Ok... school is about to start...

Thought that I would mention something...

The cost of post-secondary education has gone absolutely nuts high.

I was looking at Aviation Universities. Most of those in attendance won't graduate and then for those who do... about half will become unemployable due to health card problems, misdemeanor and/or felony convictions, failing too many flight checks.

So for the final group who graduated clean and healthy...
They can expect a starting salary of @ $30,000 and have well over $100,000 worth of school loan debt...after being heavily recruited by the airlines looking for new pilots.

Eventually, if no one ever makes a false claim of sexual harrassment (men or women) and you get enough experience eventually a few years before forced retirement you can earn the 6-figure salary. All this whle living like a monk.

And this is the new norm... heavy school loan debt and a salary barely able to pay bills for an extremely modest lifestyle even without the debt... regardless of the field of employment you wish to go into.

Is it possible that pilot openings are too easy to fill? If pilots are in short demand, they become more valuable.
I do struggle to believe the $30,000.00 starting salary, especially in such a heavily influenced union field and with US middle income ranging from $42K and up, depending on location. That number doesn't add up.

Pilots don't start in command positions. They start out as co-pilots of cargo planes and the third or fourth guy in the cockpit of jetliners. Those guys make very little.

I found this information and have learned much. It should also be noted that most pilots don't work a 40-hour work week. They accumulate a lot of time away from home and I'm betting much of that is not on the clock.

I know what that is like having worked in field service for my company for a few years. It's not the bed of roses many people envision. When I was on the road, it wasn't for sight-seeing and vacationing. I was there to do a job and usually worked from 6:00 or 7:00 am until sometime between 6:00 and 8:00 pm. There was no time left for personal time off the job and even when off the clock, I wasn't at home so to me, it felt like I was never really off the clock.

When I took a salary position, it got worse because I was not paid overtime or for weekends. When I was at a customer's sight over a weekend or holiday my time was donated. I pushed for a change in that policy but never got any satisfaction and that was probably the most influential reason for me to get out of that part of our business and take the position I have now.
