonder drug that "cures" me comes on the market. Not likely.

Read this woman's story and you'll see what many of us who suffer from A, P, and D experience.

I want to add to this thread any POSITIVE findings I come across. Please don't post negative things (they are easy to find as well) since such things are not helpful. They only add to the stress. https://www.webmd.com/depression/managing-the-side-effects-of-antidepressants

My side effects have all but disappeared. I have learned to live with them and it's not even clear if the meds for my depression are the cause since I have other meds I'm taking for my high blood pressure and other old age stuff. ;)

hi. im glad you found something that helps.

the newer antidepressants have made a big difference for a lot of people. the older ones...the tricyclics, in particular...are toxic and have serious adverse effects.

sorry you've been out of work because of your conditions. not fun, not fun at all. im on disability now (huge blessing) and...I don't know if there is a way into the mainstream for me.

I don't think people who haven't experienced -severe- depression understand what it entails. even the critics of psych drugs admit that the available data shows a definite effect in -severe- depression. im skeptical of a lot of what pyschiatry is selling, but i do think severe depression and some forms of psychosis are probably physically rooted. my blood pressure goes up a lot when im deeply depressed. when im given appropriate treatment, the hypertension and agitation get better.

anyway...im glad you've found effective treatment. thanks for this post.

My daughter's consultant increased her anxiety medication and she doesn't have as many severe panic attacks now. Whenshe does have one I talk quietly to her and get her to take slow deep breaths. This seems to calm her down and the attack diminishes then disappears. She is on venlafaxine for anxiety and olanzapine for paranoid scizophrenia.
Her depression has at last lifted. What helped her with that was changing her routine and the only meat she ate was chicken. I know it sounds strange but it worked. She eats lots of fruit and salad.
She doesn't have medication for depression now. Having a cat to look after and love has helped tremendously. Do you find your lovely dog helps Papa Zoom? I think having something to look forward to helps as well. All simple remedies but they seem to work. Being outdoors can be a big boost.
Carrying one of your favourite verses around and taking it out to read when you feel depressed has helped many people.
Cruel illness. I Pray that it will improve for you.
Love in Christ

I have add and bipolar, anxiety attacks are a byproduct of that small doses of caffeine seem to help I drink 2 qt of Brisk tea a day when I can afford it.

God's answer to fear, anxiety, panic attacks, worry, discouragement, bipolar, oppression, depression, or any care, situation, and problem that life may bring, is to apply the Cross to the problem. 2 Tim. 1:7, 1 Peter 5:7-11, Matthew 6:33; 11:29-30

And he said to them all, If any man will come after Me (the criteria for Discipleship), let him deny himself (not asceticism as many think, but rather that one denies one's own willpower, self-will, strength, and ability, depending totally on Christ), and take up his cross (the benefits of the Cross, looking exclusively to what Jesus did there to meet our every need) daily (this is so important, our looking to the Cross; that we must renew our Faith in what Christ has done for us, even on a daily basis, for Satan will ever try to move us away from the Cross as the Object of our Faith, which always spells disaster), and follow Me (Christ can be followed only by the Believer looking to the Cross, understanding what it accomplished, and by that means alone [Rom. 6:3-5, 11, 14; 8:1-2, 11; 1 Cor. 1:17-18, 21, 23; 2:2; Gal. 6:14; Eph. 2:13-18; Col. 2:14-15]). Luke 9:23

For whosoever will save his life shall lose it (try to live one's life outside of Christ and the Cross): but whosoever will lose his life for My sake, the same shall save it (when we place our Faith entirely in Christ and the Cross, looking exclusively to Him, we have just found "more Abundant Life" [John 10:10]) Luke 9:24

As far as trying to do something as it concerns taking up the Cross daily, we are to do nothing. In fact, it was already done at Calvary some two thousand years ago. On a daily basis, we should reinforce our Faith in Christ and what He has done for us at the Cross (Rom. 6:3-5; 8:2, Gal. 2:20-21, Col. 2:10-15). This is the "Truth" which we must learn, act upon, and continue to act upon, which guarantees the help of the Holy Spirit.

We are not wrestling against flesh and blood. Satan has been defeated through the Cross. Principalities and powers have been spoiled (Eph. 1:21-22, Col. 2:15). We are enforcing this victory through applying the Cross of Calvary to the pulling down strongholds by placing and maintain our Faith exclusively in Christ and the Finished Work at Calvary Cross where the victory was won, i.e., "The Blood of Jesus." Our source of Power is the Holy Spirit and the Word of God.

The LORD shall fight for you, and you shall hold your peace (Exodus 14:14). "In Justification, the Lord fights 'for' us, and in Sanctification, He fights 'in' us."

Two kinds of peace
1. Justifying Peace - This is Peace with God, a legal standing. Rom. 8:7; Eph. 2:14-15
2. Sanctifying Peace - This is the Peace of God in the heart. Rom. 8:6; 14:19; 15:13; Gal. 1:3

The first is the result of a legal standing. The second is the result of the Work of the Holy Spirit. The first is static, never fluctuates, the second changes almost from hour to hour. The first, every Christian has, the second, every Christian may have.

Sanctifying peace allows the Holy Spirit to deliver the Believer into the death of Christ so Christ life is manifested through the Believer (2 Cor. 4:11, Gal. 2:20-21, Romans 8:2; 13, John 14:21).

We have been given the keys of the Kingdom (Matthew 16:19). This gives us the authority to "bind" and "loose." "Binding" ties Satan's hands and stops his power to "steal, kill, and destroy," likewise, the "loosing" releases all that Jesus did at Calvary and the Resurrection. "Binding" has to do with the spirit world of darkness while "loosing" has to do with the Spirit world of Light. To "bind" means to restrict, stop, hinder, fetter, check, hold back, arrest, or put a stop to. To "loose" means to untie, unbind, unlock, liberate, release, forgive, or free.

The only way to God is through Jesus Christ (John 14:6)...the only way to Jesus Christ is by the Means of the Cross (Luke 14:27). The only way to the Cross is a denial of self (Luke 9:23). If any person tries to come any other way, Jesus says, "they are a thief and a robber" (John 10:1).

1. Jesus Christ is the source of all blessings.
2. The Cross is the means by which all blessings are given.
3. The object of our faith must be Christ and the Cross.
4. That being done, the Holy Spirit will greatly help us.

thanks, iLove.

thing about psych drugs is...at best, its a band-aid. I'm not saying that to be (too, too) critical, its just...nothing they prescribe actually "fixes" anything; the drugs suppress certain symptoms. Its sort of like...taking cough syrup 24/7, but leaving pneumonia untreated. Something like that.

Brother Swaggert has been a -huge- help to me. My friend, Verna, got me The Expositor's Study Bible. I never thought I'd be into Pentecostals, but...whoa. The Truth has a definite effect on me, let's put it that way.

Thing is...since I got saved, I've tapered off a lot of the "necessary medication," and I'm thinking of easing off what's left. God changes people. Even some unsaved people, in and of the world, get better and walk away from psychiatry. Why shouldn't I, after all?

I think I need to go back and see a doctor.
Last time I was diagnosed by the doctor I thought I could get by with councilling but I don't think it worked.

It doesn't work K.
Go to a doctor and get some medicine. There's plenty out there and they really work to get you out of these feelings of yours.

It's a real sickness; we have to think of it as we would any physical sickness. Just because it's in the mind doesn't mean it's not real.
You might not have enough serotonin which is essential for feeling well.

Go take care of it.

Most of the modern Church has regarded the "Cross" as "vain words." This is the work of Satan because the Cross always rankles him. Satan knows that the Promise 'The God of Peace shall bruise him under your feet shortly' (Romans 16:20).

The natural man ever prefers to lean upon an arm of flesh than be supported by Him Who is invisible.

Have you ever been depressed? Clinically, not talking about feeling sad.

When you're sick, do you just pray or do you also go to a doctor?
Is God willing to do miracles 24/7 or did He create a world system in which we have to live?

hi, wondering.

i don't think people who are -severely- depressed should abstain from the psych drugs if they might help (they're especially helpful in psychotic depression, btw), but they really aren't a permanent fix. Psych drugs alter brain chemistry so (hopefully...) one feels better, sleeps better, etc. The newer drugs for depression aren't addictive, but it can be difficult to stop treatment after a long time. so...psychiatric treatment is a tricksy thing. one must weigh the pros and the cons, and my experience has been that most "mental health professionals" are -not- big on informed consent.

Amen.

The force of fear emanates from the spirit of fear. That is why we don't war in the flesh! The weapons of our warfare are not carnal. We apply the Cross to the problem!

When I am sick I pray and praise the Lord. If I need to go to the doctor I go. The Anointing enables you to know and do things that you don't know. The Holy Ghost gives you an unction. Zechariah 4:6, Romans 8:2

The woman with the issue of blood dropped logic and her intellect (the flesh mindset) and received a miracle. Why? Because Faith doesn't make sense. It makes miracles. 1 Cor. 1:18-19

Emotional hurt. Our expectations are very tied into our value systems and how we affirm success
and failure. The reward and punishment cycles that keep us going every day are very real, and
out of our control, but seem to be regulated by our sub conscious.

Drugs appear to give us either emotional highs, or dull everything so over excitement does not run
away with us. It also appears that these drugs also change us, and can in effect create the very things
we are trying to be free of.

What concerns me in this whole area is people learning to understand their emotional life, and how it
is linked to who they are and their background. And key to it all, is it can be changed.

This is why CBT cognitive behavioural therapy has become the only treatment that works better than
placebos. It uses past emotional experiences to put into context ones current out of proportion responses,
and bring order to ones world. In my wider family, emotional instability has destroyed many of my cousins
lives, but those who developed emotional interrelationship skills have prospered.

It is here Jesus calls us to be real, to plug in our emotions and reality to how we live and exist. And He provides
us with the greatest healing of all, God loves us, despite our experience otherwise, from those closest to us.

One of the starkest lessons I came across in the world of anxiety, is people not realising to be scared, fearful,
careful, is a healthy response to a situation, and nothing to get worried about. But if feeling fear creates anxiety
about being fearful, it feeds on itself and freezes the sufferer. So the answer appears to be to accept the fear, and
work with the causes, to put them in perspective. This might appear to some to be obvious, but apparently
many have never learnt this.

So my biggest suggestion is to learn ones own emotional life, and then learn what is reasonable and why,
and start to learn, literally why it is reasonable to not over react to things. Jesus tells us why, we are in His
hands, and He loves us more than we can imagine.

Now I have a relative who I know needs psychiatric medication permanentely to get stability, and has tried
many times to be free of them, but every time over 40 years has failed. But I also know from my kids,
emotional knowledge and empathy is life to the human soul. And Jesus brings this by His Holy Spirit.

I hope this helps, God bless you

Peter

For those struggling with depression or anxiety, CBD is a great alternative for some people. You can purchase them in liquid, lotion or gummy bears from most health food stores.
For tea lovers, Buddah tea has a line that includes CBD.

im doing Orthomolecular, personally. Been doing it for years now. Its very high doses of common vitamins and antioxidants. seems to help. many people choose to do it w/ "standard treatment," and the alternative health people say the vitamins can also reduce the toxicity of psych drugs.
