I know that there was a thread on here started for cats, but I'm talking about animals in general in this one. With the exception of rats and snakes I pretty much like them all. :) My top three favorite animals are cats, dogs, and horses though. And I absolutely can't stand it when animals are abused! :mad

You know it! I was the biggest dog nerd growing up, almost to the point of that being all I cared about. I love all animals, including snakes an rodents.

Snakes and rats (I'm mostly speaking of wild ones here, not the kind that you buy in pet stores) scare me because of one thing and that's the only reason why I dislike them. Because of their bite. Sure dogs and cats can bite you too, but the difference is they are pretty tame for the most part. However I don't think that there is such thing as a tame snake or rat.

That's a reasonable fear. I just think they're kind of cool, really. I got to hold snakes during nature center classes

Well, I guess that would be cool for you, but I wouldn't want to do anything like that. That would have freaked me out big time! :eek2

By the way, speaking of animals in general, I think we had a raccoon visit us last night. I had my bedroom window open and I was listening to the thunderstorm to help me drift off to sleep, when suddenly I heard quite a bit of noise coming from the table on the patio. Raccoons might be cute, but they also can be rather nasty and a big pest around here since they like chewing up my mother's candles, and stealing objects out of our fairy gardens. If my mom didn't keep our trash can strapped down there's absolutely no doubt that they would get into the trash too. I remember when I was looking out my window late one night and I came nose to nose with one! :shock Lol! :lol It's funny to talk about now, but it wasn't then since it really scared me. We also get deer, squirrels, and even turkeys. Pretty much anything and everything under the sun. Unfortunately I think that I also smelled a skunk last night.

Genuine wild turkeys? I wish it wasn't too hot for them up here. I would love to bag a wild turkey.
Oh yes...cats. Favorite animal is a cat.

I don't think that even though we could survive on them that wild turkeys would taste the same as the kind you get from the grocery store for Thanksgiving. I heard that they would taste rather tough if you tried to eat one. And I can't tell whether or not you are being sarcastic on the cat part, because I thought you were one of those people who preferred dogs. I like them both, but I geninually like cats the best. They are so cute and cuddly as well as huggable and kissable. :kiss

Well wild meat is always going to taste different. Birds aren't that bad in general. I tell ya I've had some moose and deer meat that tasted like nothing but hair. As far as the toughness goes, you would be surprised what can be done with meat when southern cooking methods are employed.
I've always liked cats more than dogs, regardless of their practical usefulness or lack of. It could be that I was raised with them and know their language better than that of a dog, or it could be why you said, they are just so cuddly and huggable. We do have a dog. I'm still a cat man :yes

Actually, it's rather funny that you mentioned deer since my father used to be a hunter and I used to eat venison all the time as a child even though I don't remember it. I'm not a hunter personally, but I don't have a problem with it either as long as it's not trophy hunting. I mean even the deer head that we have mounted on our wall was saved after we ate the meat from it. And yep, I will always be a cat person too. :yes Although I still wish that I had a dog as well. :sad I used to have dogs all the time and I miss that. I never had a beagle though and since they are my most favorite breed of all that's the kind of dog that I want most. Beagles rock!!! :rockingIn fact that's the T-shirt that I'm wearing right now lol :lol

By the way, raccoons can tear through the screen too which is why I'm glad that none of the raccoons around here ever have. Oh and we also have coyotes and bobcats to deal with around here as well. Luckily we don't have bears around here but we used to in my old neighborhood. We also have hawks, and sometimes even bald eagles and foxes although they tend to stay down in the ravines. Oh and also my mom saw a raccoon early this morning before she went to work so maybe that might be the same one I heard last night.
