I love cooking and experimenting with different things. Maybe we can all chat about cooking. Maybe about how we learned to cook, recipe sharing, etc.

I cooked some biscuits I experimented with. They turned out so yummy and moist. Here is the recipe:

Note, if you live in a humid area you may use less water or if you are low altitude you may need to make adjustments.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Mix dry ingredients:
2 C All Purpose (wheat) Flour
3 tsp Aluminum Free Baking Powder
1 tsp sea salt

Add 1 C Sour Cream (you can use more water and oil instead of sour cream) and 7 tsp Nutiva Butter Flavored Coconut Oil. Stir mixture.

Add small amount of water at a time (start with 1/4C). Should look like a thick biscuit dough.

Scoop into ungreased cupcake/muffin pan and cook for 10 minutes. Check to see if done. If so, enjoy!

I am a near fully qualified chef.I done a 20 week catering course then got went on to get two NZQA world recognised qualifications. But I only done 2 of the 3 certificates. I never went back to finish.

Sorry to hear you never got to finish =( I liked your post because what you did do sounds like a lot of fun! My husband's dream is to be a chef, he hasn't done culinary school or anything, but he has taught me a lot about cooking and how not to rely on recipes all the time lol

Which school would he want to go to?
Culinary Institute of America?
NY or CA?
Johnson and Wales?
Or something else?

I'm in this one....group of students in the front. It's 30 years old and unless I show you me you will probably not find me....kinda like Waldo.

He plans to skip culinary school completely because the cost, but he would love to go to any cooking school. He wants to get into the food trucking business and do that as a job plus he wants to reach out and feed the homeless.

True! Cooking is a great skill to have! It seems to be a skill that unfortunately many today don't seem to have. Also, when the world is ending, it will be up to the cooks to make successful dishes out of whatever food is left =P

sour cream in biscuits...whaaa? im a lifelong southerner, and I think you've just made my day :) .

i cannot cook all that much. maintenance in the new place...not so big on...fixing many things, lol. happens. maybe i should get to pestering so i can use that oven and bake up something delightful, like brownies or...sour cream biscuits, lol.

I like using sour cream because finding good buttermilk is hard. Even though buttermilk is different than sour cream and totally tastes better, I find sour cream gives it a similar taste so sour cream it is! Lol =P

YouTube has a lot of neat cooking channels. They have shown me how to make ice cream without an ice cream maker or blender lol.

oh, awesome. id like to make some nutella ice cream, but my kitchen is --tiny--, so the last thing i need is an appliance with limited utility.

one good thing about the south (even...the so-called new south...)...even aldi has buttermilk, lol. ok, there's is fat free which...ain't happening...but BiLo and the other main grocery stores carry full fat stuff, so...yeah. good times. :)

Glad to hear your stores have the good stuff! Some of it can be tricky to find here. I usually even have a hard tome finding heavy whipping cream, but I figured out a food co-op that has it, but it is like $6 for a tiny container. We make our own whipped cream with it on special occasions =)

Oh yes, apartments and tiny kitchens. I remember when my husband and I lived in a small studio. We usually plugged the mixer in the living room and took the prepared stuff back to the kitchen lol. Our tiny table was our prep counter. It does make for a challenge! It was a fun venture, though!

Stovetop popcorn is still the best kind!
Best snack in the world! I keep microwave popcorn as a backup though :)

I make a really good spaghetti sauce, and my electronic smoker makes it very simple to make perfect smoked chicken, salmon and ribs. Although the secret's in the brine.

Definitely cheaper to make more awesome popcorn at home. It is crazy overpriced in places like movie theaters these days.

Spaghetti sauces are so much fun to make! Many herbs that can be added. Sweet basil is probably my favorite, but my husband likes more savory like parsley and rosemary so we take turns with spaghetti sauces lol.

An electronic smoker, how interesting. I have never used one. Sounds like a fun gadget!
