I have been making, "music" since I was 16
I made my own record label, eventually I'll make it official by getting a small business license
anyways, the "band" has gone threw many names and many people (as its usually just me and friends and family lending their help to various songs (usually because I don't have enough hands and I like to record everything live)
http://www.youtube.com/user/ModestoMontaro159
(Modesto Montaro is a name i got from a random name generator and spelled Montaro differently by mistake lol, but it works)
I only talk in one song-and that is a really old one from my "neo pagan" days (I read a viking poem)
the other two are just jams-but they sound good

I do most everything on the songs (percussion. keyboards, the odd guitar and vocal) my favorite thing to do is percussion-creating cool sounds and have them mix together-sounds great in the end, awful when your putting it together lol

I have been playing drums for a long time, I also play just a little guitar, and bass. I like playing R&B type gospel and I like playing fusion and hard rock.

is R&B gospel like old school gospel stuff?
No like modern type R&B gospel, like Israel and The New Breed, or Smokey Norville, or Shekinah Glory, and Richard Smallwood, Fred Hammond, Kirk Franklin, and many, many more. But I really would not call old school gospel R&B type gospel. R&B type gospel sounds just like what you would hear on todays R&B stations only the lyrics are Christian. So there is a lot that you can do with these songs like adding funk to them and so on, and so on.

not sure what any of that is...but I am VERY out of touch with modern music lol
the newest music I know is my own lol

my first (well technically second-first full length) album should be done by the end of the summer, the first was a haphazard bunch of percussion stuff and neo pagan poems and chants, very limited copies actually exist of it
"Nova Ape" on Maniac Ape Records (soon to become a real record label) :lol

What part of the country do you live in ? And if you don't listen to other peoples music, how can you come up with different ideas, for music ? My brother does not like to play other peoples music, he is a guitar player and a fantastic writer, but his music kind of sounds the same, because he is all into himself. His melodies and rhythms sounds similar, no man is a island. I listen to everything, that is why I can play all types of music, and it gives me all types of ideas to incorporate into my own. I study other drummers like Billy Cobham, Dennis Chambers, Buddy Rich, John Bonham, you name it. I get a lot of ideas from playing Fusion, because with Fusion, Jazz, Rock, and Classical are all mixed together, so the stuff you can come up with is off this planet.

I listen to all sorts, just the sorts I listen to are usually older-for some reason, I never knew why
my music sounds like-a bunch of sounds that sounded interesting to my ears, its not hugely creative-its a melody I had in my head and I "tapped it out" (or synthed it out lol)

i live up north kind of near quebec-nowhere interesting lol

I lsten to older too, like Mahavishnu Orchestra, or Return To Forever, Brand X, Weather Report, and then I might listen to the 3 Tenors, and I might listen to Fly Leaf, on back down to the Temptations, or modern gospel. But it all starts in your head, do other people like what you come up with ? If they do you are on the right track.

Here are my drums.

Nice, and that is one nice Paiste cymbal, I love the award winning Iron Cobra. Used one at my church when I was playing for them, I am going to get a dual Cobra, right now I am using a Mapex dual, which I am tired of Later in the summer I am going to get another set of TAMA's a much better set. I might have to get another ride cymbal for my right side, because I don't like the one that I have for my right. I play open handed, but I am right handed, and the only time I use my right side ride is when I use trad grip, I have a 1980's 22" medium Zild ride on my left. I am also going to keep the Gibralter rack. And as for the cymbals I use Sabian and Zilds I like Sabians the best though, my Sabians are a AA 16" crash, a HXX" crash, a 18" studio crash, a 20 in ride, and a 18" china. The Zilds are a 22" ride, a 18" china, a 12" china, and 2 12"hi hats and I use my 3 ROTO toms and I also use a Pearl Championship Snare Drum
, 13X11 which is a $400 buck drum, and sometimes I use 2 snares, I want and will get a Sabian crash with the holes in it, my crashes are very fast, but the Sabian with the holes in it are a little bit faster. I like playing Gospel, Rock, Fusion, and R&B so cymbal accenting is very important to me.

Thanks, the one in the pic is a 22" rock ride, very heavy but nothing compared to my metal ride.

You can't go wrong with IC, I only tried a Mapex pedal once they were not bad for the price.

Later in the summer I am going to get another set of TAMA's a much better set.

What kind of budget do you have? My 4 piece kit was 1300$ CND after tax. The 14" Rack and 18" Floor Tom cost me 700$ (Custom Order) The Susperstars are great for the price plus they come with professional hardware like star cast mounting system and die cast rims.

The Starclassic performers are a bit more expensive but you will get a better sound from the all Birch shells rather then a Birch/Bass wood shell found in the Super stars.

I might have to get another ride cymbal for my right side, because I don't like the one that I have for my right. I play open handed, but I am right handed, and the only time I use my right side ride is when I use trad grip, I have a 1980's 22" medium Zild ride on my left.

Zildjian is a good brand, i love their A customs, but i prefer Paiste :twocents

I am also going to keep the Gibralter rack.

Gibraltar makes good hardware i find, if i was to get a rack it would be a Gibraltar one unless i found a good deal on a Pearl ICON.

And as for the cymbals I use Sabian and Zilds I like Sabians the best though, my Sabians are a AA 16" crash, a HXX" crash, a 18" studio crash, a 20 in ride, and a 18" china. Nice set of pies there as well as snare :thumb My snare costs too much, i spent 900$ on it and now the are very rare and can sell for 1200$ easy, but i am taking that beut to the grave with me, lol

I want and will get a Sabian crash with the holes in it, my crashes are very fast, but the Sabian with the holes in it are a little bit faster.

I just tried one of those today, they are quick, bright and pricey :lol

I like playing Gospel, Rock, Fusion, and R&B so cymbal accenting is very important to me.

Sounds good! It is always nice to have a big sound palette while playing :twocents
