Are we born the way we are? For example, are people born homosexual? Are people born murderers and rapists?

What are your thoughts? What does the Bible say about this? What does science and the world say about this?

Homosexual probably not, rapist and murders don't unless we repent from that sinful nature we will are born to die and enter hell.

I mentioned this once in another thread a while back. When my aunt was born, she had both male and female reproductive parts. She's 70 now and spent part of her life living as a lesbian, though she's not in any relationship anymore. Before my grandma died she told my aunt that the doctor gave her a choice on which way to go and, looking back over the years, she was afraid she may have made the wrong decision and should have allowed my aunt to be a boy. Such a strange story and I wouldn't believe it myself except that it was my own family!

Hermorphodites, jojo, is what your aunt was born, and i have no clear and easy answer on that one, except that after much prayer the parents would have to decide which one they would want, boy or girl. I know that makes men playing God,but you cant just leave them with both organs as one will produce more estrogen or testerone than the other, compete. Not an easy thing to deal with. :shrug

So then I have to wonder: If my grandparents had chosen a boy, would my aunt have spent her life as an effeminate male?

Homosexual orientation is a direct result of 2 things. 1. temperament and 2. environment.

Some people are born more prone to be a homosexual but unless the child is raised in the right environment he/she will remain straight. The same is true for a child born into a homosexual environment, if the child's temperament is a certain way he/she will be gay.

When you are born you are innocent it is only later on when we learn sin and act upon it, some are just more susceptible to certain sins.

Nice question there, Nick_29 :)
Is it okay to answer, "I dunno,"? <----- that's the best I have.

I've heard of studies of men in prison who have XX chromosomes and their propensity toward crime.
I've heard of a loving God who forms us in the womb.
I've heard of people born "sexually ambiguous" and have heard of hermaphrodites.
I've heard of a God who "visits the sins of the fathers onto the sons for three generations".
I've heard of this same God who "blesses the righteous for 1,000 generations".
I've seen many mysteries in my lifetime but my favorite is: "How God can deal with me?"

My opinion? There are many things that I am not qualified to judge. It is enough for me to trust that our Father (the Creator of all) is qualified, is good, is just and loves mercy. No man can search the full mind of God but is it okay to admit this and simply reply, "I dunno?" :chin

We are told that our "secrets" will become known to all. We are admonished to do good things (and hide them) so that when the saints are revealed (when all men are "exposed") our "secrets" will be revealed to the glory of God. I guess we'll just have to wait to know these things, yes?

When I did a Bible Study about the "Sins of the Father" years ago, I came across this:
Jer 31:29-34 said:
In those days they shall say no more, The fathers have eaten a sour grape, and the children's teeth are set on edge.
But every one shall die for his own iniquity: every man that eateth the sour grape, his teeth shall be set on edge.
Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD:
But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

The Bible says we are all born sinners. Everyone will sin. That includes the sin of rape, murder, homosexuality, stealing, lying, adultery, etc.

I thought the Bible said that we are born into a sinful world or something like that. what sin has an aborted baby committed :confused

I am not talking about the unborn, I am talking about those who are allready born and old enough to make choices. ;)

ah ok gotcha ;)

I think we are "born this way". I think everyone is born with the propensity to sin of some kind or another. Then, as we get older and begin to understand lusts and urges that we weren't born to, we start joining in on them as well. I think some are born with the natural inclination to be homosexual. I think some are born with a natural inclination to be a serial killer. I think some are born with the natural inclination to have some kind of addictive hold in their lives. It is by far, more rare that someone be born with an attitude of "I should strive to be the best that I can be". And, even those with that kind of attitude will fall due to either looking at sin around them and trying it out, or through pride or superiority.

Some of these things which we are "born to be" are more acceptable than others. Most are repelled by homosexuality or drug addicts, but are impressed by the sort of ruthless pride and ambition that compels people like Donald Trump. But the truth is, all of this stuff, from shooting yourself up each day to clamoring after wealth and glory even at the expenses of one's wife (even wives) and children, will all drag us down to hell.
