...unless the lord returns we might have some abilities to travel into space beyond solid fuel or liquid fuel engines

Maybe, but man went to the moon decades ago, and hasn't been back since. We can't afford it anymore. We have even been using Russian rockets to launch our satellites, since we can't afford to build our own.

who says America has to do it or the government? I love near the cape. space x is launching. if they work why not let them make money of that ship? you love the free market? right? its past time to allow free market to explore space. the railroad system was built and designed in England first came to America via the free market and with the government land grants it built my state the west and a lot in between. miami. florida wouldn't exist without the railroad. Henry Flagler is the father of Miami. of course there was some dirty deals with the land being taken in the west from homesteaders. but that is another topic

besides well until men learns to live peacefully together on the blue ball given to him our colonies if they are to be will be no different. warring et all

Won't happen till the Lord returns.
that is what I meant. I have a friend who is a saved Christian but also a libertarian and a trekker . I said that to him about space. if there are aliens or any planet we would likely conquer it. like it or not we as a people were conquering the new world there wasn't much of peaceful trade, the Indians shot at the Spanish here for invasion. its another time , im not pc but the reality is to the Indians they did see the white man as an invader in general not that the Indians were innocent. if we are able to move out into space and there are other races well lets not repeat the same mistake.

where I live is called the treasure cost. gold doubloons are found of our shores in wrecks and also from the atocha wrecks. the gold came from ships sailing back to spain loaded with incan gold and gold from south American mines.

No faster than light travel. We're not going anywhere.
the moon can be colonized. its not that unfeasible. mars may be as well. we once took months to travel across the ocean called atlantic in a ship so small that It can dock at my city marina. the replicas of the pinta, and Santa Maria have traveled down the coast and entered the ft pierce inlet and traveled to my marina for a historical tour. we don't have draw bridges and the dredged water way is only 25 feet deep. if man is willing to suffer for months in those. we will do it for exploration again.

until the late 1890s there was ONLY one way to go from st.Augustine to Miami, that was via steam ship. yes one could travel the roads that the Spanish and the us.army and others built but it was faster on a steam ship. there are few relics of light houses and parks that were life stations. one of those is a public beach now. the oldest light house in America that is still standing is at cape caneveral. the word caneveral is what the Spanish called it. I have maps via hyper link on this time. if interested I can post those the accuracy of the maps after the civil war is astounding.

Yes, but the new world had plenty of air, food, and other luxuries. The moon has none of these. Its really not the same.

Antarctica is far more hospitable than the moon, and man has not colonized it. Only a few intrepid scientists take turns sojourning there for a short time.

In addition, we are slowly running out of easily mined natural resources. There is a time limit to our high tech way of doing things.

well cell phones came from the concept of communications on star trek. so that is now real. don't think we can call from a radio?police and the army can do that.
see through buildings with a sensing device? yes we have that as well. bio beds are in a crude form.
visual communications like the main screen? snap chat and live chats with streaming video and two way communications? yes we have that too. I think trek has inspired a lot of things. will we have warp engines and so forth? probably not but unless the lord returns we might have some abilities to travel into space beyond solid fuel or liquid fuel engines

The design of the old flip cell phones, I'd agree with. But most of the rest of the list was already out there in conceptualizations etc. Jules Vern for example figured there would be a way to harness the energy of the sun (nuclear fusion / fission... I get the two confused).

Gyros for artificial gravity (Forbidden Planet). Etc.

Agreed.

And transporter devices...

facsimile human beings?

Uh, this will rival Harold Robbins novels about memory crystals and clones... (not recommended author btw very perverse / sick stuff... from a much younger and stupider day in what I read... {sigh})

Have an itch? Beam me up / down beam me back and the new me from the transporter memory buffer will do away with aging illness kind of like a personal system restore...

What about the soul / spirit of human beings going through a transporter?

I recall in the novel Spock Must Die author James Bliss at least brought the matter up.

Of course if what we are physically is the totality of us (as Roddenberry believed to his deathbed) then fax-man would be a-okay.

,actually there is an agreement against colonies in Antarctica and a permanent research outpost there.it's not small

either case its far, far away as a reality for us but if we don't explore and grow we will as a species die. we have benefits in space exploration already.

4000 souls in the summer, 1000 in winter.

They have to ferry in most of their supplies though. Not practical for a moon city or Martian colony.
it takes three days. I was in Afghanistan. we got supplies via truck not air. it took one or two days.
the moon is three days but we could build faster rockets to shorten that trip. launch from space and use that for space its not going to be easy but then again the trek across the ocean wasn't easy. colonies failed and men died. besides what happened to that faith in the free market. gosh the earth is out of minerals. wait isn't there a moon to mine?
