The video is not from a Christian standpoint or really related to Christianity at all, but has some interesting thoughts.

Being caught in the world of anime and hardly paying attention to Western tv these days, I can't truly comment on this myself. I mean, aside from liking Avatar: the Last Airbender, Legend of Korra, and Friendship is Magic--which are all entertaining to kids and adults alike. Strangely, I never thought of ATLA or LoK as kid shows--but I guess that just proves the point the video is making. Kid's entertainment doesn't have to be dumbed down.

People talk about how "kids shows aren't what they used to be", and in some cases that's true. I mean, look at what Nickelodeon produces now compared to what it produced in the '90s. (Aside from ATLA and LoK.) But there is some pretty brilliant stuff out today.

A topic the video touches on is the presence of real world issues brought up in today's shows, and I suppose that brings up another challenge from a Christian perspective so far as teaching children is concerned. One that has always been present in some way, though, and personally I'm not surprised when the secular world acts like the secular world.

Before I was into anime most of the entertainment type stuff I was interested in watching was '80s and '90s children's cartoons.

When I was a kid we had Big Brother Bob Emery, Buffalo Bob and the Howdy Doody Show,
Pinky Lee, Bozo, Captain Kangaroo, and Art Linkletter.
The next generation saw The Muppets, Mr. Rogers, and Pee Wee's Big Adventures.
I don't know what came after that.

I love certain older cartoons, and many of them have their own charm, but I agree that kid's programming is better today than it has been. The biggest reason for this is probably that all television programming is better these days, with high-concept storytelling, fantastic writing, and cinematic production values that used to be unheard of. I've been very impressed with My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Gravity Falls, and Steven Universe (also Star vs. the Forces of Evil), as well as darker fare like Over the Garden Wall and Rick and Morty. Cartoons are not talking down to their audience anymore, and while I will always love Batman: the Animated Series and other 90's and 80's kid's shows, what is being offered today is standing on the shoulders of what came before and aiming higher.
